Introduction
This is the question 「問化祿星所主若何？」 in the Zhu Xing Wen Da Lun (Questions and Answers on the Stars) in volume one of the Complete Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu: what does Hua Lu (the Transformation of Wealth) govern? The whole chapter is a single passage from Master Xiyi. Hua Lu is 「福德之神」, the spirit of blessing and virtue. Guarding the Body, Life or Career Palace and meeting Hua Ke and Hua Quan, it is sure to make a high minister. Met in a Minor Luck it brings money and entry into office; met in a Decade Luck, ten years of good fortune. The Quan Shu has great faith in Hua Lu: even with evil stars arriving and Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing and Hua Ji clashing and shining on it, 「亦不為害」. A woman with lucky stars gathered becomes a titled lady; with malefic stars gathered, she is ordinary.

TranslationMaster Xiyi answered: Hua Lu is the spirit of blessing and virtue. Guarding the Body, Life or Career Palace and meeting Hua Ke and Hua Quan, one is sure to hold the office of a high minister. Met in a Minor Luck, it means the joy of money coming in and of entering office. In a Decade Luck, ten years of good fortune without doubt; even with evil stars arriving and Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing and Hua Ji clashing and shining on it, it does no harm. A woman with lucky stars gathered becomes a titled lady; when the two luck periods meet it, she commands respect inside and outside the home; with malefic stars gathered, she is ordinary.

Hua Lu is 「福德之神」; The Nature of the Four Transformations opens with the same words and adds that Hua Lu belongs to earth. The passage has three main points. First, Hua Lu in the Body, Life or Career Palace meeting Hua Ke and Hua Quan means 「必作大臣之職」: the three transformations together are the highest pattern. Second, it is lucky in both the Decade and the Minor Luck. Third, and most unusual: 「惡曜來臨並羊陀火忌沖照，亦不為害」. Hua Lu's power to bless is strong enough that malefic stars and Hua Ji cannot press it down.
Hua Lu falls by the birth-year stem on one of ten main stars: Jia on Lian Zhen, Yi on Tian Ji, Bing on Tian Tong, Ding on Tai Yin, Wu on Tan Lang, Ji on Wu Qu, Geng on Tai Yang, Xin on Ju Men, Ren on Tian Liang, Gui on Po Jun. On a Xingge chart, look for the star with the Lu mark beside it. Today Hua Lu means that the area that star stands for goes smoothly and yields results; see Hua Lu. 「亦不為害」 is the Quan Shu's verdict; many later schools hold that Hua Lu and Hua Ji in the same palace mean gaining first and losing later, so the two views can be weighed together.
