Where the chart lines up

A deep, powerful contralto

Garland was known for her versatility and her powerful contralto; one correspondent described her as the "possessor of a deep, velvety contralto voice that could turn on a dime to belt out the high notes." In her chart, the Life Palace holds Ju Men (Miao). Ju Men corresponds to the mouth and the voice, and Miao is the position where this star is at full strength. A voice that alone is enough to make people remember her fits Ju Men (Miao) in her Life Palace.

The night at Carnegie Hall, 1961

On April 23, 1961 (nominal age 40), Garland gave a concert at Carnegie Hall that many have called "the greatest night in show business history", and the live album later made her the first woman to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. In the annual Four Transformations of 1961, Wen Qu (Wang) takes Hua Ke (Transformation of Fame) and enters her natal Career Palace. Wen Qu corresponds to artistic talent and Hua Ke is reputation, which lines up with this concert bringing her singing into wide view.

On her father's stage at two

Garland's parents were both vaudevillians who ran a theater in Minnesota that showed films and also staged vaudeville acts. At two she joined her two older sisters on the stage of her father's theater to sing Jingle Bells in a Christmas show, and the three sisters performed there for the next few years, accompanied by their mother on piano. In her chart, the birth-year Zi Wei (De) with Hua Quan (Transformation of Power) falls in the Parents Palace. Zi Wei is the chart's ruling star, and Hua Quan is command and weight. Parents who had a stage of their own match this position.

Taking the stage with her children

In November 1964 Garland returned to the London Palladium, performing with her then 18-year-old daughter Liza Minnelli; in July 1967, at New York's Palace Theatre, she performed with her children Lorna and Joey Luft, and Lorna later became an actress and singer too. In her chart, the birth-year Tian Fu (Miao) with Hua Ke falls in the Children Palace. Hua Ke is reputation and being seen, and with it in the Children Palace, her children also stepped into the audience's view.
