What the Metal 4 · Ju Men type is like
A Metal 4 Ju Men is a gemstone being polished: their words have been ground and reground until every one has an edge and every one holds up. They argue beautifully, and even the people who disagree have to admit that part was well put.
Ju Men meets the Metal 4 Bureau
The Metal 4 Bureau hands Ju Men's way with words a whetstone. Ju Men is Water and the bureau is Metal; Metal produces Water, so the bureau keeps the star's spring running and the arguments come out quick and precise. In charts of this type Ju Men sits in Chen, Si or Zi about 21% of the time each, Wu and Hai about 14% each, and Xu least of all, around 7%. More than 70% are Prosperous (Wang), the highest share of any bureau, and under 30% are Fallen (Xian), mostly in Chen. The share in Zi or Wu is also the highest of the five, close to 36%. The Complete Book says “Ju Men in Zi or Wu: jade hidden in stone.” The Shi Zhong Yin Yu (Jade Hidden in Stone) pattern describes Ju Men in those palaces: plain, even prickly, on the outside, with jade inside.
Work and money
Their battleground is persuasion: to bring someone round to a position, they will polish every sentence again and again. Another line of the Complete Book says “Ju Men is an evil star, and in a suitable enclosure it is especially fine.” The ancients called it an evil star because it rules words and disputes and easily draws quarrels; a suitable enclosure is a position where the star is at home. With more than 70% of Metal 4 Ju Men at Prosperous, this type mostly looks exactly like a star in its enclosure, while the remaining 29% in Chen or Xu tend to work through writing, organising and preparation behind the scenes. As long as the edge is aimed at the issue and not the person, they are often the most dependable voice on the team. With money they calculate carefully and write themselves a for-and-against before any big purchase, so impulse buys are rare.
Love and getting along
In love they speak plainly. Love is love and a complaint is a complaint, with no detours. Their love often arrives in the form of picking holes: they will polish a partner's CV until midnight, and before the partner goes on stage they play the opposition and fire every hard question first. The person they love sometimes only feels picked on. Saying out loud “I pick at it because I want you to be seen” is what lets the jade show. The right partner can argue with them and laugh with them too.
When things get stuck
Use a whetstone long enough and everything starts to look like it needs an edge: every question argued to the end, even which restaurant needs three supporting points. Too much edge cuts the people around them and wears them out as well. Practise saying “sure, either is fine” about things that do not matter, and save the energy for issues that do. The reverse problem is polishing so long nothing ships, a draft on its tenth revision and still not handed in. Jade kept in the stone too long is jade no one sees.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
Metal 4 starts its first period at age 4 (counted the traditional way) in the Life Palace where Ju Men sits, and changes at 14, 24 and 34. For this type, the thing to watch around a change is that the opponents change. The people they were used to arguing with, and the rules of the argument, may not carry over into the next period, and lines that used to work suddenly find no takers. In the first year or two after a change, listening more and arguing less, and learning the language of the new arena before drawing the blade, helps. It is the same blade; only the angle of sharpening has to change.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Ju Men leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Metal 4 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 4 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
Is a Metal 4 Ju Men the Shi Zhong Yin Yu (Jade Hidden in Stone) pattern?
It depends on the palace. On a Xingge chart the pattern means Ju Men alone in the Life Palace in Zi or Wu. About 36% of this type sit there, the highest share of the five bureaus; those in Chen, Si, Hai or Xu do not count. If Ju Men itself turns Hua Ji (for those born in a Ding year), the chart does not mark the pattern. If Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing or a Hua Ji reaches the San Fang Si Zheng, the chart still marks it, but with the note for the broken version.
What work suits a Metal 4 Ju Men?
Roles that need both argument and polish: negotiating contract terms, policy advocacy, sitting on judging and review panels, coaching debate or presentations, drafting formal statements and position papers. The key is a stage where the target is the issue, not the person, so the sharpness has somewhere useful to go. A place that just wants them to keep quiet and comply will leave them bottled up.
How common is the Metal 4 · Ju Men type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 2,074 have Ju Men leading the Life Palace and the Metal 4 Bureau: about 0.8%, roughly 1 in 127 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
