Rewriting his grammar for the second edition
The first part of Jacob's Deutsche Grammatik (German Grammar) appeared in 1819, and a second edition followed in 1822. In its preface he said he had to "mow the first crop down to the ground", and the second edition was really a new work. His Life Palace holds Po Jun (Wang) with Hua Quan. Po Jun is a star of tearing down and starting over, and Hua Quan in the Life Palace keeps the decision about whether to overturn something, and how to redo it, in his own hands. That lines up with his rewriting his own book from start to finish.

In 1828 Jacob published Deutsche Rechtsalterthümer (Antiquities of German Law), and the following year he moved to the University of Göttingen as professor and librarian, lecturing on legal antiquities, historical grammar and literary history. This period falls in the Decade Luck of his Career Palace (nominal ages 42–51, 1825–1834), and Tan Lang (Xian) with Hua Quan from the decade's Four Transformations returns to his natal Career Palace, the decade's Life Palace itself. Hua Quan means holding the lead; more weight at work in this decade lines up with his becoming a professor.

While Jacob studied law at the University of Marburg, the lectures of the Roman law scholar Friedrich Carl von Savigny awakened his love of historical and antiquarian investigation; it was also in Savigny's library that he first saw an edition of the Middle High German love songs and other early texts, and he resolved to study their language. That fits his love of old poetry and language.
