Your parents are getting older. Who moves back home, who chips in more each month? One dinner and the table goes quiet. The two of you used to fight over the remote. As adults, the friction moves to money, caring for your parents, and the distance that grows once each of you has a family of your own. A sibling reading in Zi Wei Dou Shu looks at each person's own Siblings Palace, and at which palaces your birth-year Hua Lu and Hua Ji land in on the other's chart.
The short version:
- Formula: sibling compatibility = your Siblings Palace + their Siblings Palace + how birth-year Hua Lu and Hua Ji fly between you + tips based on their Life Palace star.
- Each reads their own: two siblings often have very different Siblings Palaces. One may feel you rarely see eye to eye, while the other feels things are calm. Both feelings are real.
- The signal that matters most: the palace their Hua Ji lands in is the area where you're most likely to worry about them. Money and family matters come up most.
- Parents can use it too: to understand why your two kids clash, enter both children's details. The "you" in the form becomes one of the children.
Which palaces to read, and why
| Who | Palace | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| You | Siblings | how you experience them |
| Them | Siblings | how they experience you |
| Both | Lu and Ji flow | who eases, who worries |
The Siblings Palace sits next to the Life Palace and covers brothers, sisters, and others of your own generation. The Zi Wei Dou Shu Quan Shu (The Complete Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu) calls Tian Ji the star that presides over siblings. Its second volume goes star by star through how many siblings a person has and whether they get along. Families are smaller now, so the head counts no longer fit. What carries over is the tone of the relationship.
Some teachers also read the Siblings Palace for your mother. Counting from the Parents Palace, the Siblings Palace is the Parents Palace's own Spouse Palace. So what shows up here often ties back to your mother and to family matters in general. Some teachers say that for an only child, this palace covers cousins and close friends of the same generation.
Couple and friendship readings check which of your palaces the other person's Life Palace falls in. Siblings are family from birth, so when you pick "Sibling" in the form, both sides read the Siblings Palace instead, plus the flow of Hua Lu and Hua Ji.
Reading the two charts together
Birth-year transformations are the most basic Flying Stars method. Where their Hua Lu lands in your chart is the area they tend to make easier for you. Where their Hua Ji lands is the area where you're most likely to worry about them. In the other direction, your Hua Ji shows where they find it hardest to stop worrying about you.
Here is a pair calculated by our engine: an older brother whose Life Palace star is Zi Wei, and a younger sister whose Life Palace star is Tian Tong.
- The brother's Siblings Palace: Tian Ji and Ju Men share it. The line reads: "Your siblings often disagree with you, and it's hard to be of one mind."
- The sister's Siblings Palace: Tian Xiang, in its strongest position and with helpful stars. The line describes siblings who get along calmly and can help each other when something comes up.
- Hua Lu: the sister's Tan Lang Hua Lu lands in the brother's Spouse Palace. The brother's Tian Ji Hua Lu lands in the sister's Career Palace.
- Hua Ji: the sister's Tian Ji Hua Ji lands in the brother's Siblings Palace. The brother's Tai Yin Hua Ji lands in the sister's Wealth Palace.
- Getting along: the brother's result says the sister wants ease and to feel looked after, so asking gently works better than nagging. The sister's result says to let the brother save face in front of others and raise disagreements in private.
Same family, two different pictures. The brother feels the two of them rarely agree, while the sister feels things are calm. In the Quan Shu, the Ju Men entry for the Siblings Palace says that with Tian Ji alongside, siblings pull in different directions and are not of one mind. That's where the brother's line comes from. Read for today, it means the brother thinks about family matters a lot and has strong views on them, and the sister may not feel the same tension at all.
The sister's Hua Ji lands in the brother's Siblings Palace, so siblings and family matters are where the brother worries about the sister most. That same palace also holds the brother's own Tian Ji Hua Lu: willing to pitch in, and unable to let it go. The brother's Hua Ji lands in the sister's Wealth Palace, so money is where the sister worries about the brother most. When the two of them talk about their parents' expenses or what happens to the house later, putting the numbers on the table works far better than each one guessing.
On the Hua Lu side, the sister often helps the brother in love, and the brother can help the sister at work.
For parents: reading your two children
In the form, "you" is one child and "the other person" is the other. Put the older child in "you" and you see the older child's Siblings Palace, and how the older child experiences the younger one. Then swap them and run it again for the younger child's side.
The brother and sister above show why this matters: the same pair, two different Siblings Palaces. When each child tells their own version of the other, both are usually being honest. The reading doesn't rank your children or grade your parenting. It shows what each child cares about. For your bond with each child, see Parent and Child Compatibility.
Where siblings most often get stuck
Being compared growing up
Different Life Palace stars mean different strengths from the start. A Zi Wei brother is used to taking charge and making the call. A Tian Tong sister wants things easy. If old comparisons still sting, find the approach that fits the other person's star: raise disagreements with a Zi Wei sibling in private, and ask a Tian Tong sibling gently instead of pushing.
Who takes care of your parents
Some teachers say that people whose own birth-year Hua Ji sits in their Siblings Palace can help a sibling and still hear that it wasn't enough. Make the split specific: who pays, who gives time, who handles the paperwork. Write it down and take turns, and there's less room for "I'm doing more than you."
Money and inheritance
When Hua Ji lands in the Wealth Palace, the worry shows up around money. Loans, your parents' house, who pays first: agree on amounts and timelines up front, and for big decisions, bring in another family member or a professional. And when you split things up, remember that time and presence count as much as money.
Distance after you each start a family
In the Quan Shu's section on siblings, the entries for Tian Tong, Tai Yin and Ju Men all note that siblings do better living apart. Read for today: once each of you has your own household, a little distance often keeps visits easy. When a partner joins the family, In-Law Compatibility can help too.

FAQ
How do you read sibling compatibility in Zi Wei Dou Shu?
Each sibling reads their own Siblings Palace. Then look at which palaces each person's birth-year Hua Lu and Hua Ji land in on the other's chart. The result also gives one or two tips based on the other person's Life Palace star.
Why do my sibling and I get different Siblings Palace readings?
The Siblings Palace shows how you experience your siblings, and every chart is different. It's common for one to feel you rarely agree while the other feels things are calm. Read each side on its own terms.
Can parents run a compatibility reading for their two kids?
Yes. Put one child in "you" and the other in "the other person", then swap and run it again. That gives you both children's Siblings Palaces.
What does it mean when my sibling's Hua Ji lands in my Wealth Palace?
Money is where you're most likely to worry about this sibling, for example loans or splitting your parents' costs. Getting the numbers clear early takes a lot of strain off the relationship.
What does the Siblings Palace show for an only child?
Some teachers read it as cousins and close friends of your generation when you have no siblings. Some also link it to your mother, since it is the Spouse Palace counted from the Parents Palace.
Does the Siblings Palace show how many siblings I have?
The Quan Shu goes star by star through how many siblings a person has, a count made for the large families of its time. Families are smaller now and the numbers often don't match, so Xingge reads the Siblings Palace for how you get along, not for a head count.
