Hua Ji from the Fortune Palace into all twelve palaces: how Flying Star readers see each line

What does Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into each palace mean, and how do you read it? Find the stem of the Fortune Palace, look up the Hua Ji star that stem produces, and see which square of the chart that star sits in. The Fortune Palace governs inner ease and relaxation, so your concern flows toward that square; if the star sits back in the Fortune Palace itself, it is called Self-Hua Ji. There are twelve landing palaces, and this page reads them from the Life Palace through to the Parents Palace. Palace-stem flying transformations belong to the Flying Star school and are not found in the Zi Wei Dou Shu Quan Shu (the Quan Shu), so everything on this page is the Flying Star school’s reading. It is about where your mind goes, not about how much fortune you have.

Hua Ji from the Fortune Palace into all twelve palaces: how Flying Star readers see each line
On this page

The Fortune Palace stem, and which star becomes Hua Ji

Palace stems are counted from the stem of your birth year: the stem of the Yin palace is set by the year stem (the Five Tigers rule, 五虎遁), and the stems then follow the order of the earthly branches until they reach the Fortune Palace. The same Fortune Palace square carries a different stem for a different birth year, so a different star turns into Hua Ji. Each of the ten stems goes with one Hua Ji star: Jia gives Tai Yang, Yi gives Tai Yin, Bing gives Lian Zhen, Ding gives Ju Men, Wu gives Tian Ji, Ji gives Wen Qu, Geng gives Tian Tong, Xin gives Wen Chang, Ren gives Wu Qu, Gui gives Tan Lang, and each star accounts for about 10%. If that star lands in an Empty Palace with no main star, the star in the palace must be Wen Chang or Wen Qu.

Across all 262,980 charts (every day and every double-hour from 1950 to 2009), a chart lands in only one place, so the chart counts of the twelve lines add up to this total; each line is between 8.1% and 8.5%, on average about one chart in twelve. About 16% of charts have an empty Fortune Palace itself; such charts are read with the main stars of the Wealth Palace, while the Hua Ji star is still flown out from the Fortune Palace stem.

What the Fortune Palace governs, and how to read Hua Ji flying in, Hua Ji clash and self-transformation

On Xingge, the Fortune Palace is read as your inner life, your interests and spiritual satisfaction: how you relax and what makes you feel it was worth it. The Flying Star school has a saying, 「祿隨忌走」 (“Lu follows Ji”): wherever the Hua Ji star flies, the concerns of the Fortune Palace, and the places where you spend effort looking after things, are in that palace. This school also has a rule for the Hua Ji clash: when Hua Ji lands in a palace, its force strikes the palace directly opposite at the same time, so each line looks at the opposite palace as well as the landing palace. The opposite palace of the Fortune Palace is the Wealth Palace, so Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Wealth Palace is a special case that clashes back onto the Fortune Palace itself. The Hua Ji clash is used only for Hua Ji that flies out; with Self-Hua Ji the Hua Ji star stays in its own palace, no clash is discussed, and it is read as thoughts in this palace that come fast and fade fast.

The same line is often read differently by different schools. Each section below gives the most common reading, and readings from other schools are marked as not adopted by Xingge.

How to read the numbers in each Fortune Palace section, and the Hua Ji flavors borrowed

The chart counts and Hua Ji star counts in each section use all the charts. The brightness of the Hua Ji star, the main stars in the same palace and the share of Empty Palaces come from a sample (one day out of every seven, with all twelve double-hours charted each time, 37,572 charts); Miao or Wang means Miao plus Wang, and Xian (Fallen) counts only the level 「陷」 (“Xian”). Xingge has no fixed way to read whether a Hua Ji star is bright or dim; what each section says about brightness is the view of some teachers and is for reference only.

The flavor of each Hua Ji star is taken from the lines Xingge’s Life Palace pages write for each Hua Ji star, reworded: Tai Yang Hua Ji shines its light on others and does not mention its own tiredness; Tian Ji Hua Ji likes to turn things over and calculate again and again; Ju Men Hua Ji swallows words back just as they reach the lips; Tan Lang Hua Ji has many desires but feels it is not good enough; Tian Tong Hua Ji looks after the mood first and puts its own needs behind; Lian Zhen Hua Ji holds strong principles and likes to compete; Tai Yin Hua Ji draws feelings in deep; Wu Qu Hua Ji is used to carrying things alone. The original lines describe people whose birth-year Hua Ji sits in the Life Palace; here they are used only to describe the texture of the concern.

Into the Life Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Life Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Life Palace is read like this in the Flying Star school: the thoughts you usually keep in your heart, and how much you care about enjoyment and ease, all come back onto you as a person, so a worry is not only a feeling but turns into a self-check of 「我是不是哪裡不夠好」 (“Is there something wrong with me?”).

Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Life Palace: why matters of the heart become matters about 「我」 (“me”)

The Fortune Palace governs interests and spiritual satisfaction, and the Life Palace is you. The stem of the Fortune Palace produces a Hua Ji star, and that star sits in the Life Palace. A scene might be: you finally have time for something you like, but first ask yourself whether this is a waste; someone makes a passing remark and you hear it as a verdict on your whole person; you did not have a good time, and blame yourself for not knowing how to relax.

The working out needs only two things: the stem of your birth year and the earthly branch where the Life Palace sits. Take someone born in a Jia year with the Life Palace in Xu (戌): the Fortune Palace is in Zi (子), its stem is Bing, and the Hua Ji star of Bing is Lian Zhen. This step is the same for every chart like this; whether Lian Zhen happens to sit in the Life Palace depends on the birth day and hour. Another view treats the Fortune Palace as the root of the life, so that Hua Ji flying into the Life Palace means everything about the root falls on yourself; Xingge does not adopt this reading.

