What the Wood 3 · Tai Yin type is like
Rain that falls in the night: you only notice in the morning that the seedlings have grown. A Wood 3 Tai Yin nourishes the people around them quietly, and the effect is often seen only afterwards.
Tai Yin meets the Wood 3 Bureau
Water feeds Wood, so here the star feeds the bureau: Tai Yin, a Water star, in the Wood 3 Bureau tends to send its sensitivity outward, where it becomes other people's growth. All are Tai Yin alone. The Xu, Hai and You branches are the most common, and these three night-time positions together make up over 60%, at Prosperous (Wang) or Temple (Miao); Fallen (Xian) in Mao, Chen and Si comes to a little over 30%. Prosperous is this type's most frequent brightness at just over 40%, with Temple, in Hai, around 20%.
Work and money
With Tai Yin in the Life Palace in You, Xu or Hai, Tai Yang always falls in Si, Chen or Mao; both are bright and both light the Life Palace, so the Xingge chart marks Ri Yue Bing Ming (Sun and Moon Both Bright). A rhyme in the Complete Book says “The sun and moon both bright: assisting the Son of Heaven in the hall of Yao”; the old writers saw a talent fit to serve the ruler. Over 60% of Wood 3 Tai Yin fit this, and today it reads as being able to attend to reason and feeling alike. Water feeding Wood makes them good at nurturing: education, editing, people development, care work, brand building, anywhere things need patience to grow. With money they will spend on other people's growth, tuition, books, tools, and should remember to keep something back for themselves.
Love and getting along
In love they are attentive and caring, remembering a partner's tastes, routines and worries. With Water feeding Wood, their love is the nourishing kind, and watching the other person thrive is satisfaction enough. But after nourishing for long enough, they forget they need watering too; a partner who now and then takes care of them first will be remembered for it.
When things get stuck
Too much night rain rots the roots: so concerned with whether others are growing well that their own needs keep getting pushed back. The other snag is keeping everything inside and quietly swallowing hurts. Keep one evening just for themselves; when the night rain pauses, the soil can breathe.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
A Wood 3 Tai Yin's periods begin at age 3 (counted the traditional way), with the first decade on the Life Palace. After 13 there are two roads. Heading to the Parents Palace, they next meet elders and rules, and learn to disagree gently. Heading to the Siblings Palace, they meet peers and friends, and learn to keep their own quiet in a crowd. Which road depends on the yin-yang of the birth year's stem and the person's sex; the periods change again at 23 and 33.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Tai Yin leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Wood 3 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 3 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
What is Ri Yue Bing Ming, and why do so many Wood 3 Tai Yin have it?
The Xingge chart marks Ri Yue Bing Ming (Sun and Moon Both Bright) when Tai Yang and Tai Yin are both in the San Fang Si Zheng of the Life Palace and both at Temple (Miao) or Prosperous (Wang). With Tai Yin in the Life Palace in You, Xu or Hai, Tai Yang is always in Si, Chen or Mao and both are bright, so all of these are marked. Over 60% of Wood 3 Tai Yin happen to fall in those three palaces, a high share. A rhyme in the Complete Book says “The sun and moon both bright: assisting the Son of Heaven in the hall of Yao”; today it reads as work done with both light and warmth, suited to standing beside a key figure and doing things carefully and well.
Does a Wood 3 Tai Yin get along with a Tian Liang person?
Often very well. Tian Liang loves looking after people and reasoning things through; Tai Yin is attentive and considerate. Both are givers, and together they feel secure. The catch is that both are used to being the carer and neither asks first; taking turns being the one looked after keeps things balanced.
How common is the Wood 3 · Tai Yin type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 2,083 have Tai Yin leading the Life Palace and the Wood 3 Bureau: about 0.8%, roughly 1 in 126 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
