Five elements

The Wood element

Wood belongs to spring and the east, and its colours are green and teal; its image is a tree growing upward. In folk tradition, Wood stands for kindness, growth and planning, reaching toward the light the way plants do.

Plenty of Wood

When Wood is strong in a Ba Zi chart, you are often described as idealistic and ambitious, keen to learn and glad to look after others. The sticking point is having too many ideas and strong opinions, wanting to push everything forward at once, so learning to trim and choose helps.

Little or no Wood

When Wood is weak, you may be described as easygoing about plans, needing a little extra push to get started. Missing an element, or having little of it, is very common and is not a defect; it simply means you can draw more of that quality from daily life.

Bringing in more Wood

Folk advice suggests more green in what you wear and use, plants at home or on your desk, and time spent facing or travelling east. Walks, hikes, time in nature, or starting a small habit that grows slowly are all seen as ways to bring in Wood.