Charts where the Life Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: ten Hua Ji stars at about 10% each

Of 262,980 charts, this line has 21,688, about 8.2%. The ten Hua Ji stars run from Tai Yang Hua Ji of the Jia stem at 2,451 charts to Ju Men Hua Ji of the Ding stem at 1,861 charts, all around 10%. In the sampled charts, only about 3.5% of these charts have an Empty Life Palace, against about 16.5% of all charts, because the Hua Ji star has to sit in the Life Palace to count; when the Life Palace has no main star, only Wen Chang and Wen Qu can become Hua Ji. The Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 53% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in about 10%. Among the charts whose Life Palace has a main star, Tai Yin is about 20% and Tai Yang about 18%, the two more common in the same palace.

For the flavor of the Hua Ji star, borrow the lines from Xingge’s Life Palace pages: Tai Yang Hua Ji always shines its light on others and does not say so when tired, which on this line becomes still worrying whether others are happy while you rest; Tian Tong Hua Ji looks after the mood and puts its needs behind, so even what you want to do is given up first; Tan Lang Hua Ji wants too much and always feels not good enough. As for brightness, Xingge has no reading; the view of some teachers is that a bright Hua Ji star turns standards into drive, while a dim one easily turns into harshness toward yourself.

After Hua Ji flies into the Life Palace it clashes the Travel Palace: keep matters of the heart apart from the scene outside

The Flying Star school’s Hua Ji clash is this: wherever Hua Ji falls, the square directly opposite is also affected. Opposite the Life Palace is the Travel Palace, which governs going out and the face you show to the world; in Xingge’s table of opposite palaces, Hua Ji in the Life Palace clashing the Travel Palace is written as being unable to loosen up outside and having many worries away from home. So some teachers add: that feeling of not being good enough is magnified in crowded settings, and you care more about how others see you.

In practice, first write 「我想要什麼」 (“what I want”) as three concrete things, rather than writing 「我應該怎樣」 (“how I should be”); when emotion arrives, ask yourself whether this is today’s mood or a judgment about your whole person; before going out, decide on one small goal you most want to reach, and you do not need to perform in everything else. This is a way to adjust your mental energy, not a way to change any fortune.

Into the Siblings Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Siblings Palace

When Fortune Palace Hua Ji lands in the Siblings Palace, the plain-language reading is: part of the concern you hold in your heart is for siblings, close peers and long-term partners, and how they are doing affects whether you feel at ease. This is the Flying Star school’s reading, and it does not judge whether your bond with siblings is good or bad.

Siblings always have a place in your heart: Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Siblings Palace

The Siblings Palace governs siblings, and also close peers and the people you partner with. When the Hua Ji star of the Fortune Palace lands here, a scene might be: you are resting but wonder whether your younger brother or sister is looking after themselves; a peer’s achievement or low point stays in your mood for a long time; when you want to spend money on a little enjoyment, you first think about whether to share some with the family. If you have no siblings, read it as classmates of many years or long-term partners.

For someone born in a Ren year with the Life Palace in Yin (寅), the Fortune Palace is in Chen (辰), its stem is Jia, and the Hua Ji star of Jia is Tai Yang. This step can be fixed from the year stem and the Life Palace branch alone; whether Tai Yang sits in the Siblings Palace depends on the date and hour.

Charts where the Siblings Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: Tan Lang, Ju Men and Tian Tong are all common

Of all charts, about 8.2%, which is 21,579, have this line. Tian Tong Hua Ji accounts for 2,378 charts, and each of the other nine stars falls between 1,900 and 2,200, so no single star stands out. In the sampled charts, among those where the Siblings Palace has a main star, Tan Lang, Ju Men and Tian Tong are about 19%, 18% and 17%, only a point or two apart from each other, so we do not rank them; only about 3% of charts have an Empty Siblings Palace, and then only the auxiliary stars Wen Chang and Wen Qu can become Hua Ji there.

Brightness is on the low side in this square: the Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 32% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in about 22%; compared with the lines into the Life Palace and the Travel Palace, where Miao or Wang is above 50%. Applying Xingge’s descriptions of Tian Tong Hua Ji and Tan Lang Hua Ji: Tian Tong Hua Ji looks after the mood and puts its own needs behind, which among siblings means always giving way first; Tan Lang Hua Ji wants a lot and feels not good enough, and may use siblings as a yardstick for comparison. How to read the brightness of a Hua Ji star is not written by Xingge; a commonly heard view is that when it is dim, worries are more likely to stay bottled up and unsaid.

The Siblings Palace receives Hua Ji and clashes the Friends Palace: measure between siblings and friends

The Friends Palace sits directly opposite the Siblings Palace, and the Flying Star school says Hua Ji flying into the Siblings Palace clashes the Friends Palace: matters you cannot let go of on the family side may keep you tense in front of friends and colleagues, or the other way around, matters with friends remind you of home.

In practical terms, you can turn your concern for siblings into regular contact, such as one phone call a month, instead of worrying all the time; before helping, ask what the other person actually wants, so you do not waste effort; when you are with friends, keep a stretch of time for yourself where you do not talk about family. These are about how you spread your mental energy, and they do not judge any person.

Into the Spouse Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Spouse Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Spouse Palace is one of the lines people ask about most in the Flying Star school. In plain language: most of your inner concern and expectation goes into romance and close relationships, and your partner’s mood directly affects whether you feel at ease. It looks at where your mind rests, and does not predict whether love will go smoothly.

Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Spouse Palace: your own happiness tied to your partner’s

The Fortune Palace governs how you relax and what satisfies you, and the Spouse Palace governs close relationships. When Fortune Palace Hua Ji lands in the Spouse Palace, a scene is: on the same weekend, you only feel settled if the other person is happy; before doing a hobby you want, you first check whether the other person is free; a sentence left unfinished between the two of you takes up more of your mind than your own affairs. If you do not have a partner yet, this line can be read as your expectation of romance, a very heavy piece of your inner life.

