The four transformations of a Jia day

Each day's stem gives four stars Hua Lu, Hua Quan, Hua Ke and Hua Ji. This part is the general version; it doesn't look at anyone's chart.

Hour by hour: the twelve double-hours

The Chinese almanac splits the day into twelve double-hours, each watched over by one of twelve day spirits. Six are on the yellow path (auspicious) and six on the black path (inauspicious). The Zi hour straddles midnight, so it appears twice. An inauspicious hour is not off-limits; it just calls for a little more care.
