What the Wood 3 · Tian Tong type is like

Water poured on the roots makes the tree grow tall, and nobody sees the water. A Wood 3 Tian Tong is the one doing the watering, and their blessings often grow through other people.

Tian Tong meets the Wood 3 Bureau

Water feeds Wood, so here the star feeds the bureau: Tian Tong, a Water star, in the Wood 3 Bureau tends to send its good fortune outward and nourish the people nearby. About 54% have Tian Tong alone; Tian Tong with Tian Liang is about 17%, with Tai Yin about 15%, and with Ju Men about 13%. The Life Palace is common in Chen, Si, Yin, Hai, Mao, Chou and Zi. Average (Ping) is about 34%; Temple (Miao) in Si or Hai about 20%, Prosperous (Wang) about 17%, Unsupported (Bu) about 13%, Profit (Li) about 10%, and Fallen (Xian) about 5%.

Work and money

Master Xiyi calls Tian Tong “the star of the Southern Dipper that adds to one's years and preserves life.” In Wood 3, preserving life becomes a gift for care: they are good at helping things grow, and new hires, students and colleagues back from sick leave all seem to do better beside them. They suit education, staff development, social work, gardening, or any work that means waiting for something to grow. The cost of Water feeding Wood is that the effort goes unseen and the credit goes to the tree. With money they also tend to spend on others, so they should keep some aside to be spent only on themselves.

Love and getting along

They love by making life comfortable for the other person: they remember you feel the cold, so there is always a jacket in the car; in your busy week, they keep the house running. People with Water feeding Wood rarely claim credit, and a simple thank-you, when a partner notices, is excellent nourishment for them.

When things get stuck

Too much water rots the roots: caring for others until they forget themselves, or finishing other people's work for them so the other person never grows. Letting go a little and leaving someone to find their own way is another kind of care. And keep a plot of their own, to grow something that belongs to them alone.

The rhythm of the 10-year periods

A Wood 3 Tian Tong's periods start at age 3 (counted the traditional way), and the first, 3 to 12, is the Life Palace. With the first period on their own palace, this type learns early what kind of life they want: quiet, in company, with something to look after. After 13 the period leaves the Life Palace, changing again at 23 and 33. Whichever palace they reach later, that early self-knowledge is a place they can always go back to.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology

In this type Tian Tong leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.

The bureau is the Wood 3 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 3 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ

Can a Tian Tong Life Palace have the Ji Yue Tong Liang pattern?

Yes, and quite often. The Xingge chart marks Ji Yue Tong Liang when Tian Ji, Tai Yin, Tian Tong and Tian Liang all gather in the San Fang Si Zheng of the Life Palace. With Tian Tong in the Life Palace, three placements always bring the other three stars into those palaces: Tian Tong with Tian Liang in Yin or Shen, Tian Tong with Tai Yin in Zi or Wu, and Tian Tong alone in Chen or Xu. Together they make up about half of Wood 3 Tian Tong. A rhyme in the Complete Book says “Tian Ji, Tai Yin, Tian Tong and Tian Liang make a clerk,” which today reads as suiting professional, structured or advisory roles.

What work suits a Wood 3 Tian Tong?

Work where people or things grow slowly: teaching, counselling, training and development, social work, care work, gardening. They need to see growth happen; environments that chase speed and want numbers doubled every quarter soon drain their enthusiasm.

How common is the Wood 3 · Tian Tong type?

Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 4,387 have Tian Tong leading the Life Palace and the Wood 3 Bureau: about 1.7%, roughly 1 in 60 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.

Why can two people born on the same day be different types?

Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.

What is the Five Elements Bureau?

The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.

How is this different from MBTI?

MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.

Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?

When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.

A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