Take someone born in a Geng year with the Life Palace in Shen (申): the Fortune Palace is in Xu (戌), its stem is Bing, and the Hua Ji star of Bing is Lian Zhen. Xingge describes Lian Zhen Hua Ji as 「原則強、情緒也重」 (“strong in principles, and heavy in emotion”): put into romance, it means your standards for getting along are very clear, and once a gap appears, you cannot get past it inside.

Charts where the Spouse Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: Tai Yin is the most noticeable main star in the same palace

About 8.1% of charts have this line, 21,343 in all. Tai Yin Hua Ji of the Yi stem accounts for 2,373 charts, and each of the other nine stars falls between 1,900 and 2,200. Using the sampled charts, among those where the Spouse Palace has a main star, Tai Yin is about 20%; Tian Tong, Lian Zhen, Wu Qu, Tian Ji, Ju Men and Tai Yang are each between 15% and 16%, and Tan Lang is about 12%, so Tai Yin leads the second place by about 5 percentage points. About 3.9% of charts have an Empty Spouse Palace, where Wen Chang or Wen Qu becomes Hua Ji. The Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 54% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in about 11%.

Take Xingge’s 「感受收得很深、容易被情緒牽著走」 (“takes feelings in very deeply and is easily led by emotion”) for Tai Yin Hua Ji: put into Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Spouse Palace, you absorb a lot of the other person’s emotions. Xingge has no reading for bright versus dim stars; some teachers think that when bright it means attentive care, and when dim you easily take the other person’s emotions as your own responsibility.

The Spouse Palace’s Hua Ji clash on the Career Palace: leave room for both love and work

The Career Palace is directly opposite the Spouse Palace, so Hua Ji into the Spouse Palace clashes the Career Palace: concern in the relationship may take away focus from work, and tiredness from work may also make you more sensitive in the relationship.

Write down separately what you want and what the other person wants, and do not hand all your happiness over to them; keep a stretch of time each week for your own hobby, without planning any task for the two of you; when work is busy, saying 「我現在比較累,不是在意你」 (“I am more tired right now, it is not that I do not care about you”) is lighter than making the other person guess. This is a way of speaking inside a relationship, not a forecast of anything.

Into the Children Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Children Palace

When the Hua Ji star of the Fortune Palace sits in the Children Palace, it is mostly read as: your mental energy and expectations go to your children, younger people, or the people and works you raised yourself, and how they are doing affects whether you feel at ease. It can be read even if you have no children.

Putting your heart on the people you lead: Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Children Palace

On Xingge, the Children Palace looks at children, and also at the people you lead: students, subordinates and younger people. When Fortune Palace Hua Ji lands here, a scene is: when you see something you like, your first thought is whether your child or student would like it; when you want to rest, your mind is still working out their next step; your own enjoyment is often put last. For people without children, compare it with the juniors you mentor, the pets you keep, or a creative work that takes a lot of your time.

Take someone born in a Geng year with the Life Palace in Si (巳): the Fortune Palace is in Wei (未), its stem is Gui, and the Hua Ji star of Gui is Tan Lang; the year stem and the Life Palace branch are enough to get this far. Xingge reads Tan Lang Hua Ji as having many desires and talents but feeling not good enough inside; on this line it means wanting to do a bit more for the people around you.

Charts where the Children Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: Tan Lang and Ju Men around 20%

Over 21,600 charts, 21,661 in all, have this line, about 8.2%. Tai Yin Hua Ji of the Yi stem accounts for 2,453 charts, and the other nine stars fall between 1,900 and 2,200. In the sample, among charts where the Children Palace has a main star, Tan Lang is about 20% and Ju Men about 18%, with Tian Ji, Tai Yin and Tian Tong each between 15% and 16%; about 2.5% of charts have an Empty Children Palace, where only Wen Chang or Wen Qu can become Hua Ji.

Brightness in the Children Palace squares is on the low side: the Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 35% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in about 22%. How to read brightness Xingge does not say; some teachers think that when dim, your effort mostly goes unseen, and when bright, you get a sense of achievement that can be taken back. The flavor of Ju Men Hua Ji is to take words back and think about them again and again, which here means you have something to say to your child or junior but are often unsure whether to say it.

The Children Palace’s Hua Ji reaches the Property Palace: schedule home and leading people separately

The Property Palace sits directly opposite the Children Palace. The Flying Star school says Hua Ji into the Children Palace stirs the Property Palace: leading people takes over the space and time of home, or the situation at home affects your mood as you lead people.

Keep a fixed place and time for your own interests, written into the calendar like a child’s schedule; say your expectation of children or juniors as one concrete thing, rather than a general 「你要好好的」 (“you must be well”); make clear how housework and upbringing are divided, so it does not all fall on one person. This is how you spread your effort, not a judgment on how well you lead people.

Into the Wealth Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Wealth Palace

The Wealth Palace is exactly opposite the Fortune Palace, so Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Wealth Palace is a special case: Hua Ji landing in the Wealth Palace clashes right back onto the Fortune Palace itself. The Flying Star school reads it as inner concern falling on money, and money matters then pulling at the mood in return; the direction is opposite to Xingge’s 「財帛忌入福德」 (“Wealth Palace Hua Ji flying into the Fortune Palace”).

Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Wealth Palace: why it is called a clash on the Fortune Palace

Xingge’s table of opposite palaces puts it plainly: Hua Ji sitting in the Wealth Palace clashes the Fortune Palace, and the common feeling is worrying over money and finding it hard to relax. The Fortune Palace governs ease inside; when Hua Ji falls in the Wealth Palace opposite, the Flying Star school says the force bounces back to the Fortune Palace itself: the more you try to buy peace of mind with money, the harder it is for your heart to let go.

