Five elements

The Fire element

Fire belongs to summer and the south, and its colours are red, orange and purple; its image is the sun and firelight. In folk tradition, Fire stands for courtesy, passion and expression, an energy that spreads outward and lights up others.

Plenty of Fire

When Fire is strong in a Ba Zi chart, you are often described as warm, magnetic and quick, good at lifting the mood. The sticking point is impatience and quick-rising emotions, so when you are racing ahead, pause before you decide.

Little or no Fire

When Fire is weak, you may be described as reserved and low-key, not keen to step into the spotlight. Missing an element, or having little of it, is very common and is not a defect; your light may simply be quieter, and you can add a little more spark when you need it.

Bringing in more Fire

Folk advice suggests small touches of red or orange, a bright, well-lit home, and time spent facing or travelling south. Getting sunlight, exercise that makes you sweat, lively gatherings, or practising sharing your ideas in front of others are all seen as ways to bring in Fire.
