What the Metal 4 · Qi Sha type is like
Hand a Metal 4 Qi Sha a lump of raw iron and in a few days you get back a usable blade. They do not just charge; they hammer what they win into shape.
Qi Sha meets the Metal 4 Bureau
The Complete Book says Qi Sha “belongs to fire and metal,” and that “its majesty is the spirit of metal, its nature cool and clear”: commanding like the gleam of metal, yet cool-tempered inside. Xingge reads the bureau through Qi Sha's Fire, so with the Metal 4 Bureau it is Fire overcoming Metal, the star keeping the bureau in check, like a smith's forge facing a bar of iron. But Qi Sha already carries a metal side of its own, so this type knows metal especially well: where to strike and how hard. They most often land in the Wu or Chen palace, which between them account for over half; Zi and Xu are rare, about 7% each. Two out of three sit at Temple (Miao) brightness and the rest at Prosperous (Wang); Zi, Wu, Yin and Shen together make up about 67%, and a Xingge chart marks those as Qi Sha Chao Dou (Seven Killings Faces the Dipper).
Work and money
Their strength is transformation. A slack department, a clunky process, a mess nobody wants to touch: in their hands it often gets beaten into something that works. Restructuring, turnarounds, quality improvement, fixing factories or systems are all work they relish. Their income tends to track the gap between before and after, so the bigger the turnaround, the bigger the reward. They treat their own money the same way, preferring to redeploy idle resources rather than leave them sitting.
Love and getting along
In love their directness is both loved and a little feared: they see a problem, they say so, and they set about fixing it. A partner values the reliability but does not always want to be fixed. A smith uses force on iron and a different touch on people. Asking first whether help is wanted, then deciding whether to strike, makes things much easier for both.
When things get stuck
Iron hammered too fast cracks. They often reform faster than the people around them can adjust, so the thing gets fixed but the people burn out or leave. Building in time for others to catch up, and explaining why the change is needed and what it will look like, helps every transformation land. And not everyone is iron waiting to be forged: some people and things are meant to keep the shape they have.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
For Qi Sha the ten-year periods arrive like batches of iron delivered to the forge, and for Metal 4 the deliveries come at age 4 (counted the traditional way), then 14, 24 and 34. The most common trouble around a change is that the last batch is not finished when the next is already in the fire: old projects never wrapped up while a new front opens. In the year or two before a change, finishing and handing over what is on the anvil before lighting the next fire makes the following decade go far more smoothly.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Qi Sha leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Metal 4 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 4 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
The Complete Book says Qi Sha “belongs to fire and metal.” So is Metal 4 a clash or a match for it?
Xingge reads the bureau through Qi Sha's Fire, so Metal 4 is Fire overcoming Metal, with the star keeping the bureau in check. Still, the Complete Book does list metal too, and says “its majesty is the spirit of metal,” so this type's relationship with Metal is more layered than in other bureaus: forging metal on one side, carrying metal's edge on the other. In practice it reads as someone who both transforms things and has plenty of sharp corners.
What work suits a Metal 4 Qi Sha?
Work that takes things from messy to orderly, from rough to refined: corporate restructuring and transformation, operational improvement projects, quality management, software refactoring, reviving old brands. The key is a stage where the before and after are visibly different. A role where everything is already polished and only needs maintaining will leave their hands itching.
How common is the Metal 4 · Qi Sha type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 2,228 have Qi Sha leading the Life Palace and the Metal 4 Bureau: about 0.8%, roughly 1 in 118 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