Scenes are like: when in a bad mood, you think of earning a bit more; you only feel settled when you see the number in your savings; you want to buy something you like but fear spending carelessly. What Xingge calls Wealth Palace Hua Ji flying into the Fortune Palace has money setting out first and then affecting the mood; this line has the mood setting out first and landing on money.

Charts where the Wealth Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: the share with an Empty Fortune Palace is very high

Of 262,980 charts, 21,937 have Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Wealth Palace, about 8.3%. Ju Men Hua Ji and Tan Lang Hua Ji are about 11% each, and Lian Zhen Hua Ji is fewer, about 8.5%. In the sampled charts, about 42% have an Empty Fortune Palace, against about 16% of all charts. When the Fortune Palace is empty, its main stars are borrowed from the Wealth Palace, and the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji flies into the Wealth Palace, so it often lands exactly on the borrowed star; only about 4% of charts have the Wealth Palace itself empty, and then the auxiliary stars Wen Chang and Wen Qu are the only possibility.

The Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 54% of cases, and Xian (Fallen) in under 10%. The flavor of Ju Men Hua Ji is words left unsaid that go round and round inside, which on money becomes checking the accounts again and again in your head; Tan Lang Hua Ji wants a lot and often feels short, and may try to prove itself by earning more. Xingge has no reading for bright and dim; one view is that when bright you count clearly, and when dim you grow more anxious the more you count.

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Wealth Palace: set a source of reassurance that does not depend on money

The Flying Star school reads this line as staking your sense of security on money. First set a level you feel is enough, decided by yourself, and once you reach it, stop worrying further about it; also list three things for your mood that cost no money, so that it does not rest entirely on numbers; when you want to use shopping as comfort, write down why you want to buy before deciding whether to buy.

If the Fortune Palace is empty and the borrowed stars sit in the Wealth Palace, the character of those two stars is what you really want from money. This is a way to sort out spending habits; it is not investment advice, nor does it say money will definitely go wrong.

Into the Health Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Health Palace

When the Hua Ji star of the Fortune Palace lands in the Health Palace, the Flying Star school means: what you cannot let go of inside falls on the way you carry pressure and manage emotion, and mood and tolerance often pull on each other. This section talks only about the flow of pressure and emotion, not about the body.

Unreleased worries land on how you carry pressure: Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Health Palace

On Xingge, the Health Palace is where you bear pressure, and the Fortune Palace governs whether you are at ease inside. When Fortune Palace Hua Ji lands in the Health Palace, a scene is: with one matter left unfinished, your whole state tightens; outwardly everything is normal, but you know that line inside is always stretched; when emotion rises, you can bear it, but it costs a lot of effort.

Take someone born in a Xin year with the Life Palace in Chen (辰): the Fortune Palace is in Wu (午), its stem is Jia, and the Hua Ji star of Jia is Tai Yang. Xingge describes Tai Yang Hua Ji as always lighting others and staying quiet when tired; on this line, others see you as steady, while you know the pressure inside has not been put down.

Charts where the Health Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: Tan Lang and Ju Men about 20% each

22,007 charts follow this line, about 8.4%. Ju Men Hua Ji of the Ding stem at 2,526 and Tan Lang Hua Ji of the Gui stem at 2,524 are slightly more, and Tai Yin Hua Ji is fewer, about 1,780. By the sample, among charts where the Health Palace has a main star, Tan Lang and Ju Men are about 20% each, and Tai Yang, Tian Ji and Tian Tong are about 15% each; if the Health Palace is empty (about 3%), only Wen Chang or Wen Qu can become Hua Ji there.

The brightness in this square is on the dim side: the Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 33% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in about 24%. How to read bright versus dim Xingge does not say; some teachers’ opinion is that when dim, the ups and downs of pressure and emotion need more of an outlet. The flavor of Tan Lang Hua Ji is many desires and talents yet feeling not good enough; on this line, you set many standards for yourself and still feel you have not done enough.

The Health Palace’s Hua Ji clash on the Parents Palace: pressure from the feeling of being watched

The other end of the Health Palace is the Parents Palace, which governs elders, bosses and rules. Hua Ji from the Health Palace goes straight across to clash the Parents Palace (the Flying Star school’s view): the pressure inside is often linked to being evaluated and being expected of.

When pressure gets heavy, first write its source in one sentence and tell apart whether it is the matter itself or other people’s eyes; with elders or bosses, ask the expectation as a concrete standard, for example how far this task has to go to count as done; keep a stretch of time that needs no explaining at all, so your mental energy has somewhere to put things down. This is a way to sort out your mental energy, not a judgment of your condition.

Into the Travel Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Travel Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Travel Palace is also called Fortune Palace Hua Ji clashing the Life Palace: directly opposite the Travel Palace is the Life Palace, so Hua Ji landing there clashes right back onto you. The Flying Star school reads it as you carrying your inner concerns into outside settings, and your performance and relationships out there then pulling at your own state in return.

Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Travel Palace: why it is called a clash on the Life Palace

The Travel Palace governs going out, and the outside settings and opportunities; directly opposite it is the Life Palace, so Hua Ji into the Travel Palace is Hua Ji clashing the Life Palace. This follows from the six fixed pairs of opposite palaces and is the same for everyone. The Fortune Palace governs ease inside, and when Hua Ji flies outward, a scene is: you have to perform well outside and only put it down once you are home; for a gathering or a business trip, your mood before and after is taken up; before going out you first think of how others will see you.

Take someone born in a Jia year with the Life Palace in Zi (子): the Fortune Palace is in Yin (寅), its stem is Bing, and the Hua Ji star of Bing is Lian Zhen; the year stem and the Life Palace branch are enough to get this far. Xingge writes the flavor of Lian Zhen Hua Ji as holding firm on right and wrong and being heavy in emotion, easily competing with people or with yourself; on this line, it is wanting especially to hold your own standard when you are outside.

