Counted from one chart for every day and double-hour, 1950–2009; not population data. Life Palace stars are spread almost the same for Gemini as for every other sign: about 8% for each of the 14 main stars and 16% empty (see all twelve signs).

Gemini has a reputation for quick wit, lots of conversation and interests that change fast, almost as if there were two people in one. In Zi Wei Dou Shu (Purple Star Astrology), that picture doesn't carry over. One Gemini can have steady Tian Fu in the Life Palace, another quiet Tai Yin, and a third no main star at all. What decides it is your birth hour and your lunar birth day.
The short version:
- Gemini starts at the solar term Grain Buds, so Gemini birthdays fall in the fourth or fifth lunar month, about half each.
- Across one chart for every day and every double-hour from 1950 to 2009, each of the fourteen main stars sits in a Gemini's Life Palace 8.3–8.4% of the time, and the palace is empty about 16.4% of the time. Other signs look the same.
- Your double-hour plus a fourth- or fifth-month birth fixes the Life Palace; the lunar day and the Five Elements Bureau decide the star inside.
- The form above casts your full chart, and the Life Palace star lookup answers just the star question.
What Gemini is in Zi Wei Dou Shu
Gemini starts at Grain Buds, the "middle" solar term of the fourth lunar month, so a Gemini birthday runs from Grain Buds in the fourth month on into the fifth. The two months split almost evenly: a Gemini born in the Zi hour has the Life Palace in Si (fourth month) about 50.4% of the time and in Wu (fifth month) about 49.6%.
Gemini's dates also hold a festival. Of the sixty Dragon Boat Festivals from 1950 to 2009, each on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, 51 landed in Gemini, the earliest on May 28. Only 9 came on June 22 or later, in Cancer. A Gemini born on the festival is always a fifth-month birth, so the hour alone fixes the Life Palace position: Wu for the Zi hour, Zi for the Wu hour, one palace off from a Gemini born in the fourth month at the same hour. Which star sits there still depends on the lunar day and the Bureau, and the overview walks through that part.
One day, twelve double-hours
Take one Gemini birthday: June 5, 1988, the twenty-first day of the fourth lunar month. Here is the Life Palace for each of the twelve hours that day:
| Double-hour | Life Palace | Main stars |
|---|---|---|
| Zi | Si | Tian Tong |
| Chou | Chen | Po Jun |
| Yin | Mao | Lian Zhen, Po Jun |
| Mao | Yin | Empty (borrows Tai Yang, Ju Men) |
| Chen | Chou | Tai Yang, Tai Yin |
| Si | Zi | Wu Qu, Tian Fu |
| Wu | Hai | Zi Wei, Qi Sha |
| Wei | Xu | Tian Ji, Tian Liang |
| Shen | You | Tai Yin |
| You | Shen | Zi Wei, Tian Fu |
| Xu | Wei | Tian Liang |
| Hai | Wu | Lian Zhen, Tian Xiang |
In a single day, twelve of the fourteen main stars take a turn in the Life Palace. Only Tan Lang and Ju Men miss out. Three hours side by side:
- Si hour: Wu Qu with Tian Fu. Wu Qu is the wealth star and judges things by results; Tian Fu is the treasury star, good at holding on and building up. People with this pair are practical and steady. They may not say much, but they work out the details before they commit.
- Shen hour: Tai Yin. Tai Yin people are sensitive and turned inward. They like quiet surroundings and look after the people close to them carefully, often without making a point of it.
- Chou hour: Po Jun. Po Jun people aren't afraid of change. When something isn't working, they would rather rebuild it from scratch, and they are often the first on a team to start changing things.
Three Geminis born on the same day: one careful and steadily building, one quiet and attentive, one ready to tear down and start again. None of them is the nonstop talker people picture when they hear "Gemini".
Common Zi Wei types among Geminis
Every main star has about the same chance of sitting in a Gemini's Life Palace. Here are three that make an interesting contrast with the usual Gemini picture.
Zi Wei in the Life Palace: a Gemini with a strong sense of direction. Zi Wei is the emperor star, with firm views and a habit of setting its own course. This Gemini still has plenty of interests, but there is one main thread underneath. The methods change; the goal mostly doesn't.
Tian Liang in the Life Palace: the old soul among Geminis. Tian Liang is a mature, protective star that likes to reason things through and think ahead. People expect Geminis to be playful, yet this type is often the friend everyone comes to for advice.
Tian Tong in the Life Palace: a Gemini in no hurry to fill the calendar. Tian Tong is the star of contentment, easygoing and keen on a comfortable life. Geminis are said to be always on the move. This type has just as many interests but feels no rush to chase all of them, and a whole weekend at home doing nothing sounds fine.
All three types have plenty of interests. What differs is what they do with them.

FAQ
What star is a Gemini in Zi Wei Dou Shu?
There isn't a fixed one. Your Life Palace star comes from your lunar birth day, your hour and your Five Elements Bureau, and the sun sign isn't part of that calculation. Across one chart for every day and double-hour from 1950 to 2009, each of the fourteen main stars sits in a Gemini's Life Palace 8.3–8.4% of the time, and the palace is empty about 16.4% of the time. Any star could be yours.
Is everyone born in the fourth lunar month a Gemini?
No. Gemini starts at Grain Buds, which falls inside the fourth lunar month. Anyone born in that month before Grain Buds is a Taurus, and only those born after it are Geminis. About half of Gemini birthdays also fall in the fifth lunar month. Lunar months and signs only line up roughly; your sign comes from your regular calendar birthday.
Geminis are said to have two sides. How does Zi Wei Dou Shu see that?
Zi Wei Dou Shu reads personality from the chart, not the sign. The Life Palace is you as you are; the Travel Palace opposite it shows how you come across out in the world and in unfamiliar settings. When the two hold different stars, a person can seem quite different at home and outside. Someone with an Empty Palace as the Life Palace is read through the stars opposite, and is often described as good at adjusting to the room. You only see this in your own chart.
Geminis are quick learners. Where does Zi Wei Dou Shu look at study and learning?
Three places come up most. Wen Chang and Wen Qu are the two stars of study, writing and eloquence. Their positions depend on your birth hour, and people with them in the Life or Career Palace are often described as learning easily. During school years, the Career Palace is also read for studies, and the palace that receives Hua Ke from your birth year is often linked with reputation and exams. All of these come from your hour and year, so Geminis don't get more of them; you need your own chart to see where they fall.
