Wealth Palace
The Complete Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu, Volume 2: Placing the stars and the twelve palaces · Original text with translation
Introduction
This chapter comes from the palace-by-palace verdicts in volume two of the Complete Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu and covers the Wealth Palace: where a person's money comes from, and whether it gathers or scatters.
The layout is the same as for the other palaces, one entry per star, with some main stars split over two segments where the base text breaks the line. Each entry first gives the star's fortune in the Wealth Palace: 「豐足倉箱」 (full granaries and chests), 「白手生財」 (wealth made from nothing), 「鬧中求取」 (earned amid bustle), 「勞心費力」 (hard-won by mind and body); then what changes with each main star sharing the palace; and finally what Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong or Di Jie bring, mostly 「成敗」 (rise and fall), 「不聚」 (money that does not gather) or 「東來西去」 (coming in from the east and going out to the west). The order is the fourteen main stars, Wen Chang and Wen Qu, Zuo Fu and You Bi, Lu Cun, Qing Yang and Tuo Luo, Huo Xing and Ling Xing, Tian Kui and Tian Yue, and finally the Dou Jun.
Common words:
- 倉箱: granaries and chests; 「豐足倉箱」 means granaries full of money and grain.
- 鬧中生財, 鬧中求取: making money amid noise, competition and constant hustle.
- 橫發橫破: sudden wealth followed by sudden loss.
- 東來西去: money that comes in from the east and goes out to the west, and never stays.
- 九流人: people of every trade, the 'nine streams' of society.
The base text has a few miswritten characters: the 玫 in 「玫大富」 should be 致; 「陷宮破不祖聚」 probably has two characters swapped (破祖不聚); and the 將 in 「陷地將同陀火鈴」 is probably 羊. The text notes explain each one.
TranslationZi Wei in the Wealth Palace: plenty, granaries and chests full. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong or Di Jie added, not prosperous. With Po Jun, hard at first and easy later; with Tian Xiang, wealth is saved up;
- Granaries and chests: money and grain.
The Wealth Palace is one of the Life Palace's trines: the Life, Wealth and Career Palaces form a triangle, so the stars of the Wealth Palace are always within the Life Palace's San Fang Si Zheng, and anyone reading the Life Palace has already seen them. Zi Wei in the Wealth Palace is 「豐足倉箱」: with the emperor star managing the money, it is looked after and planned. With Po Jun (Chou, Wei), hard first and easy later; with Tian Xiang (Chen, Xu), savings. The palace opposite the Wealth Palace is always the Fortune Palace, so how one earns and how one enjoys it mirror each other. See Zi Wei in the Wealth Palace.
Translation(Zi Wei) with Tian Fu: wealthy all one's life, and able to keep it. With Zuo Fu and You Bi added, an official in charge of wealth. With Qi Sha and lucky stars added, a sudden windfall.
- Sudden wealth that arrives with force.
Zi Wei with Tian Fu (Yin, Shen): wealthy and careful all one's life; with Zuo Fu and You Bi, 「財富之官」, an official who manages money, read today as a finance director or an asset manager. Zi Wei with Qi Sha (Si, Hai) and lucky stars, 「橫發」: Qi Sha's drive on top of Zi Wei's stature makes the money come hard and fast. Zi Wei with Tian Fu plays defense and Zi Wei with Qi Sha plays offense: the same Zi Wei, two completely different styles with money. The first suits steady investing; the second suits starting a business, or high-risk, high-return ventures.
TranslationTian Ji in the Wealth Palace: wealth made with toil of mind and body. With Ju Men, sought amid bustle; with Tian Liang, clever schemes bring income from outside; with Tai Yin, in a Xian palace, rise and fall. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong or Di Jie added, rises and falls all one's life.
- Seeking money amid noise, competition and hustle.
- Schemes, stratagems.
