What the Wood 3 · Tian Xiang type is like

A Wood 3 Tian Xiang treats themselves as the irrigation system for a whole nursery: they can see who is growing and who needs water. Their happiest moment is not being praised themselves, but watching someone they believed in finally step onto the stage.

Tian Xiang meets the Wood 3 Bureau

Water feeds Wood. Tian Xiang is Water and the Wood 3 Bureau is Wood, so this Tian Xiang is the one pouring its own water into the bureau: the energy flows outward, and watching others grow is its greatest satisfaction. In charts of this type Tian Xiang sits in Mao, Hai or Chou about 21% of the time each, Si and Wei about 14% each, and You about 11%. Gain (De) brightness is about 48%, in Si, Wei and Hai; Fallen (Xian) about 31%, in Mao and You; Temple (Miao) about 21%, in Chou, tied with Metal 4 for the highest share of the five bureaus. The Complete Book says: “If this star is in a place of birth and strength, even without meeting the emperor's seat, if it gains Zuo Fu and You Bi, it holds authority in office.” A bright Tian Xiang joined by Zuo Fu and You Bi can hold real authority even with no Zi Wei in the Life Palace, and the 21% at Temple in Chou may be closest to that route, though whether Zuo Fu and You Bi are present is something to check on your own chart. The opposite palace is evenly split in this bureau, with Zi Wei and Po Jun, Wu Qu and Po Jun, and Lian Zhen and Po Jun at roughly 34%, 35% and 31%.

Work and money

Their work tends to centre on people: who fits which role, who needs some encouragement, who is ready for something bigger. Onboarding, coaching, HR and team leadership are all work they throw themselves into. The second volume says “Tian Xiang, a lucky star, as master of the Life Palace: this person is sure to be much given to self-restraint.” In Wood 3 that restraint often shows up as handing out resources first and putting themselves last. Their money often grows with the team, through bonuses, profit shares and team results. When the team does well, their share arrives too.

Love and getting along

In love they are a companion who walks alongside. If a partner wants to change careers, they help rewrite the CV; if the partner wants to learn to paint, they remember the enrolment deadline. They love watching their partner become, year by year, more like the person they hoped to be. The thing to keep in mind is that a partner is not a student. Sometimes the other person wants to be admired, not developed, and telling those moments apart keeps the care from turning into pressure.

When things get stuck

Pour water outward long enough and the well runs low. They trust that people will change if spoken to kindly, and keep offering one more chance until their own patience is gone. A line helps, for instance: if the same thing has been discussed twice with no change, switch approach or hand it on rather than carrying it alone. Beyond looking after others, they need a patch of ground for themselves too: a class taken just for them, time with nobody to lead.

The rhythm of the 10-year periods

Wood 3 starts its first period at age 3 (counted the traditional way) and changes at 13, 23 and 33. For Tian Xiang, the clearest sign of a change is often that the people around them are a new set. In the Life Palace period the focus is looking after the people close by; in the next, who they look after and how they do it shifts with the theme of that palace. In the year or two before a change, the old role may start to feel hard to hold. There is no need to grip tighter. Handing over the people and the work properly before stepping into the next period is a very Tian Xiang way to do it.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology

In this type Tian Xiang leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.

The bureau is the Wood 3 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 3 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ

What is Cai Yin Jia Yin (Seal Between Wealth and Shelter), and can a Wood 3 Tian Xiang have it?

When Tian Xiang is in the Life Palace, the two neighbouring palaces always hold Tian Liang on one side and Ju Men on the other. If the Ju Men side has a Hua Lu transformation, such as Ju Men turning Hua Lu for those born in a Xin year, Tian Xiang is flanked by Hua Lu and Tian Liang, which is this pattern; for Tian Xiang in Mao or You, Tai Yang turning Hua Lu in a Geng year counts too. The patterns panel on a Xingge chart marks it. It means people around you often help smooth the way, and it depends on birth year, not on the Wood 3 Bureau.

Does a Wood 3 Tian Xiang make a good manager?

A very good people manager, especially of teams that need to develop newcomers or blend very different personalities. Their weak spot is not ability but reluctance to say anything hard. Once they learn to spell out expectations and state limits, they become the kind of manager whose team gets stronger every year.

How common is the Wood 3 · Tian Xiang type?

Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 2,159 have Tian Xiang leading the Life Palace and the Wood 3 Bureau: about 0.8%, roughly 1 in 122 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.

Why can two people born on the same day be different types?

Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.

What is the Five Elements Bureau?

The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.

How is this different from MBTI?

MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.

Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?

When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.

A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
