Wu is due south, the time of day when the sun is highest. Tai Yang alone in the Life Palace in Wu is Jin Can Guang Hui (golden radiance): midday sun, gleaming gold. The Tai Wei Fu at the start of the Quan Shu also describes this position and gives it another name, "the sun bright at the zenith." To see whether you have it, draw your chart.

The conditions for Jin Can Guang Hui

The condition is: the Life Palace is in Wu, and its only main star is Tai Yang.

In Wu, Tai Yang always sits alone, at Wang. The combination isn't common: about 1 chart in 180.

What the classics say

The Tai Wei Fu in volume one says:

Tai Yang in Wu is called the sun bright at the zenith: the nobility of holding power alone, and wealth to rival a nation.

"The nobility of holding power alone" is a position where you can stand on your own; "wealth to rival a nation" is as rich as a country. The ancients rated this position as bringing both name and fortune.

The section on patterns of wealth in volume one puts it on its very first list:

Golden radiance: Tai Yang guarding alone, with the Life Palace in Wu.

Note that this is a pattern of *wealth*, about money, not just reputation. Practitioners often say Tai Yang brings "name before money," but in Wu, its highest position, the light is strong enough that money follows too.

Volume three also names some years:

Tai Yang in Wu, for people of Geng, Xin, Ding and Ji years: both wealth and standing.

In Geng years Tai Yang takes Hua Lu and in Xin years Hua Quan, lighting up the Tai Yang in the Life Palace directly; in Ding and Ji years, Lu Cun is in Wu, sitting right with Tai Yang.

How to read it today

The midday sun, read today:

  • A big presence, naturally the center of attention. When you walk into a room, people notice. You suit roles that involve taking the stage, leading the way and speaking for the team.
  • Quick to act, willing to give. Tai Yang's nature is to light others up first, and at its brightest even more so: when you see something needing doing, you want to step in.
  • Chances at both name and fortune. The classics put it among the patterns of wealth, meaning doing things openly and honestly can bring real rewards too.

Stages that suit it include public figures, sales leadership, branding, media, politics and public affairs, and entrepreneurship: work where you need to be seen and to get others moving.

Where Jin Can Guang Hui tends to get stuck

Light that strong can also burn. This is the most common challenge for Jin Can Guang Hui:

  • Too used to being the lead. Used to shining, you sometimes forget to leave others room to shine.
  • Giving too much. Tai Yang keeps giving until it's tired, and only then notices no one is looking after it.
  • Face matters a lot. From the highest position, admitting a mistake or showing weakness is harder than for most.

One suggestion for people with Jin Can Guang Hui: leave a little shade for others. Step back now and then so others on the team are seen, and your own light lasts longer.

What weakens it

  • Tai Yang taking Hua Ji in Jia years. The brightest sun gains a layer of worry, and what you give and what you get back may not match.
  • Qing Yang in Wu. In Bing and Wu years Qing Yang lands in Wu, sharing the palace with Tai Yang, so drive and conflict both grow.
  • Weaker stars opposite and in the trines. In Jin Can Guang Hui, the opposite palace, Zi, holds Tian Liang, and the trines include Ju Men at Xian in Xu. The light is strong, but there are "hidden" corners nearby to handle.

How to check whether you have Jin Can Guang Hui

  1. Draw your chart and see whether your Life Palace is in Wu.
  2. Check whether its only main star is Tai Yang.
  3. Then look at your birth-year stem: Geng, Xin, Ding and Ji are the years the classics name.

Tai Yang with Tian Liang in the Life Palace in Mao is a different pattern, Ri Zhao Lei Men. For Tai Yang's full personality, see its star introduction or the Tai Yang and Tai Yin lesson.
