Where the chart lines up
An engineer in the service of rulers
From 1482 to 1499 Leonardo worked in Milan for Duke Ludovico Sforza, and in 1502 he entered the service of Cesare Borgia as a military architect and engineer. In his chart, the Life Palace holds Tian Liang (Miao) with Hua Lu, forming Ji Yue Tong Liang, the Ji–Yue–Tong–Liang pattern of steady, methodical stars. This combination is often read as putting one's effort into a system or institution, which fits his working first for the Duke of Milan and then for Borgia.
Source ↗Reworking The Last Supper again and again
Leonardo painted The Last Supper from about 1495 to 1498, and not in one continuous push: so that he could revise it at any time, he avoided traditional fresco and painted tempera onto the wall, and the monastery complained about how slowly it was going. These years fall in the Decade Luck of the Career Palace (nominal ages 42–51), and the decade's Tian Tong (Ping) takes Hua Ji (Transformation of Obstruction) in the natal Career Palace, which is the decade's Life Palace. Hua Ji is where attention and effort go, and it lines up with his turning this painting over and over.
Source ↗Many pupils and imitators
A large circle of imitators and students gathered around Leonardo. Francesco Melzi, who became his pupil in 1506, is considered his favourite, and most of his notebooks later passed into Melzi's hands. In his chart, the Children Palace holds Zi Wei (Wang) with Hua Quan (Transformation of Power). The Children Palace also covers students and juniors; Zi Wei is the chart's ruling star and Hua Quan is weight. The palace of juniors carries real weight here, matching his many students and a pupil taking over his notebooks.
Source ↗A Travel Palace decade, from Rome to France
In September 1513 (nominal age 62), Leonardo went to Rome and lived in the Belvedere courtyard of the Vatican's Apostolic Palace; in 1516 King Francis I of France invited him to France and gave him the Clos Lucé manor near the royal Château d'Amboise. From nominal ages 62–71 he was in the Decade Luck of the Travel Palace, with the decade's Life Palace in his natal Travel Palace. The Travel Palace covers going out and leaving where one started: these years of moving from Italy to France line up with this decade.