Tian Ji in the Wealth Palace, 「勞心費力生財」: money earned by brainwork, not collected while sitting still. With Ju Men (Mao, You), 「鬧中求取」: earning in busy, competitive places such as markets, media and sales. With Tian Liang (Chen, Xu), 「機關巧計生外財」: extra income from planning, consulting and expert advice. With Tai Yin, rise and fall in a Xian palace; but Tian Ji and Tai Yin share a palace in Yin and Shen, where Tai Yin is Wang in Yin and Li in Shen, so the 'Xian palace' more likely refers to some other reckoning of brightness. See Tian Ji in the Wealth Palace.
TranslationTai Yang in the Wealth Palace: in its temple, plenty; in a Xian palace, toil without success. With Tai Yin plus lucky stars such as Zuo Fu and You Bi, no small fortune; with Lu Cun, wealth gained through care and worry, leading to great riches; with Ju Men, rise and fall in early years, and not yet abundant in middle age.
Textual note: The 玫 in 「玫大富」 should be 致, 'leading to'.
Tai Yang in its temple: plenty; in a Xian palace: toil without success. Tai Yang in the Wealth Palace earns by 'giving first, receiving after': first the effort and the exposure, and the money follows. With Tai Yin (Chou, Wei) and lucky stars, no small fortune; with Lu Cun, great wealth through care; with Ju Men (Yin, Shen), ups and downs in early years. The Tai Yang chapter says it is 「最宜在官祿宮」, best in the Career Palace; in the Wealth Palace it earns only after labor. In today's world, reputation comes before profit, and earning through a personal brand suits it. See Tai Yang in the Wealth Palace.
TranslationWu Qu in the Wealth Palace: plenty; with a favorable transformation, family wealth in the tens of thousands; without lucky stars, money comes in amid bustle. With Po Jun, money comes from the east and goes to the west, nothing at first and something later. With Tian Xiang, abundant wealth; meeting a noble helper, wealth is made and a household founded;
- A favorable transformation: Hua Lu, Hua Quan or Hua Ke.
- Money comes from the east and goes out to the west: it never stays.
Wu Qu is the lord of wealth and most at home in its own palace. Wu Qu takes Hua Lu (Transformation of Wealth) in Ji years, Hua Quan in Geng years and Hua Ke in Jia years, and any of these in the Wealth Palace means a great fortune. Without lucky stars, 「鬧中進財」. With Po Jun (Si, Hai), 「東來西去,先無後有」: the wealth star meets the star of waste, and big sums go both ways. With Tian Xiang (Yin, Shen), abundance, and wealth through a benefactor. Wu Qu takes Hua Ji in Ren years, and then the wealth star itself is obstructed, and money becomes the main source of worry. See Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace.
Translation(Wu Qu) with Qi Sha: wealth made and a household founded from nothing. With Tan Lang, wealth only after thirty. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing or Ling Xing added, money does not gather; it fears the void most of all.
- 'After thirty years'; usually read as after the age of thirty.
- The void: stars of emptiness such as Xun Kong and Jie Kong.
Wu Qu with Qi Sha (Mao, You): wealth and a household built with one's own hands, with no inheritance behind it. Wu Qu with Tan Lang (Chou, Wei): 「三十年後方發財」. The Gu Sui Fu puts it as 「貪武墓中居,三十才發福」 (Gu Sui Fu), the Quan Shu's most quoted verdict of late success. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing or Ling Xing, money does not gather, and 「極怕空亡」: what a wealth star fears most is falling into the void, and later writers list broken patterns such as Lu Feng Xun Kong. The years before thirty are mostly for building up, with no need to rush for results.
TranslationTian Tong in the Wealth Palace: wealth made from nothing, prospering late. With Ju Men, wealth comes and goes; with Tian Liang, great prosperity; with the four malefic stars, Di Kong or Di Jie added, or as one of the people of the nine streams, wealth is made and a household founded.
- People of the 'nine streams': every trade and walk of life.
