Your 2027 Yearly Life Palace and Career Palace: All 12 Yearly Palaces

In 2027, everyone's yearly Life Palace is the Wei box of their chart. The yearly Career Palace is the Hai box, the yearly Wealth Palace is the Mao box, and the yearly Spouse Palace is the Si box. These are set by the branch of the Ding Wei year, not by your birthday, so they're the same for everyone.

What differs from person to person is the next step: which palace the Wei box already is on your own chart, and which stars live there. Below is the full table first, then how to read it on top of your natal chart. If you'd rather find each box yourself step by step, see How to Check Your 2027 Year on Your Own Chart.

The 12 yearly palaces in 2027

The yearly Life Palace lands on the box with the year's branch. The other eleven follow counterclockwise from it, which means counting the branches backward: Wei, Wu, Si, Chen and so on, around to Shen.

Don't read the yearly Life Palace from the Wei box alone. Read it with its San Fang Si Zheng, the box opposite plus the two in its trines: Wei, Mao, Hai and Chou. These are the yearly Life, Wealth, Career and Travel Palaces. In 2027, your work, your money and how you come across are tied into one group from the start.

If the Wei box has no main star, borrow the main stars from the Chou box opposite. The details are in Empty Life Palace in 2027.

Yearly Career Palace in Hai: reading work in 2027

If you're looking for your 2027 Career Palace, look for the Hai box on your chart. There are three layers to read.

The first is who lives in Hai. The main stars set the tone of the year's work. A star that likes to plan points the year toward thinking things through and adjusting; a steady, conserving star points toward making what's already in your hands solid.

The second is which natal palace Hai is for you. It's the yearly Career Palace either way, but if Hai is your natal Wealth Palace, work this year is often tied directly to income. If Hai is your natal Fortune Palace, work stirs your mood and interests, and whether you enjoy it matters more than usual. The next section has a lookup table.

The third is how it relates to the yearly Life Palace. Hai and Wei are in a trine, so the yearly Career Palace is already part of the yearly Life Palace's San Fang Si Zheng. Wherever your focus is this year, work gets touched along with it.

If the Hai box has no main star, borrow from across the chart, the same as for the yearly Life Palace. The box opposite Hai is Si, which is the yearly Spouse Palace. Borrowed stars read a little fainter, and the tone of work this year often moves with the people you work closely with and with your partner's situation. Look at the minor stars and transformations in Hai too.

When is Hai also your natal Career Palace? Only when your natal Life Palace is in Wei. Then Wei is both your natal and yearly Life Palace, and Hai is both your natal and yearly Career Palace. The two layers' career palaces sit in the same box, and work is clearly the theme of the year.

All of this is about which part of life you'll feel more this year, not whether work gets better or worse. Understand your natal Career Palace first, and the year has something to measure against.

Yearly Wealth Palace in Mao, yearly Spouse Palace in Si

The same reading works for money and love:

• Yearly Wealth Palace in Mao: look at the main stars in the Mao box and which natal palace it is for you. Mao is also in the yearly Life Palace's San Fang Si Zheng, so in 2027 money is connected to the year's focus.
• Yearly Spouse Palace in Si: look at the Si box. Si is not in the yearly Life Palace's San Fang Si Zheng, so whether love takes centre stage this year depends on which natal palace Si is for you and whether a Ding year transformation lands there.

People with a partner and people without one read the yearly Spouse Palace from different angles. If you have a partner, look at the rhythm between you; if you don't, look at what you want from a relationship this year. The yearly Spouse Palace also covers long-term working partners, not only romance.

Reading the natal and yearly palaces together

Every box carries two names at once: its natal palace name and its 2027 yearly palace name. Reading the two together is called layering. For example, if Wei is your natal Career Palace, it is also the yearly Life Palace, which reads as "this year, my focus is on work."

Once you know which branch your natal Life Palace is in, you can look up which palace each of the four boxes Wei, Hai, Mao and Si is for you:

An example: Life Palace in Mao

With the natal Life Palace in Mao, the twelve natal palaces run counterclockwise: Life in Mao, Siblings in Yin, Spouse in Chou, Children in Zi, Wealth in Hai, Health in Xu, Travel in You, Friends in Shen, Career in Wei, Property in Wu, Fortune in Si, Parents in Chen.

Now lay 2027 on top:

• Wei is the natal Career Palace and the yearly Life Palace: this year, your focus is on work.
• Hai is the natal Wealth Palace and the yearly Career Palace: work is tied directly to income. Freelance projects, sales and anything paid on results tend to feel especially strong.
• Mao is the natal Life Palace and the yearly Wealth Palace: this year, how you think about money comes back to what you yourself want.
• Si is the natal Fortune Palace and the yearly Spouse Palace: how love goes is closely bound up with your mood and quality of life.

For someone with the Life Palace in You, the whole picture changes. Wei is the natal Spouse Palace, so the year's focus is on relationships. Hai is the natal Fortune Palace, so work stirs your mood. Mao is the natal Travel Palace, so money matters often involve going out, being away or being on the move.

If your natal Life Palace is in Wei, 2027 is the year the cycle comes home to your Life Palace. A line in the Quan Shu's passage on the yearly cycle says, roughly: when the year arrives at the Life Palace, its good and bad are felt most strongly. When the year reaches your natal Life Palace, both the good and the hard parts show more clearly, and that comes around once every twelve years. One side note: being born in a Goat year and having your Life Palace in Wei are two different things. Your zodiac animal comes from your birth year; your Life Palace comes from your birth month and hour.

One layer further: Decade Luck and Minor Luck

The yearly palace moves one box a year and is the same box for everyone. Decade Luck moves one box every ten years by age and is different for each person; Minor Luck moves one box per year of age. The reading order is natal chart, then decade, then year. If the yearly box also happens to be your decade's Life Palace, the two layers point at the same place and the year's theme is especially clear. How Decade Luck is laid out is in the Decade Luck lesson, and how the three layers stack is in the layering lesson. Switch your chart to the 2027 yearly layer and each box shows its yearly palace name and the layered reading. Start by drawing your chart.

Which layer the Ding year transformations belong to

The Ding year transformations are Tai Yin with Hua Lu, Tian Tong with Hua Quan, Tian Ji with Hua Ke and Ju Men with Hua Ji. A transformation attaches to a star, and where the star sits is set by your natal chart, so the box each transformed star lands in also carries both a natal and a yearly palace name.

Read the two names together. Suppose Ju Men sits in the Zi box on your chart and your Life Palace is in Mao. Zi is your natal Children Palace and the yearly Friends Palace. Ju Men with Hua Ji there reads as: this year, words with friends and colleagues are easily misread, and that spills over to the younger people, students or collaborators you work with. The same Ju Men with Hua Ji on a different chart carries a different pair of palace names and a different story.

How each of the four transformed stars reads in each palace is covered in four separate notes: Ju Men Hua Ji by palace, Tian Ji Hua Ke by palace, Tai Yin Hua Lu by palace and Tian Tong Hua Quan by palace. What each transformation means on its own is in 2027 Four Transformations.

When 2027 starts

Zi Wei Dou Shu changes year by the lunar calendar. The 2027 Lunar New Year falls on February 6, 2027, and only from that day does the yearly Life Palace move to Wei. From January 1 to February 5, 2027, it still counts as the 2026 Bing Wu year: the yearly Life Palace is in Wu and the transformations are still the Bing year's. The switch is not at Li Chun, the start of spring, and not on January 1.
