What Peak means
Peak is the prime of life, when stamina, experience and confidence are all at their height; it is the strongest of the twelve stages. Because it is the top, what follows is a gradual turn inward. The classics say that what reaches its fullest begins to wane, which is a note about rhythm, not a warning.
Where it falls for each Day Master
Jia Wood in Mao, Yi Wood in Yin, Bing Fire in Wu, Ding Fire in Si, Wu Earth in Wu, Ji Earth in Si, Geng Metal in You, Xin Metal in Shen, Ren Water in Zi, Gui Water in Hai.
Peak on your Day branch
With the Day Master sitting on Peak, people often describe you as confident, decisive and full of drive, willing to take things on and make the call. You have a strong presence, and others naturally look to you for the decision. The thing to watch is that so much strength can turn rigid, making it hard to take in other views; learning to hold some force in reserve works better than going all out every time.
On the Year, Month and Hour pillars
On the Year pillar, it is often read as a family with strong energy, or a forceful elder in the household. On the Month pillar, work tends to suit a leading role, and you are often pushed into positions of responsibility. On the Hour pillar, it is traditionally read as staying energetic and opinionated in later years, with children of strong character.
A tip
Peak has energy to spare. Pick the one thing that matters most and give it everything, and let others handle the rest.
FAQ
Is Peak the best of the twelve stages?
Peak is the strongest, which is not the same as the best. Bazi is about balance: if the chart already runs strong, another Peak makes it overfull and calls for outlets to ease it, while in a weak chart Peak is excellent support.
Which Day pillars sit on Peak?
Six of the sixty pillars do: Bing Wu, Wu Wu, Ren Zi, Ding Si, Ji Si and Gui Hai. Bing Wu, Wu Wu and Ren Zi are yang stems on Peak, which tradition calls "Day Blade" pillars: the strength is especially concentrated, and the temperament tends to be direct and driven.
Why does Decline come right after Peak?
The twelve stages are a cycle, and once strength peaks it turns toward consolidation, the way high summer gives way to autumn. Decline is not loss; it is the shift from pushing outward to settling inward.
