Counted from one chart for every day and double-hour, 1950–2009; not population data. Life Palace stars are spread almost the same for Taurus as for every other sign: about 8% for each of the 14 main stars and 16% empty (see all twelve signs).

Taurus is usually pictured as steady, unhurried and loyal to what it knows: good food, a comfortable home, a clear sense of what money is for, and a decision that rarely changes once made. In Zi Wei Dou Shu (Purple Star Astrology), none of that points to one fixed star. One Taurus can have Tian Fu, the treasury star, in the Life Palace. Another can have Po Jun, a star that likes to tear things down and start over.
The short version:
- Taurus begins at the solar term Grain Rain, so most Taurus birthdays fall in the third or fourth lunar month.
- We cast a chart for every Taurus day and every double-hour from 1950 to 2009. Each of the fourteen main stars sits in the Life Palace 8.3–8.4% of the time, and the palace is empty about 16.5% of the time, almost exactly the same as the other eleven signs.
- The lunar month and your birth double-hour decide where the Life Palace sits. The lunar day and the Five Elements Bureau decide which star is in it.
- To find yours, cast a chart with the form on this page or use the Life Palace star lookup.
What Taurus is in Zi Wei Dou Shu
Taurus runs from Grain Rain to just before Grain Buds. Grain Rain is the "middle" solar term of the third lunar month and Grain Buds that of the fourth, so a Taurus birthday falls between Grain Rain in the third month and Grain Buds in the fourth. Born in the Zi hour (11 pm to 1 am), a third-month Taurus has the Life Palace in Chen and a fourth-month Taurus has it in Si, about 51.5% and 48.5% in the table.
This stretch of the year also meets leap months. A leap month is a lunar month with no middle term, so when an extra month slips in between Grain Rain and Grain Buds, it becomes a leap third month and lands almost entirely inside Taurus. That happened three times between 1950 and 2009: 1955, 1966 and 1993. In 1993 the leap third month ran from April 22 to May 20, every day of it Taurus. Schools handle leap months differently, and Xingge splits them at the 15th. Days 1 to 15 count as the third month, so a Zi-hour birth puts the Life Palace in Chen; from the 16th on they count as the fourth, and it moves to Si. Two people born in the same leap month can end up one palace apart. Why the sign can't tell you the star inside is covered in the overview.
One day, twelve double-hours
Take May 12, 1985, a Taurus birthday and the twenty-third day of the third lunar month. Cast one chart for each of its twelve double-hours and the Life Palace holds Qi Sha, Tian Tong, Tai Yang, Tai Yin, Wu Qu, Tian Fu, Ju Men, Tan Lang, Tian Liang, Tian Xiang, Tian Ji and Po Jun. Only Zi Wei and Lian Zhen are missing, and there is no Empty Palace that day. Three of those hours side by side:
- Zi hour, Life Palace in Chen: Qi Sha. Qi Sha is the general. It moves fast, acts once it has made up its mind, and doesn't like waiting for a go-ahead. That pace is a long way from the slow-and-steady Taurus people expect.
- Chen hour (7 to 9 am), Life Palace in Zi: Wu Qu with Tian Fu. Wu Qu rules money and Tian Fu the treasury. People with this pair are practical, good at saving, and work out the cost before they spend. The careful-with-money Taurus image fits this chart best.
- Wu hour, Life Palace in Xu: Tan Lang. Tan Lang has many interests and a lot of curiosity, and enjoys meeting new people and trying new things. It likes comfort too, but the comfort it wants comes from novelty, the opposite of settling into the familiar.
In less than half a day the Life Palace goes from someone who charges ahead, to someone who keeps the books, to someone who wants to explore. The Bureaus differ as well: Metal 4 for the Zi hour, Fire 6 for Chen, Earth 5 for Wu. The sign only fixes the date. The hour decides which palace you sit in.
Common Zi Wei types among Taurus people
Every main star shows up in Taurus about as often as the others, roughly one chart in twelve each. Here are three that sit furthest from the usual Taurus picture.
Taurus with Po Jun in the Life Palace. Po Jun likes to open new ground, and once an old way of doing things wears thin, it wants to replace the whole thing. This Taurus is not necessarily attached to the old. Changing jobs, moving house or switching fields can come easier to them than to the people around them. Calm on the outside, already thinking about the next step on the inside.
Taurus with Tian Ji in the Life Palace. Tian Ji thinks fast, has plenty of ideas, and revises plans again and again. Before deciding, this person runs through every scenario, which can look like hesitation but is really weighing options. "Stubborn Taurus" doesn't describe a Tian Ji very well.
Taurus with Ju Men in the Life Palace. Ju Men is a star of speech. It asks until it gets to the bottom of things, speaks plainly, and points out what doesn't add up on the spot. Taurus has a quiet, easygoing reputation, yet a Ju Men Taurus is often the one asking the most questions in the meeting.
With these three stars, words like steady and set in their ways need a second look.

FAQ
What star is Taurus in Zi Wei Dou Shu?
No star is tied to Taurus. Among Taurus birthdays, each of the fourteen main stars sits in the Life Palace 8.3–8.4% of the time and the palace is empty about 16.5% of the time, the same as every other sign. Your own star depends on your lunar birth day and double-hour.
Which is more accurate, astrology or Zi Wei Dou Shu?
They look at different things, so they don't compete. Astrology looks at where your birthday falls along the ecliptic and describes traits shared by people born in the same stretch of weeks. Zi Wei Dou Shu uses the lunar date plus the hour and reads which stars sit in each of your twelve palaces. You can use both for what each does well.
Taurus cares about money. Where does Zi Wei Dou Shu look for wealth?
Mainly at the stars in the Wealth Palace, and then at how the Life Palace and Career Palace work with it. The Wealth Palace is also placed by the hour, not by your sign. To see how you tend to earn and save, try the money tool.
Do Taurus twins born on the same day have the same chart?
If they were born in different double-hours, their Life Palaces sit in different palaces and the main stars can be completely different, as with the Zi and Wu hours of May 12, 1985 above. If they were born in the same double-hour, the chart is the same, and the differences come from how each one grows up and the choices each one makes.
