Qian (The Creative)
Pure yang strength that keeps moving like the sky itself. It is about a rising force, and about knowing when to stay hidden and when to make your move.
Cast your own hexagramQian (The Creative) carries a lot of energy. It favors taking the initiative, starting things and carrying weight. But the six lines are all about timing: work out where you stand right now, stay low when it's time to stay low, fly when it's time to fly, and know when to stop once you reach the top.
Favorable
- Go after what you want
- Commit for the long haul
- Share the load with partners
- Stop once you reach the top
Avoid
- Fighting to the bitter end
- Making every call alone
- Moving before the time is right
- Running yourself into the ground
Work and money
- Job search
- Aim higher: send the applications, put your hand up for the project you want. Just be honest about which line you're on. If you're new to the field, build first rather than asking for the manager's chair in month one.
- Business
- Qian (The Creative) has the drive to found something, and it suits you being the one who sets the direction. With six solid lines and nothing to soften them, though, you need a partner who knows when to hit the brakes.
- Money
- Build steadily according to a plan, or invest in your own skills. A run of easy wins is not a reason to pile in more.
Love and people
- Single
- You have a lot going for you and the nerve to make the first move. Asking someone out plainly tends to work better than dropping hints. Try not to turn dating into a contest you have to win.
- In a relationship
- Two strong people can end up running two separate households. The All nines line says a flock of dragons with no leader brings good fortune: talk big decisions through together instead of both reaching for the final word.
- Getting back together
- You can reach out first, but bring something that has actually changed. Force of personality rarely wins anyone back. If there's no reply, stop there. The top line's dragon that flies too high has regret, and chasing tends to widen the gap.
- People and partnerships
- In a team full of capable people, no one needs to be the only head. Take turns leading and share the credit freely. That's what keeps good people around you.
Daily life
- Exams and study
- Tireless strength suits long exam prep, like a licensing or bar exam, and a high target is realistic. Don't burn out with all-nighters in the last week, though. Save energy for the final stretch.
- Moving and travel
- Moving and travel both tend to go smoothly, especially toward somewhere bigger and more open. You can handle a packed itinerary. Just don't rush so hard you arrive exhausted.
- Body and mind
- Plenty of energy, but it's easy to overspend it and hard to switch off at night. Be active by day, wind down by evening, and keep a stretch of time that's truly empty. If your body is telling you something is off, see a doctor.
Traditional questions
- Something you are waiting for
- Likely to come, but mostly because you push it along. The Image has heaven moving without rest, and staying in motion yourself tends to get results much faster than sitting and waiting.
- Disputes and lawsuits
- Your position holds up, so argue it on the merits. Once the other side starts giving ground, take the win. Pushing them to the wall is how regret gets in.
- Lost things and people
- Likely to be found, but you'll have to go looking. Check high places, near round or metal objects, or somewhere linked to an older relative or your boss. Qian (Heaven) stands for the sky, roundness and metal.
Making a decision
Leaning yes, and it suits you to be the one who moves first. The condition is doing it straight, not by cutting corners or gambling.
If you are…
Wants to know whether the next step up is realistic. Qian (The Creative) leans yes, but asks which line you're on. Right now it's the dragon appearing in the field: get the team running smoothly and let your work be seen, then talk about what comes next.
Qian (The Creative) gives you the energy to act, but the outcome depends on preparation. Work out your cash runway and a fallback first, then go all in. Once things take off, bring someone in to share the weight.
This is the reading when no line is changing. With changing lines, Zhu Xi’s method says which line to read, and the result page after a casting tells you directly.
Great success. It pays to stay steadfast.
Qian (The Creative) is Heaven over Heaven: the Qian trigram doubled, all six lines solid. Qian is the sky, which turns a full circle every day and never stops. So the image of this hexagram is strength that does not tire.
Nine at the beginning
A hidden dragon, still under the water. Do not act.
The timing isn't right yet, and your strength is still building. Pushing to be seen now would waste the effort. Put the time into skill and groundwork.
Small Image:
Nine in the second place
The dragon appears in the field. It pays to see the great person.
People are starting to notice you. Reach out to someone who can open doors and go after a real platform. That does more than keeping your head down.
Small Image:
Nine in the third place
The noble person works hard all day and stays watchful and wary into the night. Danger, but no blame.
Heavy pressure, big responsibility, an awkward position. The text calls it dangerous, yet steady work by day and honest review at night is what keeps you clear of mistakes. This line is about getting through, not easing off.
Small Image:
Nine in the fourth place
The dragon may leap up, or it may stay in the deep. No blame.
You're at the edge, deciding whether to jump. Try the leap, and if it doesn't hold, step back. There is room either way, so this doesn't have to be all or nothing.
Small Image:
Nine in the fifth place
The flying dragon is in the sky. It pays to see the great person.
The best place in the whole hexagram: ability, timing and position have all lined up. Go for it fully, and make sure you are working with the right people.
Small Image:
Nine at the top
The dragon that has flown too high. There will be regret.
You've reached the peak, and pushing higher tends to bring only regret. Think about easing off, making room for others or handing things on, not doubling down.
Small Image:
All nines
A flock of dragons appears, and none of them puts itself at the head. Good fortune.
When every line of Qian (The Creative) changes: if everyone in the room is strong, things tend to go best when no one grabs the top spot. Strength paired with a willingness to yield is what keeps things moving.
Small Image:
Vast indeed is the origin in Qian (The Creative). All things owe their beginning to it, and it governs the whole of heaven. Clouds move and rain falls, and each thing takes its own form. Seeing clearly how things run from start to finish, the six positions each come into being at their proper time, like riding six dragons across the sky in due season. As the way of Qian changes and transforms, each thing finds its true nature and its allotted course, and holds on to the greatest harmony. That is what steadfastness pays for. It rises above all things, and so the whole world is at peace.
The Image
Heaven moves with tireless strength. Seeing this, the noble person keeps making themselves stronger and never lets up.
The Sequence: why it comes here有天地,然後萬物生焉。
First there are heaven and earth, and only then do all things come into being. Qian (The Creative) and Kun (The Receptive) are the start of everything, so they come first in the sequence.
Miscellaneous Notes
Qian (The Creative) is firm and Kun (The Receptive) is yielding. Qian's character is firmness and strength, the exact counterpart to Kun's gentleness and receptivity.
