Wu–Wei void branches (Kong Wang) in Ba Zi

Your Day pillar sits in the Jia Shen decade, so Wu and Wei are your void branches (Kong Wang): you light your own fire and build your own stage.

Who has this void

Wu-Wei void covers the ten Day pillars of the Jia Shen decade: Jia Shen, Yi You, Bing Xu, Ding Hai, Wu Zi, Ji Chou, Geng Yin, Xin Mao, Ren Chen and Gui Si. The ten stems run out at Gui Si, so Wu and Wei are left without a stem; those two are the void branches.

Pillars that fall void in your chart

If the Year pillar is void, ties to elders and family are looser, and you learn early to make your own decisions. In the Month pillar, the place family or work gives you may not quite fit, and you often go looking for your own stage. In the Hour pillar, hopes around children and later life are best held flexibly, and long-term plans work better broken into visible milestones. Wu is Fire and Wei is Earth, the height of summer into its end, so this group is often read as full of warmth that needs lighting from within. If Fire or Earth is favorable for you, its help is muted; if unfavorable, its pressure eases. When Zi clashes Wu or Chou clashes Wei in your chart, the void is filled. Wu and Wei combine with each other, but since both are void, that combination does not fill it.

Getting through void years

Your void years are 2026 (Bing Wu) and 2027 (Ding Wei), then 2038 (Wu Wu) and 2039 (Ji Wei); the last pair was 2014 and 2015. A BaZi year begins at Li Chun, around February 4, so this round runs from early February 2026 to Li Chun 2028. Each year, the Wu and Wei months, roughly early June to early August, are a smaller void. Use these stretches to polish your work, study, and look after relationships and daily routines. Big new launches can be prepared now and pushed in earnest once the void has passed.

A tip

With Wu-Wei void, save half your fire for the long game; it does not need to burn at full blaze every time.

FAQ

How should someone with Wu-Wei void handle 2026 and 2027?

Treat these two years as groundwork: build your portfolio and skills, sort out finances, and look after your health and relationships. If you are planning a business or a big decision, try it small and gather what you need, then roll it out fully after Li Chun in 2028.

What if my chart has Wu or Wei in it?

Look at which pillar it sits in. The Year pillar is family background, the Month pillar is parents, siblings and work environment, and the Hour pillar is children, later life and long-range plans; whatever the void pillar stands for asks more of your own effort. If Zi clashes Wu or Chou clashes Wei in your chart, the void is filled and its effect is small.

What does it mean when a void branch is clashed or combined?

When a void branch is clashed by another branch, or bound in a combination with one, in your chart or in a luck period, the classics consider the void filled, so it is no longer fully empty. That is why two people with the same void branches can feel it very differently.