Charts where the Travel Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: the share with an Empty Life Palace is very high

21,756 charts show this line, about 8.3%. Wu Qu Hua Ji of the Ren stem accounts for 2,374 charts, and Tai Yang Hua Ji and Tai Yin Hua Ji are fewer, about 2,000 each. In the sampled charts, among those where the Travel Palace has a main star, Tai Yin is about 18%, and Ju Men, Tian Tong, Wu Qu, Lian Zhen and Tian Ji are each around 16%; about 4% have an Empty Travel Palace, where only Wen Chang and Wen Qu can become Hua Ji.

Of the Life Palace that receives the clash, about 40% are empty in these charts, against about 16.5% of all charts. When the Life Palace is empty, the chart is read with the main stars of the Travel Palace; in these charts about 91% have the Hua Ji star sitting exactly on a main star of the Travel Palace, that is, the very star the Life Palace borrows to be read. The Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 52% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in under 10%. Xingge gives no reading for bright versus dim; some teachers think that when bright, your performance outside has some confidence behind it, and when dim you need someone to back you up more when you are outside.

After the Hua Ji clash on the Life Palace, keep the scene outside apart from your own mood

The Flying Star school reads this line as things outside coming back to affect your state. Before an important occasion, first decide on the one thing you most want to achieve, and treat everything else as a bonus; when you come back, spend a few minutes writing which thing went well today, then put the rest down; for places you visit often, prepare a familiar small habit, so you have a base.

If the Life Palace is empty, the main stars of the Travel Palace borrowed for it are how you appear outside, and understanding the character of those two stars is more accurate than looking at the Hua Ji alone. This is a way to organize your mental energy, not a forecast of what you will meet when you go out.

Into the Friends Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Friends Palace

When Fortune Palace Hua Ji lands in the Friends Palace, it is often read as: your mood and ease are pulled by friends, colleagues and social exchange, and other people’s reactions often sway your feelings for the day. It speaks of the direction of your concern, not of whether your friends are good or bad.

Mood led by social obligations: Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Friends Palace

The Friends Palace looks at friends, colleagues and the people you work with; on Xingge this palace is also called the Servants Palace (僕役宮). When Fortune Palace Hua Ji lands here, a scene is: one unanswered message leaves you unsettled all day; you want to go to a friend’s gathering but fear getting tired, and once there you mind who said what; a colleague’s joke is still replayed in the evening.

For someone born in a Geng year with the Life Palace in Zi (子), the Fortune Palace falls in Yin (寅), the stem of this palace is Wu, and the Hua Ji star of Wu is Tian Ji; the year stem and the Life Palace branch are enough to get this far. Tian Ji Hua Ji likes to calculate again and again, and the finer it thinks, the easier it gets stuck, which is Xingge’s reading; put into social life, it means running other people’s reactions through your head several times.

Charts where the Friends Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: Tan Lang and Ju Men around 20%

About 8.4% of charts have this line, 22,034 in all. Lian Zhen Hua Ji of the Bing stem is 2,525 charts and Tan Lang Hua Ji of the Gui stem is 2,376 charts, and the rest fall between 1,900 and 2,300. In the sample, among charts where the Friends Palace has a main star, Tan Lang is about 20% and Ju Men about 19%, with Tian Tong, Tian Ji and Tai Yin each around 14%; Empty Palaces are about 2.6%, where only Wen Chang and Wen Qu get to become Hua Ji.

Brightness in the Friends Palace is not high: the Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 31% of cases, and Xian (Fallen) in about 22%. The flavor of Tan Lang Hua Ji is wanting a lot and feeling not good enough, which among people is wanting too much to be liked; Ju Men Hua Ji keeps words in the belly and thinks them over and over, which among friends is having something to say and not saying it. Xingge gives no answer on how to read brightness; some teachers think that when the star is dim, you more easily magnify other people’s reactions.

Hua Ji into the Friends Palace clashes the Siblings Palace: leave room for both the friend circle and the family circle

The Siblings Palace is directly opposite the Friends Palace. The Flying Star school holds that when Hua Ji is in the Friends Palace, the Siblings Palace is also pulled: friends’ affairs may take up your care for siblings and family, or the family’s views may in turn affect how you appear in front of friends.

Note separately the gatherings that drain you and the ones that let you relax, and ration the first while setting aside fixed time for the second; you do not have to answer messages at once, so set your own rhythm of replying; when you have something to say to a friend, pick one concrete matter and say it in one sentence, which is lighter than rehearsing it ten times. This is social measure, and does not mean you should have fewer friends.

Into the Career Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Career Palace

Work and mood tied together is what Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Career Palace means in the Flying Star school: you press your inner concern and expectation onto work and career, and how well you do directly decides whether you feel comfortable inside. It speaks of the direction of your mental energy, not of success or failure in your career.

Work becomes the gauge of your mood: Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Career Palace

The Career Palace governs work and career, and the Fortune Palace governs ease inside. When Fortune Palace Hua Ji lands in the Career Palace, a scene is: when a project goes well you light up, and when it is stuck even meals have no taste; a hobby slowly becomes part of your work, and you no longer know how to simply enjoy it; other people’s leisure time, you use to think about the next progress step.

For someone born in a Xin year with the Life Palace in Xu (戌), the Fortune Palace is in Zi (子), its stem is Geng, and the Hua Ji star of Geng is Tian Tong, which can be worked out from the year stem and the Life Palace branch alone. Tian Tong Hua Ji, in Xingge’s words, looks after the mood first and puts its own needs behind; at work it means, for the sake of team harmony, often setting aside what you want.