Tian Tong in the Wealth Palace, 「白手生財晚發」: Tian Tong's blessings often come bitter first and sweet later. With Ju Men (Chou, Wei), wealth comes and goes, since both stars are weak there; with Tian Liang (Yin, Shen), great prosperity. With malefic stars, or 「九流人生財成家」: the nine streams are all manner of trades, which the old world ranked high and low; today it reads as making a good living outside the mainstream. Tian Tong does not get rich by working itself to the bone; time and goodwill do the work. See Tian Tong in the Wealth Palace.
TranslationLian Zhen in the Wealth Palace: in the Shen or Yin palace, wealth made amid bustle; in a Xian palace, hard at first and easy later. With Tan Lang, sudden gains and sudden losses; seeing Qing Yang and Huo Xing, it brings windfall money in great measure,
- Sudden wealth, then sudden loss.
Lian Zhen in Yin or Shen (alone, in its temple): money made amid bustle. In Yin and Shen, Lian Zhen faces Tan Lang across the chart, so money comes through socializing and competition. In a Xian palace (Si, Hai, with Tan Lang), hard first and easy later; with Tan Lang, 「橫發橫破」: two stars of desire stacked together, so money comes fast and goes fast. Seeing Qing Yang and Huo Xing, plenty of 「橫進之財」, windfalls. Lian Zhen takes Hua Lu in Jia years and Hua Ji in Bing years, so with Lian Zhen in the Wealth Palace those two years deserve particular attention. See Lian Zhen in the Wealth Palace.
Translation(Lian Zhen) with Qi Sha: sought amid bustle; with Tian Xiang, plenty, granaries and chests full. If there are the star of waste, Di Jie and Di Kong, money is often lost before the authorities.
- 耗 is Po Jun or a waste star, 劫 is Di Jie, and 天空 here is Di Kong.
Lian Zhen with Qi Sha (Chou, Wei): sought amid bustle; Lian Zhen with Tian Xiang (Zi, Wu): full granaries. Here again Tian Xiang shows its power to defuse Lian Zhen's malice (The Nature of Tian Xiang). The second half, 「耗劫天空常在官府中破財」: Lian Zhen's transformed qi is prisoner and has to do with officials and the law, so with the star of waste and Di Kong and Di Jie added, money goes on lawsuits. Translated to the present: legal disputes, fines and tax trouble are what this combination should watch for.
TranslationTian Fu in the Wealth Palace: plenty. Seeing Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong or Di Jie, rise and fall. With Zi Wei, great accumulation; with Lian Zhen or Wu Qu, plus Hua Quan and Hua Lu, a rich old man who lives in luxury.
Tian Fu is the lord of wealth and property, and the Wealth Palace is its natural seat: 「富足」. With malefic stars there are ups and downs, but Tian Fu's treasury runs deep, and malefic stars only cause swings. With Zi Wei (Yin, Shen), great accumulation; with Lian Zhen (Chen, Xu) or Wu Qu (Zi, Wu) plus Hua Quan and Hua Lu, a 「富奢翁」, rich and happy to spend. With Tian Fu in the Wealth Palace, the Fortune Palace opposite always holds Qi Sha: money, but no easy time sitting back to enjoy it. See Tian Fu in the Wealth Palace.
TranslationTai Yin in the Wealth Palace: in its temple, plenty, granaries and chests full; in a Xian palace, rise and fall, and money does not gather. With Tai Yang, little at first and much later; with Tian Ji, wealth made and a household founded from nothing; with Tian Tong, prosperous wealth that nourishes the self; with Lu Cun together with Zuo Fu and You Bi, great riches.
- Prosperous wealth that sustains the person; some read it as money that breeds by itself.
Tai Yin's transformed qi is riches, so the Wealth Palace suits it as well. In its temple (Hai, Zi, Chou), full granaries; in Xian (Mao, Chen, Si), ups and downs and nothing kept. With Tai Yang (Chou, Wei), little first and much later; with Tian Ji (Yin, Shen), self-made; with Tian Tong (Zi, Wu), 「財旺生身」, money that sustains the self. With Lu Cun plus Zuo Fu and You Bi, great riches. Tai Yin's wealth leans toward saving and real estate, not riches overnight. See Tai Yin in the Wealth Palace.
