What the Water 2 · Tian Ji type is like
A Water 2 Tian Ji is a vine fed by steady rain: information, conversations and other people's worries keep flowing in, and new ideas keep growing out. Their mind is rarely idle, because this bureau never lets it run dry.
Tian Ji meets the Water 2 Bureau
Tian Ji is Wood and the Water 2 Bureau is Water. Water nourishes Wood, so the bureau feeds the star, and this Tian Ji is an unusually good absorber: reads a lot, listens a lot, asks a lot. About 51% of this type have Tian Ji alone in the Life Palace, and another 20% have Tian Ji with Tai Yin, in Yin or Shen, which in this bureau is more common than Tian Ji with Ju Men or with Tian Liang. The Chou and Yin branches are the most frequent. Brightness covers all six levels: Fallen (Xian) in Chou or Wei is about 20%, Temple (Miao) in Zi or Wu about 17%, and the rest is Gain (De), Prosperous (Wang), Profit (Li) and Average (Ping).
Work and money
When Tian Ji and Tai Yin share the Life Palace, Tian Tong and Tian Liang always fall in its trines, so all four stars gather and the Xingge chart marks the Ji Yue Tong Liang pattern. One line of the Complete Book reads “Tian Ji, Tai Yin, Tian Tong and Tian Liang make a clerk.” The clerks of old were the people who actually got the office's work done. In Water 2 that becomes the role that takes in the flow, sorts it, and puts it in the right hands: planning, research, legal, data. With money they prefer a steady income plus a little investing they have researched themselves. Water feeding Wood means a constant stream of tips, so one rule helps: if you still want it after three days, buy it.
Love and getting along
Their care is concrete. They remember the book you mentioned, send you the article you might need, and are working on a solution before you finish the sentence. A Water 2 Tian Ji also reads moods closely; one change in tone and they notice, then start working out why. That sensitivity is a gift, and it also has them replaying the day's conversations at bedtime; a partner who now and then volunteers “nothing's wrong today” lets them close their eyes in peace.
When things get stuck
What a vine fears is rain that never stops: more information than they can take in, more options the longer they look, no choice in the end, and so much foliage the main stem disappears. What helps is pruning. Cancel half the subscriptions and cut the to-do list to three items. When the mind will not switch off at night, writing the open tabs down on paper counts as saving them.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
With Tian Ji in the Life Palace, the first 10-year period begins at age 2 (counted the traditional way) and the Life Palace governs everything up to 11. The old books read Tian Ji as a star of change, and a decade it governs as a decade of movement. At 12 the period leaves the Life Palace, moving on again at 22 and 32. An old verse says “When the two luck periods reach this star, things are sure to change,” the two being the 10-year and the yearly period, and the old writers meant it as a reminder that Tian Ji's years tend to bring movement. It is a way of reading, not a forecast. For this type change is the normal state, and learning to find a path through it is more realistic than avoiding it.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Tian Ji leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Water 2 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 2 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
How many Water 2 Tian Ji have the Ji Yue Tong Liang pattern?
About half. The Xingge chart only checks whether Tian Ji, Tai Yin, Tian Tong and Tian Liang all gather in the San Fang Si Zheng of the Life Palace, wherever the Life Palace is. Tian Ji with Tai Yin in Yin or Shen, Tian Ji alone in Zi or Wu, and Tian Ji with Tian Liang in Chen or Xu all bring the other stars into those palaces, so all are marked: about 51% of Water 2 Tian Ji. The reading in volume three is stricter. Its note says to judge this “only with the Life Palace in Yin or Shen,” and goes on to weigh lucky and malefic stars: with neither, an ordinary person; with malefic stars, Di Kong, Di Jie or Hua Ji, a lower grade. The chart's mark is the starting point; the volume three conditions are for you to check against the stars in your own Life Palace.
What work suits a Water 2 Tian Ji?
Work that means taking in and organising a lot of information: research, planning, editing, data analysis, consulting. The key is that someone actually uses the analysis. Research nobody reads drains their motivation fast.
How common is the Water 2 · Tian Ji type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 4,382 have Tian Ji leading the Life Palace and the Water 2 Bureau: about 1.7%, roughly 1 in 60 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
