What the Fire 6 · Tian Xiang type is like
The livelier the event, the calmer a Fire 6 Tian Xiang becomes: at weddings, year-end parties and product launches, the quietest voice backstage, headset on, is often theirs. The fire on stage belongs to someone else. Keeping it burning at just the right height is their job.
Tian Xiang meets the Fire 6 Bureau
Of the five bureaus, only Fire 6 puts Tian Xiang in the position of the star restraining the bureau: Tian Xiang is Water, and Water puts out Fire. Fire hands them a lively venue, and the water in their hands is not for dousing but for adjusting the temperature. They cool things not by pouring cold water but by arranging the scene: who goes first, who takes over, where it will jam, all seen one step ahead. The Complete Book's Xing Xing Fu says “Tian Xiang is full of vigour,” the kind of presence that holds a room together, and in Fire 6 that vigour shows most when the crowd is biggest. On the chart Tian Xiang sits in Mao, Si or Wei about 20% of the time each, and Hai, You or Chou about 13% each. More than half, 53%, are at Gain (De) brightness, with Fallen (Xian) at 33% and Temple (Miao) at just 13%. The three opposite-palace combinations, Zi Wei with Po Jun, Wu Qu with Po Jun and Lian Zhen with Po Jun, each take 33%.
Work and money
They suit work that is lively but needs order: event coordination, exhibitions, stage management, hotel and restaurant operations, on-site management where crowds flow through, such as hospitals or airports. The busier and more hands-on it is, the better they do, because while others chase the fire, they keep the whole picture. Income often follows the busy season, high when it is busy and lower when it is quiet, so putting some aside for the slow months is a very useful habit for this type.
Love and getting along
In love they are often drawn to warm, spirited people. One moves and one stays still, and the two complement each other well: the partner brings the ideas and surprises, they make sure the plan actually happens. They rarely admit to being tired and only relax once everyone else is settled. A partner can learn to take over a little: you book the restaurant tonight, and let them be the one looked after for once.
When things get stuck
Press Water down hard on Fire and a cloud of steam goes up. At busy events they soak up a great deal of emotion and pressure, calm on top and simmering underneath. Keeping some quiet time after the crowd leaves, a walk, a bath, a meal alone, lets the steam drift off. It is also worth making sure their calm does not become a lid on everyone else's excitement. When the team is buzzing, share the buzz first, then point out what needs watching.
The rhythm of the 10-year periods
The second volume says “The star Tian Xiang dares to govern wealth” and that under it “every move and plan goes as wished”: the ancients felt that a period passing through Tian Xiang lets things go the way you intend. The very next verse adds a condition, though: “The star Tian Xiang comes in several kinds: in the San Fang it dislikes malefic stars entangling it.” A Tian Xiang period with Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Di Kong or Di Jie wrapped around its San Fang cannot be read the same way. For this type the first period is the Life Palace where Tian Xiang sits, starting at age 6 (counted the traditional way), later than in any other bureau, and how smoothly it runs depends on the San Fang Si Zheng. Changes follow at 16, 26 and 36.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology
In this type Tian Xiang leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.
The bureau is the Fire 6 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 6 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ
Fire 6 Tian Xiang and Fire 6 Ju Men are both Water restraining Fire. What is the difference?
Both are the star restraining the bureau, and both stay calm in lively settings, but by different means. Ju Men cools with words: pointing out the problem, puncturing the hype. Tian Xiang cools with arrangements: getting the running order right and people in the right places, so the heat never gets out of hand. One is the judge with the sharp remarks, the other the stage manager backstage.
Which types does a Fire 6 Tian Xiang get along with?
The other person brings the fire and Tian Xiang keeps it at the right height, so quick movers full of ideas, such as people with Tan Lang or Tai Yang in the Life Palace, often make good partners. The imbalance most likely in that pairing is the enthusiast always charging ahead while Tian Xiang always tidies up behind. Taking turns at being the one who tidies up is what makes it last.
How common is the Fire 6 · Tian Xiang type?
Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 2,227 have Tian Xiang leading the Life Palace and the Fire 6 Bureau: about 0.8%, roughly 1 in 118 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.
Why can two people born on the same day be different types?
Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.
What is the Five Elements Bureau?
The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.
How is this different from MBTI?
MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.
Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.
A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