TranslationTan Lang in the Wealth Palace: in Miao or Wang, a sudden fortune; in a Xian position, poverty. With Zi Wei, it keeps what the family already has, and the household grows richer later. Seeing Huo Xing, rise and fall before thirty, and a sudden fortune after thirty.
Tan Lang in Miao or Wang, 「橫發」: Tan Lang is the star of desire, so in the Wealth Palace it dares to take risks and invest, and when luck runs its way it wins big. In Xian (Si, Hai), poverty. With Zi Wei (Mao, You), keeping the family's existing assets. Seeing Huo Xing, 「三十年前成敗,三十年後橫發」: the Huo Tan pattern as it looks in the Wealth Palace, with the Quan Shu's usual 'success only after thirty' rhythm. Such people suit work with explosive upside, like sales, investing or starting a business. See Tan Lang in the Wealth Palace.
TranslationJu Men in the Wealth Palace: wealth made and a household founded from nothing; best sought amid bustle. For one of haughty spirit, sudden loss.
Ju Men in the Wealth Palace, 「白手生財成家,宜鬧中取」: Ju Men rules words, so it earns by talking, arguing and competing, as a lawyer, salesperson, lecturer or in the media. 「氣高之人橫破」: someone who thinks too highly of themselves meets sudden losses. The line ties temperament to money: Ju Men's doubt and pride, put to the right use, become expertise; put to the wrong use, they turn into a quarrel with one's own finances. See Ju Men in the Wealth Palace.
Translation(Ju Men) with Tai Yang, in its temple, keeps the household's existing fortune; with Tian Ji, wealth that nourishes the self, and more than one line of work; with Tian Tong, a household founded from nothing, good for people of the nine streams. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong or Di Jie added, losses of many kinds.
- The household's ready-made fortune: assets already in place.
Ju Men with Tai Yang (Yin, Shen) in its temple keeps the existing family assets; Ju Men with Tian Ji (Mao, You) has wealth that sustains the self and 「所作不一」, more than one thing on the go; Tian Tong with Ju Men (Chou, Wei) builds a household from nothing and suits people of the nine streams. Of Ju Men's three pairings, the one with Tai Yang is steadiest, the one with Tian Ji most changeable, and the one with Tian Tong hardest work. With malefic stars, losses of many kinds. People with Ju Men and Tian Ji often have several streams of income; those with Ju Men and Tai Yang do well holding on to the family's assets.
TranslationTian Xiang in the Wealth Palace: plenty. With Zi Wei, sudden inflows of wealth; with Wu Qu plus the four malefic stars, wealth made through the hundred crafts; with Lian Zhen, wealth made through trade. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong, Di Jie, the star of waste or Hua Ji added, rise and fall, with nothing accumulated.
- The hundred crafts: all kinds of artisan trades.
Tian Xiang in the Wealth Palace: plenty. With Zi Wei (Chen, Xu), sudden inflows; with Wu Qu (Yin, Shen) plus the four malefic stars, 「百工生財」, earning through craft and technical skill, the same idea as the Tian Xiang chapter's 「與武破羊陀同行則為巧藝」, skilled crafts when with Wu Qu, Po Jun, Qing Yang or Tuo Luo; with Lian Zhen (Zi, Wu), wealth through trade. With malefic stars or Hua Ji, ups and downs and nothing saved. With Tian Xiang in the Wealth Palace, the palaces on either side always hold Ju Men and Tian Liang, so the state of one's finances also depends on its neighbors. See Tian Xiang in the Wealth Palace.
TranslationTian Liang in the Wealth Palace: plenty; in its temple, wealth and rank of the highest grade; in a Xian palace, a hard-working search for money to get by. With Tian Tong, wealth made from nothing that surpasses the ancestral estate;
Tian Liang in its temple: wealth and rank of the first grade; in Xian (Si, Hai, Shen), a hard-working life of getting by. Tian Liang is the star of shelter, and money in the Wealth Palace under it often has a sheltering quality: inheritance, insurance, money from elders, income earned by looking after others. With Tian Tong (Yin, Shen), self-made wealth that outdoes the family estate. Tian Liang's money leans stable and secure, and suits civil service, medicine, insurance and social work. See Tian Liang in the Wealth Palace.
