Source ↗A 1928 film makes her the top box-office star
Profits from A Woman of Affairs, released at the end of 1928 (nominal age 24) with John Gilbert as her co-star, made her MGM's top box-office star of the 1928–1929 season, displacing the long-reigning silent queen Lillian Gish. In the annual Four Transformations of 1928, You Bi takes Hua Ke (Transformation of Fame) into her natal Career Palace. Hua Ke stands for reputation and being seen, and in the Career Palace it means being seen through work, as this film took her to the top of the box office.
Source ↗The more she hid, the more she was publicized
In spite of her strenuous efforts to avoid publicity, Garbo became one of the twentieth century's most publicized women; MGM later capitalised on it, building up her image as a silent, reclusive woman of mystery. Among her birth-year transformations, Zi Wei (Wang) with Hua Ke falls in the Travel Palace. The Travel Palace stands for how one appears out in the world; Zi Wei is the chart's ruling star, and Hua Ke is reputation. She drew inward while her fame outside kept growing, which lines up with this position.
Source ↗Collecting paintings from the 1940s
