What the Earth 5 · Tian Ji type is like
Some cleverness comes in flashes; an Earth 5 Tian Ji's comes from researching a thing to the bottom. Picture a root pushing into hard ground, quiet on the surface and always boring deeper below.
Tian Ji meets the Earth 5 Bureau
Wood breaks Earth, and here it is the star doing the breaking: Tian Ji's Wood has to push to get into the Earth of this bureau, but once in, it holds fast. About 49% have Tian Ji alone, and the three pairings, with Tai Yin, Ju Men and Tian Liang, split the rest evenly at about 17% each, the most even of any bureau. Brightness is just as level, each of the six at about 17%, with Temple (Miao) slightly lower at around 15%, from Wu and Zi. The Mao and Si branches are the most frequent.
Work and money
The Complete Book says Tian Ji “can see the fish in a deep pool, and does things with method.” In Earth 5 the weight falls on the word deep: where the soil is thick, they have to look further down. Others stop at the surface; they will spend hours in material others find dull and dig out the key. Research, technical work, audit and any field that rewards years of depth suit them. Wood breaking Earth also means they have to go after things; the surroundings will not deliver opportunities to the door. The sooner they pick a plot of ground, the sooner the roots take. With money they act only after research, which suits long-term holdings they understand, not chasing tips.
Love and getting along
In love they warm slowly, watch for a long time before deciding, and are devoted once they do. What they remember is not necessarily the anniversary but some small thing you said in passing, which they then quietly make happen. A root that bores down also wants to turn over the soil around it: they have an urge to improve whatever is nearby, including, sometimes, a partner's habits. Asking “do you want help with that?” first keeps kindness from turning into interference.
When things get stuck
Now and then a root hits a stone: long research, no breakthrough, and too much invested to let go. There is no need to bore harder; go around. Try another angle, ask a complete outsider, or put the problem down for a week and come back. The other snag is isolation. Dig alone too deep and outside voices stop reaching you; regular progress chats with someone keep the root from ending up in a dead end.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
For an Earth 5 Tian Ji the 10-year periods start at age 5 (counted the traditional way), and the first one, 5 to 14, is the Life Palace. The periods start two or three years later than in Water 2 or Wood 3, and this Tian Ji, too, likes to watch before acting. At 15 the period changes palace, then takes another step at 25 and at 35. Like a root, the periods grow in one direction: forward for men born in a yang-stem year and women born in a yin-stem year, backward for the rest. Whichever palace they reach, Tian Ji brings the same habit: understand this patch of soil thoroughly, then go one layer down.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Tian Ji leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Earth 5 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 5 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
Is an Earth 5 Tian Ji somehow less of a Tian Ji?
It is a common misreading. The usual picture of Tian Ji is quick and talkative, while an Earth 5 Tian Ji is quiet and unhurried. The thinking is just as busy; it simply points downward. Wood breaking Earth means the energy goes into boring deep rather than spreading in every direction. Outsiders see silence; inside is a root that keeps on growing.
Does an Earth 5 Tian Ji get along with a Tian Fu person?
There is a good chance. Tian Fu is steady and protective, Tian Ji deep and inventive; one guards the base while the other scouts the way. Tian Fu leans cautious while Tian Ji wants to improve things, and when they disagree, laying the research out on the table usually settles it faster than arguing.
How common is the Earth 5 · Tian Ji type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 4,381 have Tian Ji leading the Life Palace and the Earth 5 Bureau: about 1.7%, roughly 1 in 60 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