Charts where the Career Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: Tai Yin around 20%, the others a bit over 10% each

Of 262,980 charts, 22,305 have this line, about 8.5%. Lian Zhen Hua Ji of the Bing stem is 2,524 and Wu Qu Hua Ji of the Ren stem is 2,522, while Tan Lang Hua Ji and Tai Yang Hua Ji are each about 1,900. In the sampled statistics, among charts where the Career Palace has a main star, Tai Yin is about 19%, Wu Qu about 17% and Lian Zhen about 16.5%, and Tian Ji, Ju Men, Tian Tong and Tai Yang are each between 14% and 16%; Tai Yin is about 2.4 points ahead of third place, so it can only be said to lead slightly. About 4% of charts have an Empty Career Palace, where the auxiliary star Wen Chang or Wen Qu is the only possibility.

The Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 54% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in under 10%. Xingge reads Wu Qu Hua Ji as being used to carrying things alone, with money and major decisions weighing on the mind, which at work is pulling difficult problems onto yourself first; Lian Zhen Hua Ji has strong principles and easily competes. Xingge does not give a reading for bright versus dim; some teachers think that when the Hua Ji star is bright, focus is strong, and when dim, you easily bring work into your private time.

The Career Palace’s Hua Ji clash on the Spouse Palace: leave a little for both career and those close to you

The Spouse Palace sits directly opposite the Career Palace. When the Career Palace receives Hua Ji, then by the Flying Star school’s Hua Ji clash the Spouse Palace is also pulled: the weight of your career takes away the energy for being with someone close, or the state of your relationship affects how steady you are at work.

Each week pick a stretch of time to do only what makes you happy, without talking about results; in a heavy-workload phase, tell those close to you beforehand when you will be busier and when you can talk; split the sense of achievement from work into two parts: whether the result is good, and whether the process of doing it is something you like. If you have no partner, read the Spouse Palace as close relationships. This is how you divide your energy, not a comment on your career.

Into the Property Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Property Palace

Home and mood tied together is what Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Property Palace means in the Flying Star school: your ease inside is closely bound to home, the place you live and what you own. When home is comfortable you can loosen up, and when something is wrong at home your heart hangs along with it. It speaks of where your thoughts go.

Home becomes the anchor of your mood: Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Property Palace

The Property Palace governs where you live, the family’s space and assets, and the Fortune Palace governs satisfaction inside. When Fortune Palace Hua Ji lands in the Property Palace, a scene is: you only truly put things down when you are home, and when away you keep thinking of home; if one thing is missing in the house, you are uneasy as a whole; you spend money on home without a second thought, while hesitating over spending elsewhere.

For someone born in a Jia year with the Life Palace in Yin (寅), the Fortune Palace is in Chen (辰), its stem is Wu, and the Hua Ji star of Wu is Tian Ji; the year stem and the Life Palace branch are enough to work it out. Tian Ji Hua Ji is what Xingge calls liking to calculate, thinking a matter through several rounds before feeling at ease; applied to arranging your home, it means going over each ornament and each expense several rounds.

Charts where the Property Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: this palace leans dim

Overall about 8.4%, that is 22,122 charts, take this line. Tai Yin Hua Ji of the Yi stem is 2,452 and Tan Lang Hua Ji is 1,927, and the ten stars are not far apart. In the sample, among charts where the Property Palace has a main star, Ju Men is about 18%, Tan Lang about 17% and Tai Yin about 16%, with Tian Ji, Tai Yang and Tian Tong each about 15%; about 2.6% have a Property Palace with no main star at all, where only Wen Chang and Wen Qu can become Hua Ji.

The Property Palace leans dim: the Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 33% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in about 22%. The flavor of Ju Men Hua Ji is keeping words in the belly and thinking them over and over, which at home is some words that have never been said out loud; Tai Yin Hua Ji takes feelings in deep and is easily led by the atmosphere at home. Xingge has not written an interpretation of bright versus dim; one saying is that when dim you rely more on the state of home to steady your mood.

The Property Palace’s Hua Ji clash on the Children Palace: how home is arranged and the people you lead

The Children Palace sits directly opposite the Property Palace and governs children and the people you lead. When the Property Palace receives Hua Ji, the Flying Star school says the Children Palace is also pulled: to make home comfortable you may put your focus on your children or the people who live with you, or their state may pull on the atmosphere of home.

Keep a fixed corner at home for yourself, with things you like; for big household expenses, set priorities first and let the rest wait; with the people you live with, say the standard you feel comfortable with as concrete rules, instead of expecting them to guess. If you have no children, read the Children Palace as the people and matters you look after. This is how you divide your effort, not a judgment of your home.

Self-Hua Ji

Fortune Palace self-Hua Ji

Fortune Palace Self-Hua Ji, put plainly, is Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Fortune Palace: the Fortune Palace’s own stem produces a Hua Ji star, and that star happens to sit in the Fortune Palace. The Flying Star school calls it outward self-transformation (離心自化) and reads it as thoughts in the heart that do not fly out but circle in place; the common picture is thinking a lot and finding it hard to relax completely. Xingge’s view of self-transformation is that it comes fast and fades fast, and it does not mean being stuck all the time.

What Fortune Palace Self-Hua Ji is: thoughts that do not go out the door but circle inside

The method has three steps. First use the stem of the birth year to lay out the stems of the twelve palaces, then look up the Hua Ji star of the Fortune Palace stem, and finally see whether that star sits in the Fortune Palace itself; if it does, the chart marks it with ↻. The Fortune Palace governs the inner life and interests, so Self-Hua Ji is read as: the thoughts in your heart mostly turn on themselves, not necessarily tied to any person or matter.

