Five elements

The Earth element

Earth belongs to the turning points between seasons and to the centre, and its colours are yellow, brown and beige; its image is the ground that holds everything. In folk tradition, Earth stands for trust, stability and acceptance, the energy that gives the other four elements somewhere to stand.

Plenty of Earth

When Earth is strong in a Ba Zi chart, you are often described as steady, trustworthy and dependable, the person others lean on. The sticking point is wanting stability so much that change takes a while to accept; trying something new now and then can bring fresh rewards.

Little or no Earth

When Earth is weak, you may be described as flexible and fond of change, though at times you may feel you lack a fixed point. Missing an element, or having little of it, is very common and is not a defect; adding a bit more routine to daily life can supply that grounded feeling.

Bringing in more Earth

Folk advice suggests yellow, brown and other earth tones, and keeping the centre of your home tidy and open. Gardening, pottery, a regular daily rhythm, and seeing family and friends on a set schedule are all seen as ways to bring in Earth.
