Three orbits in 1962
On February 20, 1962 (nominal age 42), Glenn lifted off in Friendship 7 and circled the Earth three times, becoming the first American to orbit the Earth. On his return he became a national hero, met President Kennedy, and New York held a ticker-tape parade for him. In the annual Four Transformations of 1962, Tian Fu (De) takes Hua Ke (Transformation of Fame) and enters his natal Life Palace. Hua Ke is reputation, and in the Life Palace it means the person himself is seen, which fits his becoming a hero that year.
Source ↗Back in space at 77 in 1998
In 1995 Glenn read that the bone and muscle loss caused by spaceflight matched changes seen in ageing, and he began pushing for an older person to fly in space, namely himself. On October 29, 1998, at 77, he flew aboard Discovery as a payload specialist and served as a subject for research on ageing. In his chart, the Life Palace of the Decade Luck for nominal ages 73–82 (1993–2002) reaches the natal Friends Palace, which holds Tian Liang (Miao). Tian Liang is often read as the star of elders, and his flight can be read alongside it.

Glenn fell in love with flying after his first plane ride with his father at age eight, and built model aircraft from balsa wood kits. At New Concord High School he played center and linebacker on the varsity football team and also made the basketball and tennis teams. In his chart, the Fortune Palace holds Tan Lang (Miao). The Fortune Palace covers interests and hobbies, and Tan Lang is often read as broad interests and many talents; his taking up several sports at once outside class is worth holding next to it.
