Stars
Lian Zhen NatureCool outside and warm within, you have principles and real charm. You do best when your passion goes into the right things.
Qi Sha NatureYou have drive and nerve, the boldness of the General Star. Before you charge ahead, know your way back.
ImpatienceUnder pressure, your temper gets quicker and sharper. Pause for a beat before you answer, and trouble drops by half.
Lian Zhen With Qi ShaClassical texts say Qi Sha sharing a palace with Lian Zhen points to losing one's life on the road. Today, it means putting traffic and travel safety first, and choosing to be a little late over rushing.“Tai Wei Fu”
With Qing YangClassical texts say Lian Zhen together with Qing Yang means disputes every day. Today, it means conflicts multiply when your temper flares, so cool things down a degree before you speak or act.“The Nature of Lian Zhen”
Origin PalaceWhat you care about most is becoming who you want to be, and you give your all only to what you chose. When stuck, ask yourself whether you really want it.
Life Master Wu QuDeep down you are practical and hardworking, and you believe only results count. Leave some room for feelings too. Your Life Master sits in your Career Palace, so your thoughts often circle around work.
Patterns
Sha Po Lang (Killings, Breaker, Wolf)Your Life Palace sits on the Sha Po Lang line: life moves in big swings and you rarely sit still. Change is your fuel, but always leave yourself a way back.Classic pattern
Helpful TrinesSan Fang Si Zheng brings in Wen Qu, Tian Kui and Wen Chang: you have help and resources in your own life, more than this palace alone suggests.
This part follows the Flying Star school: where this palace's stem sends its transformations. It is a different method from the classical reading above.
Lu to HealthThe palace stem sends Tai Yin Hua Lu into your Health Palace: the effort you put in here tends to pay off in body and mind.
Ji to ChildrenThe palace stem sends Ju Men Hua Ji into your Children Palace: when it comes to your own affairs, your concern often ends up with children and younger people.

The Life Palace is about: Who you are at the core: your temperament and innate makeup. Every chart reading starts here.

Where the chart lines up

Outgrowing his brother's lessons in months

Schubert's brother Ignaz taught him piano, and within a few months he said he no longer needed lessons and would find his own way from then on; Ignaz admitted that his younger brother had left him far behind. His Life Palace holds Qi Sha (Miao). Qi Sha is a star that stands on its own and strikes out alone, at its strongest in the Miao position. That lines up with his wanting to work things out for himself so early.

The 1821 Erlkönig concert

In March 1821 (nominal age 25), the baritone Vogl sang Schubert's Erlkönig at a concert. The response was enthusiastic, and his situation improved somewhat as a result. In the annual Four Transformations of 1821, Wen Qu (Wang) takes Hua Ke (Transformation of Fame) and enters his natal Career Palace. Wen Qu stands for artistic talent and Hua Ke for reputation and being seen; in the Career Palace, that means being noticed for his work. That lines up with the song's warm reception at the concert.

Teaching the youngest pupils at his father's school

In 1814 Schubert entered his father's school as teacher of the youngest pupils; in 1815 he was still teaching there and also gave private music lessons, earning enough to buy clothes, manuscript paper, pens and ink. In his chart, the birth-year Ju Men (Xian) with Hua Ji (Transformation of Obstruction) falls in the Children Palace. The Children Palace also covers juniors and students, and Hua Ji marks where effort and thought must go. It is worth setting side by side with these years of teaching the smallest pupils in the classroom.
