What the Wood 3 · Tai Yang type is like
A morning sun with another log on the fire: a Wood 3 Tai Yang warms up early, burns steadily, and rarely needs anyone else to light it.
Tai Yang meets the Wood 3 Bureau
Tai Yang is Fire and the Wood 3 Bureau is Wood. Wood feeds Fire, and the Wood of Wood 3 never runs short, so this Tai Yang has heat to spare and gets going fast. About 51% have Tai Yang alone; among the pairings Tai Yang with Tai Yin is the most common at about 20%, in Chou or Wei; Tai Yang with Ju Men is about 15% and with Tian Liang about 14%. Many have the Life Palace in the daytime branches, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si and Wu, so Prosperous (Wang) dominates at about 41%; Temple (Miao) in Mao is about 10%, Fallen (Xian) about 14%, and Average (Ping) the rarest.
Work and money
About 20% have Tai Yang with Tai Yin in the Life Palace. The Complete Book's verse on Tai Yang says “If it meets Tai Yin, there is a sudden rise and nobility without equal. With its light shining on the Body and Life Palaces, one walks straight through the golden gate.” The next line adds that the light should reach the Body and Life Palaces. Sun and moon share a palace only in Chou and Wei, and one of them is always dim there: in Chou the moon is bright and the sun is not, in Wei the reverse. In Wood 3 the fuel gives the sun its heat and Tai Yin adds fine attention, so they push hard and still catch the details. They suit community building, public affairs and community management, work that means being responsible to many people and remembering each one. With money they like to share, spending where a whole group benefits: courses, events, equipment everyone uses. Giving that spending its own column in the budget keeps it visible.
Love and getting along
In love they are warm and direct, say so when they like someone, and like a life with colour in it: weekend brunches, last-minute short trips. People with Wood feeding Fire tend to be in bright spirits, and partners often find themselves trying more new things. They need someone willing to head out with them in the morning; a partner who loves a lie-in should agree on their separate rhythms early.
When things get stuck
Pile on the fuel too fast and the fire smokes: blazing at full strength first thing, out of steam by afternoon; a plan so packed the heat is spent in the first half. People with Wood feeding Fire never lack fuel; what they lack is control of the flame. Put the most important work in the hours when the heat is best and leave the rest for tomorrow, and the fire burns evenly.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
A Wood 3 Tai Yang's first 10-year period runs from age 3 to 12 (counted the traditional way) and falls on the Life Palace itself. With the first period on their own palace, this type learns early that they are “the warm one,” and gets used early to being called to the front. At 13 the period leaves the Life Palace, moving on at 23 and 33. After each change, who the light falls on shifts: sometimes family, sometimes work, sometimes friends. At the start of each new period, working out who this decade is lighting keeps the heat from going to waste.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Tai Yang leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Wood 3 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 3 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
What is the Ri Zhao Lei Men pattern?
A rhyme in the Complete Book says “The sun shining on the Thunder Gate: wealth, rank and glory,” the Thunder Gate being the Mao palace. The Xingge chart marks Ri Zhao Lei Men (Sun Over the Thunder Gate) when Tai Yang and Tian Liang sit together in the Life Palace in Mao. Volume three adds “The sun shining on the Thunder Gate, in the places Zi, Chen and Mao: a person born by day is rich and noble, and the name spreads far,” requiring a daytime birth; the Xingge chart does not, so that part is yours to check. About 10% of Wood 3 Tai Yang are here, at Temple, like the newly risen sun in the east. The old book promised wealth and rank; today it reads as reputation and position possibly being strengths, and a good fit for looking after people from the front.
What work suits a Wood 3 Tai Yang?
Work that keeps the heat flowing: trainer, public relations, community management, public service, team leadership. This type cares a lot about rhythm. A schedule that charges in the morning and winds down at night suits them best; long stretches of night shifts drain them fast.
How common is the Wood 3 · Tai Yang type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 4,388 have Tai Yang leading the Life Palace and the Wood 3 Bureau: about 1.7%, roughly 1 in 60 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
