Careful dress and bearing
Ravel dressed like a dandy and was meticulous about his appearance and demeanour; the musicologist Arbie Orenstein said he had the "appearance of a well-dressed jockey". In his chart, the Body Palace falls in the Spouse Palace, which holds Tian Xiang (Miao). Tian Xiang is often read as dignity, dress and outward bearing, and the Miao position is where it is strongest; his care over his appearance is worth setting side by side with this star.
Source ↗A new music society in 1910
In 1910 (nominal age 36), Ravel and several other former pupils of Fauré set up the Société Musicale Indépendante, a more modernist organisation distinct from the Société Nationale, which was dominated by a conservative faction; Fauré became its president, and its inaugural concert on 20 April included the premiere of the original piano-duet version of his Ma mère l'Oye. In the annual Four Transformations of 1910, Wu Qu (Li) takes Hua Quan (Transformation of Power) into his natal Life Palace. Hua Quan is taking the lead and making one's own decisions, which lines up with his starting afresh with his peers that year.
Source ↗Moving to a country house in 1921
Finding city life fatiguing, Ravel moved in May 1921 to Le Belvédère, a small house on the fringe of Montfort-l'Amaury, 50 kilometres west of Paris, where he was looked after by a devoted housekeeper; when not performing in Paris or abroad, he composed and gardened there. His chart shows Tian Ji (Miao) with Hua Lu (Transformation of Wealth) in the Property Palace. The Property Palace stands for the home, and Hua Lu is ease and good fortune, which lines up with his settling into this house.
Source ↗Regarded as France's greatest living composer
In the 1920s and 1930s Ravel was internationally regarded as France's greatest living composer. In 1928 he made a four-month tour of North America, and at an all-Ravel concert in New York the whole audience rose to applaud as soon as he took his seat. His chart shows Zi Wei (Miao) with Hua Ke (Transformation of Fame) in the Career Palace. The Career Palace stands for career, and Hua Ke is reputation and being seen, which fits the standing he earned as a composer.
