What the Earth 5 · Ju Men type is like
“I've been thinking about how to say this for a while.” Before an Earth 5 Ju Men speaks, several rounds of debate have usually happened inside. They are like a well: the water is underground and will not come up unless you dig, but when you reach it, it is clear and cold and very good.
Ju Men meets the Earth 5 Bureau
Ju Men is Water and the Earth 5 Bureau is Earth. Earth holds back Water, so this bureau keeps Ju Men's water underground and will not let it run off freely. That makes the Earth 5 Ju Men the most contained of the five: their mouth runs a beat behind their mind, and after three rounds of internal debate, one sentence comes out. In charts of this type Ju Men sits in Chen or Si about 21% of the time each, Zi close to 18%, and Wu, Xu and Hai around 14% each. About 66% are Prosperous (Wang), in Zi, Wu, Si or Hai; about 34% are Fallen (Xian), in Chen or Xu. Si and Chen are tied as the most common palaces. For Si, the second volume of the Complete Book says “In Si and Hai it is in a Wang palace, guarding alone”: Ju Men standing by itself in a bright position, which is exactly a well that fills from its own spring. Chen, the Fallen one, keeps its water even deeper.
Work and money
Before they speak, they weigh every word. The second volume says Ju Men “goes forward and back in what he does, is suspicious, learns much but masters little, gets on with few people.” The old wording is heavy. In today's terms it means they hesitate, they question, their interests are broad and slow to settle, and they are not quick to socialise. In Earth 5 the soil holds those traits in: hesitation becomes care in speaking, doubt becomes weighing, and a sentence goes out only after they have thought about how it will be heard. That suits them to places where not one word can be wrong: diplomacy and international affairs, interpreting and translation, subtitling and localisation, mediation. With money they lean conservative and would rather earn a little less than hold something they do not understand.
Love and getting along
In love they warm up slowly and take a long time to say “I like you,” but once said it is almost never taken back. They rarely show care in words. It comes out in actions instead: remembering your umbrella, quietly fixing the thing you broke. A partner needs to learn to read those actions, and they need to practise saying what they feel now and then. If no one draws water from the well, the thirsty still go without.
When things get stuck
A well sealed too long starts seeping out somewhere unseen. Things stay bottled up until they finally come out in one burst, startling everyone and leaving them full of regret. Earth holds back Water, and water held too long finds a crack and forces its way through. It works better to draw water regularly: a set time each week to talk with someone they trust, ideally while walking or cooking, when their hands are busy, letting thoughts out in small, frequent amounts. Doubting everything is draining too, when even good news has to be checked for holes first. It helps to tell the doubts worth chasing from the ones that are just habitual insurance, and let the second kind go.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
Earth 5 waits until age 5 (counted the traditional way) for its first 10-year period, which begins in Ju Men's own Life Palace, and changes palace at 15, 25 and 35. As children they are often called quiet, and the adults only realise much later that they noticed everything. Well water seeps in slowly from underground, and this type's periods have that quality too. Each one quietly fills the well, learning a lot and saying little, and from outside it is hard to see anything change. Only when someone needs it and a bucket comes up does it show how much has been stored.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Ju Men leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Earth 5 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 5 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
Is an Earth 5 Ju Men too closed off to express themselves?
Earth holding back Water does make them more contained, but that does not mean they cannot express themselves. They need time and a sense of safety. With people they trust they are articulate and funny. Rather than forcing quick reactions, it helps to find the outlet that suits them, such as writing or one-to-one conversation. Many Earth 5 Ju Men are more moving on the page than out loud.
The old book says Ju Men “learns much but masters little.” Does an Earth 5 Ju Men never master anything?
It is closer to having interests too broad to settle at first. Ju Men always asks why and wants to understand everything, so it ranges widely. In Earth 5 the soil gathers that curiosity in, and a common pattern is that at some point they suddenly sink into one subject and go deeper and deeper. Learning widely is where they start, not where they stop.
How common is the Earth 5 · Ju Men type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 2,156 have Ju Men leading the Life Palace and the Earth 5 Bureau: about 0.8%, roughly 1 in 122 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
