The Petri dish of 1928
On September 3, 1928 (nominal age 48), Fleming came back to his laboratory from holiday and found a culture dish contaminated with mould, with the staphylococci around the mould destroyed, famously remarking "That's funny". He identified the mould as belonging to the genus Penicillium. In 1928 his annual Life Palace reached the natal Children Palace, and in the annual Four Transformations You Bi takes Hua Ke (Transformation of Fame) there as well. Hua Ke is scholarly achievement and a lasting name; falling in that year's annual Life Palace, it lines up with the year's discovery.
Source ↗Not letting go when no one paid attention
When he published on penicillin in 1929, few took notice; when he spoke about its medical value at the International Congress of Microbiology in 1936, no one backed him either. He bore the disappointment quietly and kept working: he preserved, grew and distributed the original mould for twelve years, and in 1940 he was still looking for chemists to help. His Body Palace falls in the Fortune Palace, with Wen Chang (Miao) and Hua Ji (Transformation of Obstruction). Hua Ji is where effort and attention go, which lines up with the effort he put into penicillin over these years.
Source ↗Warning audiences around the world
Fleming saw early on that if penicillin was used in too small a dose or for too short a course, bacteria would become resistant, and he warned about it in many talks around the world. In his 1945 Nobel Lecture he said: "The time may come when penicillin can be bought by anyone in the shops. Then there is the danger that the ignorant man may easily underdose himself and ... make them resistant." His Travel Palace holds Tai Yang (Bu) with Hua Quan. The Travel Palace covers going out; Tai Yang shines outward, and Hua Quan gives words weight, which fits his warnings everywhere.
