What the Earth 5 · Tai Yin type is like

Water in a well, walled in by earth, stays clear all year round. An Earth 5 Tai Yin is protected by the frame of their surroundings, and the finely tuned mind gains both a boundary and depth.

Tai Yin meets the Earth 5 Bureau

Here the bureau works on the star: the Earth of Earth 5 surrounds Tai Yin's Water the way a well's walls surround its water, limiting it and protecting it. All are Tai Yin alone. Hai is the most common branch, over 25%, with Mao at about 20% and Xu a little under. Fallen (Xian) is about 40%, Prosperous (Wang) about 30% and Temple (Miao), in Hai, close to 30%. You, Xu and Hai together come to nearly 60%, and those charts carry the Ri Yue Bing Ming mark.

Work and money

A rhyme in the Complete Book says “Tai Yin means a lifetime of happiness.” The old writers saw Tai Yin's blessings as quiet and long-running; in Earth 5 that happiness often comes from a stable rhythm of life: regular hours, familiar shops, a well-kept home. With Earth containing Water, they are at ease inside a framework, and suit work with clear procedures that calls for care: accounting, records management, research assistance, healthcare administration, libraries. With money they hold on well and like regular saving and accounts they can see. The well is not large, but it rarely runs dry.

Love and getting along

In love they are steady and faithful, and like a regular rhythm together: dinner on the same night each week, the same holiday spot each year. People with Earth containing Water need security, and a partner's commitment and consistency matter a great deal. If plans keep changing at short notice, they will say it is fine and feel uneasy inside; a day's warning lets them prepare properly.

When things get stuck

Build the well walls too high and the water stops moving: so reliant on familiar order that any change brings anxiety, and life grows safe but narrower. The usual snag is not daring to leave the comfort zone. Give themselves one small new thing, a road not taken before, a dish not tried before, so the well water gets refreshed.

The rhythm of the 10-year periods

An Earth 5 Tai Yin's periods only set out at age 5 (counted the traditional way), with the first decade on the Life Palace, then a new palace every ten years, at 15, 25 and 35. A start that is not early suits a star that needs security: a few more years to dig their own well soundly. In each new palace they usually watch and get familiar first, and only once they are sure do they share their sensitivity freely.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology

In this type Tai Yin leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.

The bureau is the Earth 5 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 5 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ

I was born during the day. Does that make my Tai Yin weaker?

The Xingge chart reads Tai Yin's brightness from the branch of the Life Palace, not from the birth time. When volume three discusses the sun and moon being turned away, its note says “if the sun and moon share a palace, look at the person's birth hour: born by day favours Tai Yang, born at night suits Tai Yin”; that reading applies when the two share a palace. For this type, with Tai Yin alone in the Life Palace, the chart does not consider birth time. Nearly 60% of Earth 5 Tai Yin sit in the night-time branches You, Xu and Hai, at Prosperous (Wang) or Temple (Miao), regardless of whether they were born by day or by night.

What work suits an Earth 5 Tai Yin?

Work with clear procedures that calls for care and patience: accounting, records and data management, research assistance, administration in healthcare or schools, libraries, quality control. They make the most of their sensitivity in a stable environment; places where things change fast and the rules keep shifting wear down their sense of security.

How common is the Earth 5 · Tai Yin type?

Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 2,149 have Tai Yin leading the Life Palace and the Earth 5 Bureau: about 0.8%, roughly 1 in 122 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.

Why can two people born on the same day be different types?

Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.

What is the Five Elements Bureau?

The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.

How is this different from MBTI?

MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.

Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?

When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.

A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
