Terms in this palace · Tap for a plain explanation

You're quick and full of interests, and you can't sit still.

You often start things without finishing, so see one through.

Stars
Tan Lang NatureYou are curious and many-talented, well liked, and you want a lot from life. With so many interests, pick one or two to go deep on.
Tan Lang AloneYou think fast and talk well, and you tend to hide what you really think. Speaking plainly actually earns you more trust.
PeacefulClassical texts say Tan Lang tries to be clever and ends up clumsy. Today, it means cleverness can backfire, so building real expertise beats playing tricks.“What Does Tan Lang Govern?”
Life Master Lu CunDeep down you want stability and value security and practicality. Holding steady is a skill; do not let it keep you from moving. Your Life Master sits in your Travel Palace, so your thoughts often circle around travel and social settings.
Patterns
Sha Po Lang (Killings, Breaker, Wolf)Your Life Palace sits on the Sha Po Lang line: life moves in big swings and you rarely sit still. Change is your fuel, but always leave yourself a way back.Classic pattern
This part follows the Flying Star school: where this palace's stem sends its transformations. It is a different method from the classical reading above.
Self Hua LuYou’re generous with yourself, and good luck tends to get spent on you first. Set a share aside.
Ji to ParentsThe palace stem sends Tian Ji Hua Ji into your Parents Palace: the part of your own affairs you cannot let go of tends to land with elders.
Auxiliary Stars
Tian MaYou were born unable to sit still, and your life unfolds through moving and trying things. The more willing you are to change scenery, the more opportunities you meet.
Minor Stars
Gu ChenYou are good at being alone and used to working through things by yourself. When someone asks how you are, try telling the truth.
Tian XingYou are principled, follow the rules and hold yourself to a high standard. Self-discipline is a strength; just do not be too hard on yourself.
BingIt can be hard to find your strength. Slow down and do not take on too much at once.

What the Quan Shu says about this palaceWhen Lu meets clash and breakage, misfortune hides within good fortune. When Ma meets emptiness, one rushes about all one's life.“Tai Wei Fu” ›When the Tan star enters a Ma enclosure (Yin, Shen, Si, Hai), it turns easily to good and easily to bad; when malefic stars join in supporting it together with benign stars, the person's nature is inconstant.“Xing Xing Fu” ›Yin is the enclosure of wood, the time when the three yang lines meet in harmony, the place where grass and trees sprout; when it comes to the Mao position, wood is at its most prosperous. Tan Lang and Tian Ji are in their temples and content here, so Tian Xiang (water) reaching Yin is called prosperous, and Ju Men (water) reaching Mao is called flowing freely. Wood needs earth to cultivate it, with water added to irrigate it; it is even better if in the trine Wen Qu (water) and Po Jun (water) also meet it, and with Lu Cun (earth) added it is extremely fine.“Xing Yuan Lun” ›My Quan Shu (26 lines on this palace) ›

Where the chart lines up

Aviator, journalist and writer

As a young man Saint-Exupéry audited architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris for fifteen months; in the 1930s he was at once an aviator, a journalist and a writer, and also did publicity work for Air France, Aéropostale's successor. In his chart, the Life Palace holds Tan Lang (Ping). Tan Lang is the star of many talents that wants to try everything: one person holding several identities at once fits this star.

Station manager at Cape Juby in the Sahara

He flew the Toulouse–Dakar airmail route for Aéropostale, and later became station manager at the Cape Juby airfield in the Sahara, in Spanish Southern Morocco. The work included negotiating with Saharan tribes and rescuing downed pilots held captive; this dangerous assignment earned him his first Legion of Honour in 1930. In his chart, the Travel Palace holds Lian Zhen (Miao) and Lu Cun. The Travel Palace covers going away and being abroad, and Lu Cun is prosperity: recognition earned far from home matches this position.

Writing in a Property Palace decade

In 1934–1935 he wrote reports for Paris-Soir and other papers, travelling to Indochina, the Mediterranean and Moscow; in 1939 he published Wind, Sand and Stars, and The Little Prince, which he illustrated himself, was written in 1942 and published in early 1943. This period falls in the Decade Luck of the Property Palace (nominal ages 35–44); the palace has Wen Chang (Miao), and the decade's Wen Chang (Miao) takes Hua Ji (Transformation of Obstruction) back here. Wen Chang stands for writing, and Hua Ji is where attention goes, which lines up with the writing of this decade.