A scene is: when you quiet down, your head is loudest; while doing something you like, you also wonder whether you are doing it right; an idea is thought over and over and in the end stays only in your heart. Take someone born in a Gui year with the Life Palace in Zi (子): the Fortune Palace is in Yin (寅), its stem is Jia, and the Hua Ji star of Jia is Tai Yang; whether Tai Yang sits in the Fortune Palace depends on the date and hour. Because the Hua Ji star stays in the Fortune Palace and does not fly out, and Xingge discusses the Hua Ji clash only for Hua Ji that flies out, this line does not look at the opposite palace.

Charts with Fortune Palace Self-Hua Ji: the Fortune Palace mostly holds Tai Yin

About one chart in every twelve, 22,095 in all, about 8.4%. The ten Hua Ji stars are all around 10%, from Tai Yang Hua Ji of the Jia stem at 2,449 to Wu Qu Hua Ji at 2,076. In the sampled statistics, among charts where the Fortune Palace has a star, Tai Yin is about 19.5%, Tai Yang about 16.5% and Lian Zhen about 16%, with Tai Yin leading second place by about 3 percentage points; about 3.6% of charts have an Empty Fortune Palace, against about 16% of all charts, and then the Hua Ji star can only be Wen Chang or Wen Qu.

The Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 56% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in about 10%. For Tai Yin Hua Ji take Xingge’s 「感受收得深、被情緒牽著走」 (“takes feelings in deeply and is led by emotion”); Lian Zhen Hua Ji has strong principles and easily competes with itself; Ju Men Hua Ji takes its words back first and turns them over. Xingge has no reading for the brightness of stars; another teacher thinks that a bright Hua Ji star is like turning thoughts into focus, while a dim one easily turns into spinning in place.

A note for Fortune Palace Self-Hua Ji: when you want to let go, really let go

The nature of self-transformation is coming fast and fading fast, so the point is not to suppress the thought but to give it an ending action. For a matter that keeps going round in your head, write it on paper in a sentence or two, and close the paper when you finish; a hobby does not have to produce a result every time, and sometimes you can just play without keeping a record; for something you cannot think through, tell someone you trust, since saying it out loud often lets go faster than turning it over alone for three days.

This line describes how thoughts flow, not a verdict on personality. The main stars, the birth-year Four Transformations and the Three Harmonies and Four Directions are the base color of the chart, and people who do not feel they think too much do not have to force the fit.

Into the Parents Palace

Fortune Palace Hua Ji into the Parents Palace

Elders and rules pulling on your mood is what Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Parents Palace means in the Flying Star school: your mood and ease are pulled by elders, bosses and rules, and in order not to let down their expectations you often put your own ideas behind. It looks at where your mind is turned, and does not judge parent-child relationships or the workplace.

Elders’ eyes always on your mind: Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Parents Palace

The Parents Palace governs parents, elders and bosses, and also documents and regulations. When Fortune Palace Hua Ji lands here, a scene is: when you do something you like, you first think whether your elders will feel you are not doing proper work; a glance from your boss weighs more than your own judgment; filling in a form or replying to a formal letter also costs extra effort. If your relationship with your parents is distant, you can also read it as caring about authority and rules.

For someone born in a Bing year with the Life Palace in Zi (子), the Fortune Palace is in Yin (寅), its stem is Geng, and the Hua Ji star of Geng is Tian Tong; the year stem and the Life Palace branch are enough to get there. The flavor of Tian Tong Hua Ji, which Xingge writes as looking after the mood and putting needs behind, on this line becomes putting down what you want first so that elders or bosses can feel at ease.

Charts where the Parents Palace receives the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji: this square leans dim

Of 262,980 charts, 22,453 have this line, about 8.5%. The ten Hua Ji stars all fall between 2,075 and 2,667 charts, and no one star runs ahead. In the sample, if the Parents Palace has a main star, Ju Men is about 19% and Tan Lang about 18%, with Tai Yin, Tai Yang and Tian Ji each about 16%; about 2.7% have an Empty Parents Palace, where only Wen Chang and Wen Qu can become Hua Ji there.

The Parents Palace position leans dim: the Hua Ji star is Miao or Wang in about 32% of cases and Xian (Fallen) in about 23%. Xingge reads Tai Yang Hua Ji as lighting others and not mentioning your own tiredness, which here is always reporting good news and not bad in front of elders. Xingge has no saying on bright versus dim; some teachers think that when dim you more easily take expectations as pressure, and when bright it is mostly a sincere wish to repay.

The Parents Palace’s Hua Ji clash on the Health Palace: when expectations press on you

The Health Palace sits directly opposite the Parents Palace. When the Parents Palace receives Hua Ji, the Flying Star school’s Hua Ji clash falls on the Health Palace: the feeling of being expected of and watched easily lands on how you bear pressure and emotion, rather than staying in social settings.

Ask the expectation of elders or a boss as one concrete thing, for example which point they most hope I reach this month; for what you want to do yourself, first do a small part for yourself to see, and then decide how to report it; when emotion builds up, write it as one sentence, 「我現在需要的是什麼」 (“what I need right now”), and you do not need to say it to anyone at once. This is how you adjust your energy, not a judgment of your family or your work environment.

FAQ

How do I work out which palace Fortune Palace Hua Ji flies into?

First chart the birth chart and read the stem of the Fortune Palace, then look up the Hua Ji star for that stem in the Four Transformations table and see which palace that star sits in on the chart: that is the landing palace. If the star sits in the Fortune Palace itself, it is Self-Hua Ji. The table for the ten stems is in the first section above.

Is Fortune Palace Hua Ji from the Zi Wei Dou Shu Quan Shu?

No, it is a method that only the later Flying Star school has. It takes the Fortune Palace’s own stem and transforms with the Four Transformations a second time, which is a different system from the birth-year Four Transformations (set by the stem of your birth year), so keep the two apart when you read them together.

Does Fortune Palace Hua Ji mean poor fortune?

