Five elements

The Metal element

Metal belongs to autumn and the west, and its colours are white, gold and silver; its image is ore and the blade. In folk tradition, Metal stands for righteousness, decisiveness and order, knowing what to keep and what to let go, like the autumn harvest.

Plenty of Metal

When Metal is strong in a Ba Zi chart, you are often described as decisive and principled, with strong follow-through; you do what you say. The sticking point is rigid standards and very direct words, so practising a softer delivery helps your principles be accepted.

Little or no Metal

When Metal is weak, you may be described as soft-hearted and easy to talk to, sometimes hesitant when you need to decide or say no. Missing an element, or having little of it, is very common and is not a defect; practising clear boundaries is enough.

Bringing in more Metal

Folk advice suggests small things in white, gold or silver, and time spent facing or travelling west. Decluttering, organising your space, keeping a tidy schedule, or practising a skill that rewards precision are all seen as ways to bring in Metal.