Translation(Tian Liang) with Tian Ji: much effort of mind and body, but not much wealth; only after a change does a household get established. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong or Di Jie added, hard at first and easy later, just enough to get by.
Tian Ji with Tian Liang (Chen, Xu): 「勞心用力發財不多,更改方見成家」, things only look up after switching track or changing approach. That differs from the praise the Tai Wei Fu gives this pair for 'good shelter at court', which shows that in the Wealth Palace Tian Ji with Tian Liang leans toward clean rather than rich: brainwork and advisory income that never makes a great fortune. With malefic stars, hard first and easy later, just enough to live on. In working life: living off expertise, with a steady income that does not take off, and a change of direction as the turning point.
TranslationPo Jun in the Wealth Palace: in the Zi or Wu palace, much gold, silver and treasure saved up; in Chen or Xu, palaces where it is Wang, wealth also flourishes; in a Xian palace, the ancestral estate is ruined and money does not gather,
Textual note: 「破不祖聚」 probably has two characters swapped and should read 破祖不聚, 'the ancestral estate is ruined and money does not gather'; the translation follows that.
Po Jun in Zi or Wu (Miao): plenty of gold, silver and treasure saved; in Chen or Xu (Wang), also flourishing wealth; in a Xian palace (Mao, You), the family estate ruined and nothing kept. Po Jun's transformed qi is waste, but in Miao or Wang positions the waste turns into money flowing in and out in large amounts. With Po Jun in the Wealth Palace, the Fortune Palace opposite always holds Tian Xiang. Po Jun's money is put in first and recovered later, which suits businesses that need constant reinvestment. See Po Jun in the Wealth Palace.
Translation(Po Jun) with Wu Qu guarding the Si or Hai palace: money comes from the east and goes to the west. With Zi Wei, it goes out first and comes back later; with Lian Zhen, wealth made through toil, hard at first and smooth later; with Di Kong and Di Jie added, utterly poor.
Wu Qu with Po Jun (Si, Hai): money in from the east and out to the west, consistent with segment 5 on Wu Qu. Zi Wei with Po Jun (Chou, Wei): 'goes out first, comes back later', spending first and earning it back afterward. Lian Zhen with Po Jun (Mao, You): wealth through toil, hard first and smooth later. With Di Kong and Di Jie, utterly poor: Po Jun meeting the void stars is waste upon emptiness. The Po Jun chapter says 「與武曲入財位則東傾西敗」 (What Does Po Jun Govern?), exactly this combination. For people today, managing cash flow matters more than how much comes in.
TranslationWen Chang in the Wealth Palace: plenty, granaries and chests full. With lucky stars added, prosperous wealth; with Ju Men, rich. In a Xian position together with Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing and Di Kong, a ruined, poor scholar.
- A poor scholar.
Textual note: The 將 in 「陷地將同陀火鈴空」 is probably an error for 羊, Qing Yang.
Wen Chang in the Wealth Palace: full granaries; with lucky stars, prosperous wealth; with Ju Men, riches. In a Xian position (Yin, Wu, Xu) with malefic stars, a 「寒儒」, a poor scholar. Wen Chang rules documents and learning, so in the Wealth Palace it means earning through writing, exams and professional qualifications. As the text note says, 將 is probably 羊. In today's economy: writing, teaching, publishing and administrative work are the typical income of Wen Chang in the Wealth Palace.
TranslationWen Qu in the Wealth Palace: in its temple, plenty; with lucky stars added, wealth from noble helpers. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong, Di Jie or Hua Ji added, money comes from the east and goes to the west; rise and fall, without success.
Textual note: The 家 in 「空劫家忌」 is probably an error for 加, 'added', or a stray character.
