What the Wood 3 · Wu Qu type is like
Only when the axe goes into the forest do trees become beams and tables. A Wood 3 Wu Qu is good at turning raw material into something usable, and what they care about is the finished piece.
Wu Qu meets the Wood 3 Bureau
Here the star works on the bureau. Wu Qu is Metal and the Wood 3 Bureau is Wood; Metal cuts Wood, so they meet their surroundings by getting hands-on, trimming the tangle down to usable material. Among the pairings Wu Qu with Tian Fu is the most common at about 20%, in Zi or Wu at Prosperous (Wang); Wu Qu alone, with Po Jun and with Qi Sha are about 17% each, with Tan Lang about 15%, and with Tian Xiang about 14%. The Life Palace is spread widely, from Yin through Wu and also Zi and Chou; overall Temple (Miao) is about 32%, Prosperous about 20%, Average (Ping) and Profit (Li) about 17% each, and Gain (De) about 14%.
Work and money
Master Xiyi says Wu Qu has “Tian Fu and Tian Xiang as its deputy stars.” About 20% of Wood 3 Wu Qu share the Life Palace with Tian Fu, so the deputy sits right alongside: Wu Qu does the cutting and Tian Fu gathers it in, earning and keeping. This type suits work that turns rough into refined: manufacturing, construction, product development, the kind of finance that turns messy accounts into clean reports. Metal cutting Wood also gives them an urge to remodel whatever they are handed. With money they prefer assets they can see and touch, tools, equipment, property; if they spend, they want something solid to show for it.
Love and getting along
Their love often takes physical form: a bookshelf they put together themselves, a bike they fixed, an itinerary they planned. They do not say much, but they repair. People with Metal cutting Wood tend to give tools as presents, a good knife, a storage rack, with instructions attached. A partner who wants romance can drop a hint, and they will treat romance as a project too and do it properly.
When things get stuck
Swing the axe too often and the forest goes bare: wanting to fix and change everything, until even what was working gets taken apart. The other snag is valuing only the finished product and treating the people and the trial and error along the way as waste. Leave one patch uncut and let it grow on its own; something good and unexpected often comes up.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
At age 3 (counted the traditional way) a Wood 3 Wu Qu's periods begin, with the first decade on the Life Palace. After 13 the road forks. Heading to the Parents Palace and then the Fortune Palace, the axe turns on rules and on themselves: arguing methods with elders, reworking their own standards in private. Heading to the Siblings Palace and then the Spouse Palace, the axe turns on the people beside them: dividing work with siblings, settling with a partner who decides what. The first road belongs to men born in yang years and women born in yin years, the second to everyone else. The periods change again at 23 and 33.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Wu Qu leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Wood 3 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 3 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
Are Wu Qu and Tian Fu together good at saving?
That is the usual view. The Complete Book says Wu Qu “in the same palace as Tian Fu, there is long life,” and Master Xiyi lists Tian Fu as one of Wu Qu's deputy stars. People with this pairing earn through Wu Qu's drive and keep through Tian Fu's steadiness, two forces in one palace. About 20% of Wood 3 Wu Qu have it, in Zi or Wu, and the palace opposite is always Qi Sha, which adds plenty of push. Being good at saving is a tendency; whether the money stays still comes down to habits.
What work suits a Wood 3 Wu Qu?
Work that turns raw material into finished goods: manufacturing, construction, product development, repair, sorting out the books. They need to see output; jobs that only discuss direction and never produce anything soon make them restless.
How common is the Wood 3 · Wu Qu type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 4,387 have Wu Qu leading the Life Palace and the Wood 3 Bureau: about 1.7%, roughly 1 in 60 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
