What the Metal 4 · Tai Yin type is like
Moonlight on silverware is cool and bright, with a quiet kind of distinction. A Metal 4 Tai Yin is nourished by their surroundings, and beneath the sensitivity lies an understated exactness of taste.
Tai Yin meets the Metal 4 Bureau
Metal produces Water, so the bureau feeds the star: the Metal of Metal 4 keeps supplying Tai Yin's Water, and this Tai Yin often has something to stand on, lacking neither resources nor taste. All are Tai Yin alone. Hai is the most common branch, over 25%, and Hai is Tai Yin's Temple (Miao) position; Mao and Xu are about 20% each. For brightness, Fallen (Xian) is 40%, Prosperous (Wang) 33% and Temple nearly 30%, a relatively high share of Temple among the five bureaus.
Work and money
The Complete Book says of Tai Yin: “With the Life Palace seated in a palace of silver light and all the lucky stars gathered, it is judged as enjoying blessings.” In Metal 4, silver light is almost literal: Metal feeds Water, and moonlight on metal has a quiet sheen. This Tai Yin cares about texture and suits work that calls for an eye and for taste: jewellery, luxury goods, design, collecting, financial planning, property. With money they know how to let it grow quietly, preferring things that hold value and that they understand; they do not spend much, but they spend where it counts.
Love and getting along
In love they are gentle and measured, and like to make shared life a little refined: good sheets, a clean table, exactly the right flowers. With Metal feeding Water, they are used to being looked after and know how to return it. Partners often find their quality of life improves; the one thing is that they rarely state their needs outright, so watch for small hints.
When things get stuck
Silver left too long tarnishes: so attentive to detail and perfection that daily life grows tense and a small flaw bothers them. The other snag is depending on what the surroundings supply, and panicking when it stops. Now and then let a day go imperfectly. Polish the silver, and the shine comes back.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
A Metal 4 Tai Yin's first decade, from age 4 (counted the traditional way), falls on the Life Palace; the periods then change at 14, 24 and 34. Around each handover this type often rearranges their space: moving house, changing a room around, clearing out old things. For Tai Yin, outer tidying is inner preparation; once the space is in order, the new period has room to move in.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Tai Yin leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Metal 4 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 4 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
What is Yue Lang Tian Men? Do you have to be born at night?
On the Xingge chart, Tai Yin alone in the Life Palace in Hai is marked Yue Lang Tian Men (Moon Bright at Heaven's Gate); if a malefic star shares the palace, the reading notes that the benefits are reduced. A rhyme in the Complete Book says “The moon bright at the Heaven Gate: promotion in rank and a marquisate.” A note in volume three adds “a person born in a Zi year at a night hour fits the pattern,” conditions on birth year and night-time birth; that is the old reading, and the Xingge chart does not look at birth time, so it is yours to check. The Heaven Gate here refers to the Life Palace being in the Hai branch, which is a separate matter from whether you were born by day or by night. Over 25% of Metal 4 Tai Yin are in this position.
Does a Metal 4 Tai Yin get along with a Wu Qu person?
The two stars have a bond in the old books, and Wu Qu, a Metal star, is also the element that produces Tai Yin's Water. In real life Wu Qu pushes and earns while Tai Yin notices and keeps, a good complement for managing money or a home together. The friction is pace: Wu Qu wants speed, Tai Yin wants to think it through. Give Tai Yin a night on important decisions and talk the next day.
How common is the Metal 4 · Tai Yin type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 2,222 have Tai Yin leading the Life Palace and the Metal 4 Bureau: about 0.8%, roughly 1 in 118 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
