His first modern house in 1926
After the First World War, Mies kept designing neoclassical houses while working on experimental ideas on the side. In 1926 he built the Wolf House in Guben for Erich and Elisabeth Wolf, his first modernist house. In his chart, the Decade Luck for nominal ages 33–42 (1918–1927) puts the decade's Life Palace in his natal Property Palace, an Empty Palace. The Property Palace is often read as houses and homes; it is worth setting side by side with a decade that took him from traditional houses to his first modern one.

In 1928 Mies was commissioned to build Germany's official pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition, working with the interior designer Lilly Reich. The exposition opened in May 1929 (nominal age 44), and the pavilion is counted among his masterpieces and among the finest examples of International Style architecture. In the annual Four Transformations of 1929, Tian Liang (Miao) takes Hua Ke (Transformation of Fame) and enters his natal Life Palace. Hua Ke stands for reputation and being seen, which lines up with this building's debut at the exposition.
Source ↗Training students to carry on his principles
Mies headed the architecture department at the Illinois Institute of Technology and placed great weight on training architects who could carry on his design principles, putting a great deal of time and effort into the department. He worked out prototype schemes in depth himself, then had students at the school and in his office develop them into designs for individual projects under his guidance. His Friends Palace holds Lian Zhen (Ping) with Hua Ji (Transformation of Obstruction). The Friends Palace is often read as subordinates and the people who work under one, and Hua Ji marks where thought and effort go. The two can be read together.