Wen Qu in its temple: plenty; with lucky stars, money from benefactors; with malefic stars or Hua Ji, money in from the east and out to the west. Wen Qu takes Hua Ji in Ji years, so Wen Qu in the Wealth Palace in a Ji year means arguments or paperwork disputes over money. Wen Qu rules eloquence and the arts, so in the Wealth Palace it means earning by speaking, performing and talent. Lecturers, hosts, salespeople and artists are Wen Qu's kinds of income.
TranslationZuo Fu and You Bi in the Wealth Palace: plenty in every palace. Meeting the lucky stars, wealth from noble helpers. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong, Di Jie, the star of waste or Hua Ji added, rise and fall, and money does not gather.
Zuo Fu and You Bi in the Wealth Palace, 「諸宮富足」, plenty in every palace, and with lucky stars, money from benefactors. Zuo Fu and You Bi are support, so in the Wealth Palace they mean help in earning: partners, clients, people who make introductions. With malefic stars or Hua Ji, ups and downs and nothing kept. This entry treats Zuo Fu and You Bi together rather than separately, unlike the Siblings Palace chapter. Said in today's terms: cooperation and connections are the key to income, and finding partners beats going it alone.
TranslationLu Cun in the Wealth Palace: plenty, granaries and chests full, gold and jade piled high. With lucky stars added, even better: wealth increases by itself without toil. With Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong, Di Jie, the star of waste or Hua Ji, nothing at first and something later.
Lu Cun in the Wealth Palace, 「堆金積玉」. The Lu Cun chapter says 「十二宮中惟身命、田宅、財帛為要」 (What Does Lu Cun Govern?): of the twelve palaces, the Body and Life, Property and Wealth Palaces matter most for it, and the Wealth Palace is where it is strongest. With lucky stars, 「不待勞而財自加」, wealth grows without effort. With malefic stars or Hua Ji, nothing first and something later. With Lu Cun in the Wealth Palace, Qing Yang and Tuo Luo always flank it, in the Children and Health Palaces. People like this are good at saving and conservative with money: a steady income, fast accumulation, and no taste for risk.
TranslationQing Yang in the Wealth Palace: in the Chen, Xu, Chou or Wei palace, wealth made amid bustle. In a Xian position, the ancestral estate is ruined and money does not gather; in the end one cannot prosper, and makes a living only from fish, salt and filth.
- Fish, salt and filth: selling fish or salt, dealing with refuse, and similar hard, lowly trades.
Qing Yang in Chen, Xu, Chou or Wei (Miao): money amid bustle; in Xian: the family estate ruined, nothing kept, and a living only from 「魚鹽污垢」: fishing, salt, cleaning, butchery, trades the old world looked down on. Qing Yang is the punishment star, the blade, tied to knives and competition. Fiercely competitive industries and work that involves cutting (surgery, cooking, engineering) can all be Qing Yang income, and the old ranking of trades need not be applied.
TranslationTuo Luo in the Wealth Palace: wealth made amid bustle; in a Xian palace, a hard-working search for money to get by; with Di Kong and Di Jie added, money comes from the east and goes to the west.
Tuo Luo: money amid bustle; in a Xian palace (Yin, Shen, Si, Hai), a hard-working life of getting by; with Di Kong and Di Jie, money in from the east and out to the west. Tuo Luo rules delay, so in the Wealth Palace it means slow income, late payments, money stuck somewhere. Compared with Qing Yang, Tuo Luo's money is harder won but less likely to collapse. In business, receivables and cash flow are the things to watch, and payment terms belong in writing when a contract is signed.
TranslationHuo Xing guarding the Wealth Palace alone: sudden gains and sudden losses; in a Xian palace, hard work; with lucky stars added, much wealth and wishes fulfilled.
Huo Xing alone in the Wealth Palace, 「橫發橫破」: Huo Xing comes fast and goes fast, so in the Wealth Palace money arrives in a rush and leaves in a rush. In a Xian palace (Shen, Zi, Chen), hard work; with lucky stars, much wealth and wishes fulfilled. In terms of trades today, it suits short-term, high-turnover business, with something in place to hold on to the money, so that it is not all spent as soon as it is earned.
