Keeping a close eye on contracts and fees

As his fame grew, Verdi paid close attention to his contracts to make sure he was properly paid: Attila and Macbeth (1847) each brought him 18,000 lire, and his 1847 contracts with the publisher Ricordi were very specific about what he would receive for new works, first productions and arrangements. His Life Palace contains Lu Cun, the star of holding on to money and careful accounting. It fits his concern for his fees.

Rigoletto premieres in 1851

In March 1851 (nominal age 39), Rigoletto, written for Venice, had its premiere. It was the first of the three operas that sealed his reputation as a master of the form, followed by Il trovatore and La traviata. In the annual Four Transformations of 1851, Ju Men (Xian) takes Hua Lu (Transformation of Wealth) and enters his natal Career Palace. Hua Lu is gain, and in the Career Palace it means gains at work, which lines up with this opera arriving that year.

Twenty years remodeling Sant'Agata

In May 1848 Verdi signed a contract for land and houses at Sant'Agata in Busseto, and on 1 May 1851 he moved in. He set about remodeling it, work that took most of 1860 alone and went on for the next twenty years; through the 1860s and '70s he also bought more land and installed irrigation. His Property Palace holds Tan Lang (Li) with Hua Ji (Transformation of Obstruction). The Property Palace covers home and land, and Hua Ji marks where thought and effort go. How much he put into this estate matches that.
