What is San Qi Jia Hui (Three Wonders Converge)?
Conditions
All three of your birth-year Hua Lu, Hua Quan and Hua Ke fall within the Life Palace's San Fang Si Zheng.
When you draw your chart, Xingge marks the patterns it contains.
Of the Four Transformations, the ancients called Hua Lu, Hua Quan and Hua Ke together "the three wonders": Lu is resources and connections, Quan is control and strength, Ke is reputation and dignity. With all three shining into the Life Palace, it is called San Qi Jia Hui (the three wonders meeting), meaning you have a foundation in all three. To see whether you have it, draw your chart and check whether the stars in the Life Palace's San Fang are marked Lu, Quan and Ke.
The conditions for San Qi Jia Hui
- It looks at the birth-year transformations: the Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji set by your birth-year stem, carried for life.
- Hua Lu, Hua Quan and Hua Ke all fall within the Life Palace's San Fang Si Zheng: among the Life, Travel, Wealth and Career Palaces.
- The three can be in different palaces, or two can share one.
About 1 chart in 20 has San Qi Jia Hui. If only Hua Lu and Hua Quan are there without Hua Ke, Xingge marks Quan Lu Xun Feng instead; when all three are present it counts as San Qi Jia Hui, so the two never appear together.
"San Qi Jia Hui" is a later name; the Quan Shu doesn't use it, but it describes the same thing as "Ke, Quan and Lu embracing."
What the classics say, and how we read it today
The Gu Sui Fu in volume one says:
Ke, Quan and Lu embracing it: a name that shines.
The Supplemented Tai Wei Fu in volume one says:
Ke, Quan and Lu embracing: surely one who plucks the laurel.
"Plucking the laurel" meant passing the imperial exams. Volume three, discussing how charts fit patterns, places it in its grading:
If the chart fits a pattern, at Miao or Wang with auspicious stars gathered, and Ke, Quan and Lu guarding it, it is the very highest kind of chart.
All three say the same: with Lu, Quan and Ke shining in together, reputation, position and gains all come easily.
Today, San Qi Jia Hui commonly looks like this:
- [Hua Lu](/learn/c4-lu) gives resources. Opportunities, popularity and income come more easily.
- Hua Quan gives control. You can call the shots and move things forward.
- Hua Ke gives reputation. What you do is easily seen and recognized, often with helpers.
Having all three means a good starting point: something to use, the strength to use it, and people who notice when you do. As the Hua Quan and Hua Ke lesson explains, Hua Quan is "I want to decide for myself" and Hua Ke is "I want to be seen"; add Lu and you have a complete cycle.
Where San Qi Jia Hui tends to get stuck
First, scattered focus. With resources, opportunities and reputation, there are many choices; you want to take everything on, and end up finishing each only halfway.
Second, too smooth a ride, too little tempering. People with a good start experience less of the struggle of starting from zero, and may react more strongly to their first big setback.
Third, overlooking Hua Ji. Lu, Quan and Ke shining in doesn't mean Hua Ji is absent. Whichever palace your birth-year Hua Ji falls in is still where you put the most of yourself; the Hua Ji lesson covers this in full.
What strengthens it and what weakens it
- Strengthens: the three stars themselves are bright (Miao or Wang), or one of them sits in the Life Palace itself, which is the most direct. Volume three says "at Miao or Wang with auspicious stars gathered, and Ke, Quan and Lu guarding it" makes the highest kind of chart, so brightness is key.
- Weakens: Hua Ji also falls in the Life Palace's San Fang, or the San Fang has Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Di Kong or Di Jie, so gains and ties come together. For Hua Lu clashed by Hua Ji, see also Lu Feng Chong Po.
One more point: which three stars they are depends on your birth-year stem. In Jia years, for example, Lian Zhen takes Hua Lu, Po Jun Hua Quan and Wu Qu Hua Ke; in Geng years, Tai Yang takes Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan and Tai Yin Hua Ke. If you don't know your birth-year transformations, use the birth-year transformations lookup.
How to check whether you have San Qi Jia Hui
- Draw your chart and find the Life, Travel, Wealth and Career Palaces.
- Look at whether any of the stars in those four palaces are marked "Lu," "Quan" or "Ke."
- With all three, you have San Qi Jia Hui; with only Lu and Quan, Quan Lu Xun Feng; with both Lu Cun and a Hua Lu, also see Shuang Lu Jiao Liu.
Common questions
What does San Qi Jia Hui mean?
"The three wonders" are the transformations Hua Lu, Hua Quan and Hua Ke. When your birth year's Lu, Quan and Ke all fall within the Life Palace's San Fang Si Zheng, it is called San Qi Jia Hui. The Quan Shu puts it as "Ke, Quan and Lu embracing it: a name that shines," meaning reputation, position and gains all come easily.
Is San Qi Jia Hui common?
About 1 chart in 20. It is more common than patterns like Jun Chen Qing Hui that need specific main stars and positions, because it only depends on where the birth-year transformations fall.
What is the difference between San Qi Jia Hui and Quan Lu Xun Feng?
Quan Lu Xun Feng is Hua Lu and Hua Quan shining into the Life Palace without Hua Ke; San Qi Jia Hui has all three. The difference is reputation and helpers: with Hua Ke, what you do is more easily seen and recognized.
Does San Qi Jia Hui guarantee success?
San Qi Jia Hui means you have a foundation in resources, control and reputation, but it still depends on the three stars' brightness, whether the San Fang has Hua Ji or challenging stars, and which Decade Luck you are in. A good start isn't the same as a good finish; the common challenge is actually having too many choices and getting distracted.
Other patterns
A pattern is a bonus, not a verdict. On your own chart, the same pattern still depends on brightness, the San Fang Si Zheng and which Decade Luck you are in.