No. There are twelve landing palaces and each chart has only one, so this is only a description of where your mental energy flows, that is, which matter you find harder to let go. It does not judge how much fortune you have.

What is the difference between Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into a palace and that palace’s Hua Ji flying into the Fortune Palace?

The direction is opposite. Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Life Palace means matters of the heart come back onto yourself, like being chased by your own worries; Life Palace Hua Ji flying into the Fortune Palace means your mental energy moves into your inner world, like burrowing into your worries yourself. The starting point differs, and so does what you read.

Why do people with Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Life Palace easily criticize themselves?

The Flying Star school treats the Fortune Palace as the feelings in your heart. When Hua Ji flies into the Life Palace, those feelings land directly on yourself, so even a small matter easily turns into a check on yourself. This is the direction of your mental energy, not a verdict on your character; the main stars and the Three Harmonies and Four Directions are the base color of the whole chart.

With Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Siblings Palace, is it easy to have knots with siblings?

That is jumping to a conclusion. The Flying Star school says your concern is moving toward siblings and you care more; it is not a judgment of how thick or thin the bond is. For the bond with siblings, go back to the main stars of the Siblings Palace and the Three Harmonies and Four Directions.

How do I read Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Siblings Palace if I have no siblings?

The Siblings Palace also looks at close peers and the people you partner with. Read it as your mood being easily moved by peers and collaborators; how they are doing affects whether you can loosen up.

With Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Spouse Palace, will I depend heavily on my partner?

The Flying Star school reads it as the center of your inner life resting on romance, so the other person’s state affects your ease. That does not equal dependence; it may simply mean you value the quality of the relationship. Look at the main stars of the Spouse Palace and your own habits.

With Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Children Palace, is the bond with children weaker?

You cannot say that. The Flying Star school says your mind rests on your children and you care more; the bond is read on a fixed scale of its own, so go back to the main stars of the Children Palace and the Three Harmonies and Four Directions.

How do I use Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Children Palace if I have no children?

The Children Palace also governs the people you lead and the works you pour yourself into. Read it as your sense of achievement and your mood being tied to the people you nurture or your creative work; leaving a fixed place for your own enjoyment is especially useful then.

How do I read Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Wealth Palace when the Fortune Palace is empty?

An Empty Fortune Palace is read with the main stars borrowed from the Wealth Palace, and the Fortune Palace’s Hua Ji often lands exactly on a borrowed star, so this line is especially common in people with an empty Fortune Palace. Once you see clearly the character of the two Wealth Palace stars, you know where your sense of security is tied.

With Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Health Palace, why can’t I let go of the pressure?

The Flying Star school reads it as inner concern falling directly on how you bear pressure, so even after the matter has passed, you are still tense inside. Writing down the source and splitting it into two columns, what you can do and what you cannot, is a way of giving the thought a place.

With Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Travel Palace, is it easy to feel uneasy outside?

Not necessarily. The Flying Star school says your concerns go outside with you, and how you perform and are seen out there comes back to affect you. Whether you actually feel at ease depends on the stars of the Travel Palace and your usual habits.

Why is Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Travel Palace also called a Hua Ji clash on the Life Palace?

The Life Palace and the Travel Palace are a fixed pair of opposite palaces. When Hua Ji flies into the Travel Palace, the Flying Star school holds that the force passes through and clashes the palace directly opposite, the Life Palace, which is you.

With Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Friends Palace, is my mood easily affected by friends?

The Flying Star school does read it that way: your ease inside is tied to social exchange. But it also means you value relationships. Deciding yourself on the rhythm of replies and the frequency of gatherings makes this line much lighter.

Does Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Friends Palace relate to colleagues at work?

Yes. The Friends Palace also covers colleagues and the people you work with, so this line shows up in the workplace too, as caring about colleagues’ attitudes and the atmosphere of the team.

With Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Career Palace, am I a workaholic?

You cannot say that. The Flying Star school speaks of mood being tied to work, happy when it goes well and low when it is stuck; this is how much you care, not working hours. Look at the main stars of the Career Palace and your own habits.

How do I use Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Career Palace once a hobby has become my work?

Keep one place for the hobby that needs no results: do not publish, do not track progress, do not count income. That way, outside work, your mood still has a pure outlet.

With Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Property Palace, am I very attached to home?

The Flying Star school does often read it that way: your ease inside is tied to home. This is a preference of mental energy and does not mean you do not want to go out; it may simply mean you value a base where you can relax.

Does Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Property Palace relate to buying a house?

Xingge does not treat it as a forecast of buying or selling property. This line speaks of your mood and your living environment pulling on each other; for property decisions, go back to the stars of the Property Palace and your own cash arrangements.

Does Fortune Palace Self-Hua Ji mean thinking too much?

The Flying Star school does often read it as thoughts circling in the heart. But self-transformation speaks of coming fast and fading fast, more like being easily tripped up by your own standards while also being able to let go. What actually happens still depends on the main stars and your usual habits.

What is the difference between Fortune Palace Self-Hua Ji and birth-year Hua Ji in the Fortune Palace?

Birth-year Hua Ji is set by the stem of the birth year and speaks of the matter you have always found hard to let go; Self-Hua Ji is set by the Fortune Palace’s own stem and only looks at whether the Hua Ji star happens to sit in the Fortune Palace. The two can exist at the same time, one leaning toward the base color and the other toward how thoughts flow.

With Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Parents Palace, do I care too much about my parents’ views?

The Flying Star school does read it as your mood being tied to elders’ views. This is caring, not a flaw, and may also be your sense of responsibility toward family or a boss. Look at the stars of the Parents Palace and how you get along.

How do I read Fortune Palace Hua Ji flying into the Parents Palace at work?

The Parents Palace also governs bosses and regulations, so in the workplace this line shows up as caring about a manager’s evaluation and valuing rules and documents. Asking the expectation clearly and writing it down saves more effort than guessing.
