Fu Bing (Hidden Troops) is the eleventh of the Twelve Erudite Gods (Bo Shi). The name means soldiers lying in ambush, and this god is about resistance you didn't see coming, or talk behind your back: things look smooth, then a surprise turns up around the corner. Think one step further and it won't throw you off. To see which palace your Fu Bing is in, draw your chart.

How Fu Bing is placed

The Bo Shi set starts with Bo Shi in the Lu Cun palace; count to the eleventh and you reach Fu Bing. Men born in yang years and women born in yin years count forward, so Fu Bing is ten palaces ahead of Lu Cun; men born in yin years and women born in yang years count backward, so it's ten palaces behind.

The palace opposite Fu Bing always holds Jiang Jun: open attack on one side, hidden variables on the other. Its trines hold Qing Long and Fei Lian.

What the classics say, and how to read it now

The verse in volume two of the (The Complete Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu), in the An Shi Er Gong Tai Sui Sha Lu Jue section, says "Fu Bing and Guan Fu bring entangling talk," grouping Fu Bing and Guan Fu under gossip and quarrels. Where volume two lists each star's element, it also says:

Fu Bing is Fire and rules gossip and quarrels.

Read for today, Xingge takes Fu Bing to mean that in this palace things you didn't plan for come up easily. It might be a detail nobody spelled out, someone's private opinion, or a snag hidden in the process. It doesn't mean someone is out to get you. It's a reminder: double-check what matters and say things up front, and there will be far fewer surprises.

Fu Bing in key palaces

  • Life Palace: thinking one step ahead serves you well, so keep a backup plan. Don't worry too much about what people say privately; doing your own work well counts for most.
  • Wealth Palace: money matters tend to carry hidden costs, such as fees, penalty clauses or charges nobody spelled out. Read every line item before you sign.
  • Career Palace: at work, unexpected resistance comes up easily, such as last-minute spec changes or objections from another department. Keep written records of important decisions and check in with the people involved beforehand.
  • Spouse Palace: unspoken knots can form between the two of you. Talk small things through when they happen, so they don't turn into hidden troops.
  • Health Palace: stress tends to build up where you can't see it, until tiredness suddenly hits. Build rest in as a habit; don't wait to be thrown off.

Natal chart and Annual Luck

Fu Bing is natal. It follows your birth-year Lu Cun and never changes. On the Xingge chart, the sets that change with the year are the Twelve General Gods (Jiang Qian) and the Twelve Year Gods (Sui Qian). When the or reaches the Fu Bing palace, leave a bit more buffer in that area and take a second look at contracts and agreements. If the Sui Qian Guan Fu (Official Tally), a different god from the Bo Shi Guan Fu, also lands nearby that year, it's an even better time to say things clearly and keep records.
