What the Earth 5 · Tai Yang type is like

Not showy, but day after day it warms the soil so other people's crops can grow: that is an Earth 5 Tai Yang, sunlight on a field.

Tai Yang meets the Earth 5 Bureau

Tai Yang is Fire and the Earth 5 Bureau is Earth. Fire produces Earth, so the star feeds the bureau, and this Tai Yang habitually gives its warmth away, where it becomes nourishment for the land and backbone for the team. About 49% have Tai Yang alone; the pairings with Tai Yin, Ju Men and Tian Liang are about 17% each. The Chou and Mao branches are the most common: in Chou it is always Tai Yang with Tai Yin, in Mao Tai Yang with Tian Liang. Prosperous (Wang) is about 32%, Unsupported (Bu) and Fallen (Xian) about 20% each, Temple (Miao) in Mao about 14%, and Gain (De) about 10%.

Work and money

The Complete Book says Tai Yang “means the person has a noble air and can follow a civil or a military path.” In Earth 5, being good at both usually looks like holding everything up: running events, fixing processes, handling suppliers, cleaning up after the boss. People with Fire feeding Earth make good pillars for an organisation: schools, local groups, family businesses, brands built over years. Their income is steady, and they like putting money where something can grow: a plot of land, a small shop, an account left to build up slowly. Once a year, check that their own field is getting some sun too.

Love and getting along

They love for the long haul: they remember what your family likes to eat, go to the market with you every weekend, and keep doing it year after year. Romantic speeches are not their thing, but life with them feels solid. With Fire feeding Earth, their warmth seeps slowly into the soil, and a partner may take a while to feel it; do not grade them on the first month.

When things get stuck

A field left too long in the sun cracks: giving and giving with nothing coming back, and one day they suddenly feel empty. This type rarely complains, so people close to them may not notice. Book some time when they look after nobody, even just an afternoon. The sun sets too, and setting is not neglecting its duty.

The rhythm of the 10-year periods

An Earth 5 Tai Yang's periods start at age 5 (counted the traditional way), with 5 to 14 in the Life Palace. The period changes palace at 15, then again at 25 and 35, forward or backward according to the yin-yang of the birth year and the person's sex. For this type, each new period is a new field. They warm the soil first, and in time that field comes to know their warmth.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology

In this type Tai Yang leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.

The bureau is the Earth 5 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 5 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ

What does the Ri Yue Tong Lin mark on the chart mean?

When Tai Yang and Tai Yin share a palace, the Xingge chart marks Ri Yue Tong Lin (Sun and Moon Together), and a rhyme in the Complete Book says “The sun and moon arriving together: office of marquis or earl.” In Earth 5, Tai Yang with Tai Yin is mostly in Chou, where Tai Yang is Unsupported (Bu) and Tai Yin is at Temple (Miao), so the moon is the brighter of the two. When the Xingge chart reads sun and moon in one palace, it looks at the birth time: a daytime birth leans on the sun, a night-time birth on the moon, so for someone in Chou, a night-time birth picks up Tai Yin's light naturally. The old marquis or earl reads today as someone with both qualities who holds their ground in an organisation; whether it goes that far depends on the whole chart.

Does an Earth 5 Tai Yang get along with a Tian Liang person?

Both love looking after people, so they easily become partners in volunteer work or running a team. The difference is that Tai Yang does the hands-on work while Tian Liang offers ideas and reasoning; with clear roles it runs smoothly. Both are used to being the carer, so remember to look after each other too.

How common is the Earth 5 · Tai Yang type?

Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 4,382 have Tai Yang leading the Life Palace and the Earth 5 Bureau: about 1.7%, roughly 1 in 60 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.

Why can two people born on the same day be different types?

Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.

What is the Five Elements Bureau?

The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.

How is this different from MBTI?

MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.

Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?

When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.

A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