TranslationLing Xing guarding the Wealth Palace alone in its temple: a sudden fortune. In a Xian position, lonely and poor, getting by with hardship.
Ling Xing alone in its temple (Yin, Wu, Xu): 「橫發」; in Xian (Shen, Zi, Chen), lonely, poor and hard-pressed. Ling Xing's Wealth Palace entry is almost the same as Huo Xing's, except that it does not say 'sudden loss', perhaps because Ling Xing smolders and its losses come more slowly. Income with bursts of upside, but one has to sit through the slow stretch before it.
TranslationTian Kui and Tian Yue in the Wealth Palace: wealth made in pure and lofty pursuits; all one's life goes as one wishes.
Tian Kui and Tian Yue in the Wealth Palace, 「清高中生財,一生遂意」: earning through reputation, standing and expertise, not through buying and selling. Kui and Yue are noble helpers, so with them in the Wealth Palace, opportunities often come by a benefactor's introduction. Nowadays: education, scholarship, consulting and professional services are typical Kui and Yue income.
TranslationWhen the Dou Jun meets lucky stars, that month brings wealth. Meeting malefic or evil stars, Di Kong, Di Jie, the star of waste or Hua Ji, that month brings loss of money, quarrels and lawsuits, and flight because of money.
- Dou Jun: the palace where the first lunar month falls within a given year; the months are counted from it.
In the month the Dou Jun reaches the Wealth Palace, lucky stars bring money; malefic ones bring losses, quarrels and lawsuits, and 「為財而逃」, flight because of money. Notice that this entry speaks of 「其月」, that month, unlike the other palaces, which speak of the year: wealth is read by the monthly luck. In practice: in a month when the monthly luck reaches the Wealth Palace and meets malefic stars or Hua Ji, avoid large transactions and lending or borrowing. See Minor Luck and the Monthly Luck.

FAQ
What does the Wealth Palace show in Zi Wei Dou Shu?
The Wealth Palace shows a person's money: how it is earned, how much, and whether it can be kept. The Complete Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu goes star by star through the fortune each star brings in the Wealth Palace: Zi Wei 「豐足倉箱」, full granaries and chests; Tian Ji 「勞心費力生財」, money earned by hard mental and physical effort; Wu Qu plenty, and with a favorable transformation a family fortune in the tens of thousands. It then gives the rises and falls that come with Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong or Di Jie.
Which stars in the Wealth Palace does the Quan Shu say bring sudden wealth?
The Quan Shu says Zi Wei with Qi Sha and lucky stars gives 「財帛橫發」, a sudden windfall; Tan Lang in Miao or Wang 「橫發」; Lian Zhen with Tan Lang 「橫發橫破」, sudden gain and sudden loss; Huo Xing alone 「橫發橫破」; and Ling Xing alone in its temple 「橫發」. Tan Lang seeing Huo Xing means 「三十年前成敗,三十年後橫發」: ups and downs before thirty, a sudden fortune after it.
What happens with Di Kong and Di Jie in the Wealth Palace?
Most entries in the Quan Shu say that Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong or Di Jie bring rise and fall, and money that does not gather: Tian Ji 「一生有成有敗」, ups and downs all one's life; Zuo Fu and You Bi 「成敗而不聚」. Lian Zhen meeting the star of waste, Di Jie and Di Kong 「常在官府中破財」, often loses money before the authorities; Po Jun with Di Kong and Di Jie is 「極貧」, utterly poor; and Wu Qu with Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing or Ling Xing does not gather wealth and 「極怕空亡」, fears the void most of all.
What does the Quan Shu say about Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace?
The text says Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace means plenty; with a favorable transformation, a family fortune in the tens of thousands; without lucky stars, money earned amid bustle. With Po Jun, money comes from the east and goes to the west, nothing at first and something later; with Tian Xiang, abundant wealth; with Qi Sha, a fortune built from nothing; with Tan Lang, wealth only after thirty.
