What the Water 2 · Wu Qu type is like

Cold metal gathers drops of water on its surface, and a Water 2 Wu Qu works the same way: hard on the outside, while what passes through their hands keeps flowing outward. Money, resources and opportunities all get channelled to where they are needed.

Wu Qu meets the Water 2 Bureau

Metal produces Water, so here the star feeds the bureau. Wu Qu, a Metal star, in the Water 2 Bureau tends to turn its strength into things that move: cash flow, logistics, connecting people with each other. The most common forms of this type are Wu Qu alone and Wu Qu with Po Jun, about 20% each: alone in Chen or Xu at Temple (Miao), with Po Jun in Si or Hai at Average (Ping). Next come Wu Qu with Qi Sha at about 17% and with Tian Fu at about 15%, then with Tan Lang and with Tian Xiang at about 14% each. The Xu and Hai branches are the most frequent, about 27% together; overall Temple is about 34%, Average about 20%, and Profit (Li), Prosperous (Wang) and Gain (De) around 15% each.

Work and money

The Complete Book says that Wu Qu “galloping together with Lu and Ma, one makes a fortune in a distant region.” In a bureau where Metal produces Water the line gains a layer: cold metal condenses water, and wealth is generated by movement. When Lu Cun and Tian Ma arrive, the channels connect, and their money grows through turnover and exchange, by carrying things from where they are plentiful to where they are scarce: trade, logistics, treasury work, brokering. To them money is meant to move, and money sitting still makes them uneasy. Holdings with a steady cash flow, such as rent or dividends, suit them better than a single big bet. Flowing too fast is the other side: put a tenth of every payment into an account that stays put, so the water has a pool.

Love and getting along

In love what they give is practical: they find you the cheaper flight, they read your insurance policy all the way through. With Metal feeding Water, their care is sent outward and they rarely look back once it is sent. A partner who wants to be asked “how was your day?” can simply say so; they are used to getting things done first, and the asking tends to come later.

When things get stuck

Open the tap too wide and the pool runs dry: too many favours, loans and money fronted for others, until their own cash flow seizes up. Those with Wu Qu and Po Jun meet this most often. A monthly cap on how many times they help is what lets them keep helping.

The rhythm of the 10-year periods

For a practical star like Wu Qu, an early start means the moment of handling things for themselves arrives early too. In Water 2 the periods begin at age 2 (counted the traditional way), and the Life Palace governs the first decade. At 12 the period moves out of the Life Palace, changing again at 22 and 32. Learning early where money flows is useful in every period that follows.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology

In this type Wu Qu leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.

The bureau is the Water 2 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 2 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ

With Wu Qu and Po Jun together, does money really “come to hand and turn to nothing”?

The Complete Book says “With Po Jun in the place of wealth, money comes to hand and turns to nothing.” About 20% of Water 2 Wu Qu have Po Jun in the Life Palace, in Si or Hai, at Average (Ping). The old warning is about Po Jun's spending power: money comes in and often goes straight into something new. The modern reading is that wealth moves fast and needs a pool they do not touch. The palace opposite Wu Qu with Po Jun is always Tian Xiang, and its steadiness can be borrowed: get the budgets and contracts, the seals, in order.

Does a Water 2 Wu Qu get along with a Tai Yin person?

Master Xiyi says Wu Qu “with Tai Yin shares power,” so in the old books the two are a pair: Wu Qu earns, Tai Yin saves and keeps the property. In real life one is willing to move money and the other is good at keeping it, which makes them complementary partners for managing money. The difference is pace. Wu Qu wants to decide now, Tai Yin wants to think it through, so agree on how long one will wait for the other.

How common is the Water 2 · Wu Qu type?

Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 4,380 have Wu Qu leading the Life Palace and the Water 2 Bureau: about 1.7%, roughly 1 in 60 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.

Why can two people born on the same day be different types?

Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.

What is the Five Elements Bureau?

The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.

How is this different from MBTI?

MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.

Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?

When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.

A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
