What the Metal 4 · Zi Wei type is like
A mine looks calm from outside while, within, rock is always being smelted into metal. That is a Metal 4 Zi Wei: they have a real feel for things that get made, and halfway through a conversation about ideals they will ask, quite naturally, “So what's the output?”
Zi Wei meets the Metal 4 Bureau
This Zi Wei habitually sends its strength outward. Zi Wei is Earth and the Metal 4 Bureau is Metal; Earth produces Metal, so the star feeds the bureau, and the effort ends up as numbers, work and systems people can see. In Metal 4, Zi Wei is at Temple (Miao) about 31% of the time, from Zi Wei alone in Wu and Zi Wei with Po Jun in Chou or Wei; Prosperous (Wang) accounts for about 49% and Gain (De) for about 17%. Among the pairings, Zi Wei with Qi Sha is the most common at about 19%, mostly in the Si branch; Zi Wei with Tan Lang is the least, at about 14%. Only a small number have the Life Palace in Zi, where the star is Average (Ping).
Work and money
The weight of Zi Wei with Qi Sha is what defines this type. The Complete Book says Zi Wei can “subdue Qi Sha into power”: in the emperor star's hands, Qi Sha's drive becomes the power to execute. In Metal 4 that power has an outlet. Earth feeds Metal, and their decisions turn into products, deliveries and figures. They suit roles where someone has to decide and own the result: sales lead, engineering head, founder. Earth feeding Metal has a cost, though. They give a lot, and are often the last to leave. With money they believe “if you build it, it comes,” so income is tightly tied to output; a safety fund that has nothing to do with performance is worth setting aside.
Love and getting along
They show love by doing: fixing what broke at home, writing their partner's plans into their own calendar. Sweet talk is not their strength, and their gifts are often solutions: mention the chair is uncomfortable, and a new one arrives the following week. If what a partner wants is company, say so plainly. The mine is happy to dig for you; it just needs to know where.
When things get stuck
Dig a mine too hard and the mountain empties. When the output stops, their sense of worth stops with it; or they decide too fast, Qi Sha's push plus the emperor's pride making it hard to turn back from a wrong call. Separate “what I did” from “who I am,” and keep one block a week where nothing has to be produced. Before any big decision, run it past one person who is willing to argue.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
For a Metal 4 Zi Wei the first 10-year period runs from age 4 to 13 (counted the traditional way) and sits on the Life Palace; after that the periods change at 14, 24 and 34. For someone used to proving themselves through results, the time around a change of period often brings a particular worry: the last report card no longer seems to count, because the setting has changed and so has the measure. There is no rush to deliver something new. Spend a few months working out what the new period is asking for; find the seam first, then start digging.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Zi Wei leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Metal 4 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 4 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
Is Zi Wei with Qi Sha in the Life Palace a fierce combination?
Not necessarily. The Complete Book says Zi Wei can “subdue Qi Sha into power,” meaning Qi Sha's hardness and push are taken in by the emperor star and turned into credibility. People usually experience this type as strict and decisive rather than fierce. Under pressure their sentences tend to get short and sound like orders; one extra sentence of reasoning, and the team usually keeps up.
Is a Metal 4 Zi Wei suited to starting a business?
Yes, especially a business that turns an idea into a real product or service. Their strengths are decision and delivery; the hard part is handing anything off. Early on, find a partner who watches the money and is willing to brake, so all that Earth-feeds-Metal energy goes where it counts.
How common is the Metal 4 · Zi Wei type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 4,379 have Zi Wei leading the Life Palace and the Metal 4 Bureau: about 1.7%, roughly 1 in 60 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
