What the Fire 6 · Tian Liang type is like

On the night the cold snap arrives, everyone ends up at a Fire 6 Tian Liang's place. They are like a stove burning warm: no noise, no grabbing for attention, but as long as the stove is lit, people gather round.

Tian Liang meets the Fire 6 Bureau

Fire produces Earth, so here the bureau feeds the star: Tian Liang is Earth, the Fire 6 Bureau is Fire, and the bureau's fire keeps warming Tian Liang. Earth that has been through fire turns warm and solid, so a Fire 6 Tian Liang has less of the elder's stiffness and more of the feel of home. On the chart Tian Liang sits in Si, Wei or Wu about 20% of the time each, and Hai, Chou or Zi about 13% each; Temple (Miao), Prosperous (Wang) and Fallen (Xian) each take about 33%. Zi and Wu, Chou and Wei, Si and Hai each account for 33%, so Tai Yang, Tian Ji and Tian Tong each take an equal share of the opposite palace. For the 33% in Zi or Wu, the San Fang Si Zheng always reaches Tian Ji, Tai Yin and Tian Tong, and a Xingge chart marks Ji Yue Tong Liang.

Work and money

The Complete Book describes Tian Liang as “open and upright in nature,” and in Fire 6 it shows especially clearly: they say what they think, aim at the issue rather than the person, flare and cool quickly, and hold no grudges once it is said. On a team they are often the reason people stay: newcomers feel looked after, veterans feel respected. Their money tends to be tied to goodwill: regulars, word of mouth, new friends brought by old ones. Keep the people, and the money stays steady too.

Love and getting along

In love they are warm. They remember the partner's family birthdays and like the house full of friends for dinner at weekends. Being loved by them feels like being caught by a whole household. The thing to watch is that the more people gather round the stove, the less time there is for two. Keeping some evenings just for the pair of them stops the partner feeling like one more guest.

When things get stuck

With the fire too high, the pot boils dry. They look after so many people that their own rest keeps getting pushed back, until they notice how tired they are. Another snag comes from that same openness: they say it too straight, before the other person is ready to hear it. Splitting the straight talk in two helps: say “I have some thoughts, let's talk later” in the moment, then finish once the other person has had time to settle. The same frankness lands much more gently.

The rhythm of the 10-year periods

Fire 6 starts its first period at age 6 (counted the traditional way), the latest of the five bureaus, in the Life Palace, and changes at 16, 26 and 36. The Complete Book says that for Tian Liang, being “clashed by Tai Sui, it becomes a blessing; with Bai Hu arriving, there is no calamity”: the ancients believed this star could defuse a collision. Starting late puts this type's Life Palace decade at a somewhat older age, so the knack of easing conflict is usually practised again and again with classmates and family, and they remember it clearly. Each later change is like the stove moving to a new kitchen. The fire is the same fire.

Where it comes from in Purple Star Astrology

In this type Tian Liang leads the Life Palace. The Life Palace is the one of twelve that says who you are, and its main star sets your base color; when two main stars share it, the first one counts.

The bureau is the Fire 6 Bureau. The Five Elements Bureau comes from the Nayin of your Life Palace stem and branch; it places the Zi Wei star on the chart and sets the age your first 10-year period starts, which is 6 for this bureau. No bureau is better than another; Xingge reads it as a flavour of the same persona.

FAQ

Can a Fire 6 Tian Liang have the Ji Yue Tong Liang pattern?

When Tian Liang sits alone in the Life Palace in Zi or Wu, the San Fang Si Zheng always reaches Tian Ji, Tai Yin and Tian Tong, so a Xingge chart marks Ji Yue Tong Liang. About 33% of this type are like that; those in Chou, Wei, Si or Hai are not. The chart looks only at whether the four stars gather, so Zi and Wu are always marked; the note in the third volume, however, limits the line to a Life Palace in Yin or Shen and says it does not apply when lucky stars are added, a stricter classical reading worth checking yourself. The Gu Sui Fu in the first volume says the four stars together “make a clerk.” The ancients meant someone who works within the system. Today it reads as suiting professional, structured or advisory roles that build up steadily, not as being stuck in a junior post.

What work suits a Fire 6 Tian Liang?

Work that brings people together and needs someone keeping an eye on them: running a restaurant or guesthouse, community building, taking over a shared space or an old family shop, serving as secretary of an alumni or trade association, operating an events venue. What they share is a place, and they are the one who keeps it warm.

How common is the Fire 6 · Tian Liang type?

Out of 262,980 charts cast for every day and every two-hour period from 1950–2009, 2,222 have Tian Liang leading the Life Palace and the Fire 6 Bureau: about 0.8%, roughly 1 in 118 people. Every day and hour is counted equally, so this is not the actual birth distribution of a population.

Why can two people born on the same day be different types?

Where your Life Palace falls depends on your birth month and birth hour, and your Five Elements Bureau comes from the stem and branch of that palace. So on the same day, one two-hour period later moves the Life Palace by one, and the main star and bureau can both change. The twelve hours of a single day usually produce several different types.

What is the Five Elements Bureau?

The Five Elements Bureau is the Nayin element of your Life Palace stem and branch: Water 2, Wood 3, Metal 4, Earth 5 or Fire 6. The number places the Zi Wei star on the chart and is also the age your first 10-year period begins (2 for Water, 6 for Fire). A bigger number is not better or worse; Xingge reads the element as a flavour of the same persona.

How is this different from MBTI?

MBTI comes from a questionnaire about how you see yourself. An Xingge type comes from your birth date and time, with nothing to answer, and the same birth details always give the same type. They work well side by side: MBTI describes your current habits, the chart describes your underlying nature and the rhythm of your life.

Which type do I get if my Life Palace has two main stars?

When two main stars share the Life Palace, the one listed first (in the order of the Zi Wei and Tian Fu star groups) sets the persona, the same as on your chart page. A Life Palace with no main star is the Empty Palace: the Traveler.

A type looks only at the Life Palace and the bureau: the roughest outline of a chart. People of the same type differ in the Body Palace, the surrounding palaces and the transformations.
