Feng (Abundance)
Fullness at its peak, like the sun at noon. Use the bright hours to light up everything around you, and keep in mind that what reaches its fullest begins to turn.
Cast your own hexagramFeng (Abundance) puts you at a high point, with momentum and resources to spare. No need to worry: use it well and look after more people. At the same time, a peak doesn't last forever, so think ahead about what comes after.
Favorable
- Grow while the momentum lasts
- Bring talented people in
- Plan a fallback at the peak
- Make clear, quick calls
Avoid
- Getting smug and shutting the door
- Betting everything you've earned
- Putting off decisions
- Cramming the schedule full
Work and money
- Job search
- Your work is in the spotlight under Feng (Abundance), a good moment to go for a bigger stage or ask for a raise. Its Tuan pairs clarity with movement: lay out your results clearly before you speak up, rather than working quietly and hoping someone notices.
- Business
- Peak season and expansion suit Feng (Abundance): momentum and resources are there, so you can go for it. The top line's grand house is the warning sign, more locations and fewer people. Before you expand, count staff and cash flow for the slow months.
- Money
- Income or assets are doing well. It helps to lock in part of the gains and spread things out sensibly, rather than assuming the climb goes on forever.
Love and people
- Single
- You're in good form and getting noticed, so interest tends to follow. Feng (Abundance) is a crowded, noisy time, which makes it more important to see who is sincere. Once you're sure, answer openly.
- In a relationship
- In Feng (Abundance) things are warm, a good time to plan big steps like moving in or buying a place. Just don't put all your energy outward; keep some quiet time for the two of you.
- Getting back together
- Easier to talk when both of you are doing well. The second line of Feng (Abundance) rouses the other through sincerity: let them feel your good faith for themselves, which works better than rushing to prove how great your life is now.
- People and partnerships
- Feng (Abundance) opens with meeting a match as strong as you. There's no need to fear a collision. Split the work and play to each person's strengths, and moving ahead together tends to earn respect.
Daily life
- Exams and study
- Energy is high and you're absorbing fast. The Judgment of Feng (Abundance) says it is fitting to be like the midday sun: tackle the hardest material while you're at your brightest. Peaks bring fatigue later, so schedule rest before the exam now.
- Moving and travel
- Big trips or a move to a better place suit Feng (Abundance). Luggage and expenses tend to pile up, though. Leave some slack in the schedule instead of packing every day full.
- Body and mind
- Feng (Abundance) brings plenty of energy and plenty to do, which makes it easy to run yourself into the ground. The busier it gets, the more a fixed bedtime and some empty time matter. If your body feels like it can't keep up, see a doctor.
Traditional questions
- Something you are waiting for
- Likely to come fast and loud, maybe several things at once. Yet the Tuan of Feng (Abundance) notes that heaven and earth fill and empty in turn, and a high point doesn't hold still: when an answer arrives, take it rather than waiting for something better.
- Disputes and lawsuits
- The Image of Feng (Abundance) has thunder and lightning deciding lawsuits: with evidence in hand and a clear view, it's a good time to settle the matter in one go. If it drags on past the moment, it may not favor you.
- Lost things and people
- Moderately to fairly likely to be found. Li (Fire) is bright places, Zhen (Thunder) is movement and crossroads: check under lamps, by windows, next to appliances or along hallways people walk through often. Li also points south.
Making a decision
You can move while the momentum is with you; conditions are about as good as they get. Plan your exit and how you'll hold on to what you gain at the same time.
If you are…
The Judgment of Feng (Abundance) says the king attains it and need not worry: no need to panic, this is your peak. But more offers bring more work and more disputes. Pick the shows you can play well, have someone who knows the business read the contracts, and don't say yes to everything.
A big, lively party is fine; Feng (Abundance) is a hexagram of fullness to begin with. More people means more to handle, though. Settle the seating, the speeches and who drives the older relatives, and split those jobs among the cousins, so on the day you can actually be with the guest of honor.
This is the reading when no line is changing. With changing lines, Zhu Xi’s method says which line to read, and the result page after a casting tells you directly.
Success. The king attains this abundance. Do not worry; it is fitting to be like the sun at midday.
Thunder over Fire: Zhen (Thunder) above, Li (Fire) below. Li is fire, lightning and brightness; Zhen is thunder and movement. Thunder and lightning arrive together, clarity joined with action, and the display is enormous. So the hexagram is called Feng (Abundance): fullness at its height.
Nine at the beginning
Meeting the lord who is one's match. Though the two are equal (both firm), there is no blame. Going forward brings esteem.
You run into a partner as strong and opinionated as you are. Don't worry about clashing. If your skills complement each other and each of you pulls your weight, moving ahead together tends to earn respect.
Small Image:
Six in the second place
The screen of matting grows thick, so that at midday one sees the Dipper. Going brings suspicion and dislike. If one rouses the other through sincerity, good fortune.
The person above you can't see the situation clearly. Pointing it out bluntly is likely to be taken as a challenge. Build trust through solid work first, and let them reach the conclusion on their own.
Small Image:
Nine in the third place
The curtain grows thick, so that at midday one sees the small stars. One breaks one's right arm. No blame.
Things around you go even darker and your strength has nowhere to land, as if your main tool were taken away: a frozen project, revoked access. It isn't your fault. Don't force anything big for now.
Small Image:
Nine in the fourth place
The screen of matting grows thick, so that at midday one sees the Dipper. Meeting the lord who is one's equal. Good fortune.
The bigger picture is still unclear, but you have found someone at your level who thinks the way you do. Working as a pair beats feeling your way alone in the dark.
Small Image:
Six in the fifth place
Bringing in those of brilliance; there is celebration and praise. Good fortune.
You don't need to be the most capable person in the room. Knowing how to bring talented people in and let them shine is what tends to bring both results and a good name.
Small Image:
Six at the top
Making one's house grand and screening off one's home. Peering through the door, it is silent, with no one there. For three years no one is seen. Misfortune.
Reaching the top and then shutting yourself in, like no longer listening after a big success or drifting from friends and family, can leave you with no one nearby. Open the door now and bring people back.
Small Image:
Feng (Abundance) means greatness. Clarity joined with movement: hence abundance. The king attains it because he holds greatness in esteem. "Do not worry; it is fitting to be like the sun at midday" means it is fitting to shine on all under heaven. When the sun reaches midday it begins to sink; when the moon is full it begins to wane. Heaven and earth fill and empty, growing and fading with the times. How much more so for people, and how much more so for ghosts and spirits.
The Image
Thunder and lightning arrive together: this is Feng (Abundance). The noble person, seeing this, decides lawsuits and carries out penalties (seeing clearly like lightning, acting with the force of thunder).
The Sequence: why it comes here得其所歸者必大,故受之以豐;豐者大也。
Gui Mei (The Marrying Maiden) is about finding where one belongs. Once one has a place to belong and firm footing, one can grow large, so Gui Mei is followed by Feng (Abundance). Feng means greatness.
Miscellaneous Notes
Feng (Abundance) means many affairs: in times of abundance there are many people and complications, and many upsets too. The same line says Lü (The Wanderer) means few kin: living as a guest far from home, with hardly anyone close by.
