Where the chart lines up

Known for his wit in company

Degas believed that "the artist must live alone, and his private life must remain unknown", and he lived an outwardly uneventful life; in company, though, he was known for his wit. In his chart, the Body Palace falls in the Wealth Palace, which holds Ju Men (Wang). Ju Men stands for the mouth and speaking, and in the Wang position the words come out, and come out with force, which fits the wit he was known for in company.

Showing the Little Dancer in 1881

At the sixth Impressionist exhibition in 1881, Degas showed the wax figure Little Dancer Aged Fourteen, with real hair and a cloth tutu; the critic J.-K. Huysmans wrote that "with his first attempt Monsieur Degas has revolutionized the traditions of sculpture". In his chart this period falls in the Decade Luck for nominal ages 44–53 (1877–1886), with the decade's Life Palace in his natal Career Palace, and the decade's Tian Ji (Xian) with Hua Ke (Transformation of Fame) returns to it. Hua Ke is reputation and being seen, which matches the attention this work drew in this decade.

Leading the Impressionist exhibitions

From 1874 to 1886 the Impressionists held eight group exhibitions; Degas took a leading role in organizing them, showed in all but one, and insisted on bringing in non-Impressionist painters such as Forain and Raffaëlli. In his chart, the Friends Palace holds Zi Wei (Wang). The Friends Palace covers friends and companions, and Zi Wei is the chart's ruling star, the one that leads and makes the calls, which lines up with his taking the lead in organizing shows among these painters.

Painting indoors in the studio

By the time he finished secondary school in 1853, Degas had turned a room in his home into a studio. He painted indoors, preferring to work in the studio from memory, photographs or live models, and even his few landscapes were done from memory or imagination. In his chart, the Property Palace holds Po Jun (Miao) with Hua Quan (Transformation of Power). The Property Palace covers the home and the house, and Hua Quan is having the lead; the studio was the place where he was in charge, which fits this way of working.
