What is Quan Lu Xun Feng (Power and Wealth Meet)?

Hua Lu is resources; Hua Quan is control. With both shining into the Life Palace, when an opportunity comes you can not only catch it, you can move it forward. The combination is called Quan Lu Xun Feng (Quan and Lu met on the round), the version of San Qi Jia Hui without Hua Ke. To see whether you have it, draw your chart.

The conditions for Quan Lu Xun Feng

• It looks at the birth-year transformations: the Lu and Quan set by your birth-year stem.
• Hua Lu and Hua Quan both fall within the Life Palace's San Fang Si Zheng: among the Life, Travel, Wealth and Career Palaces.
• Hua Ke is not in these four palaces. If Hua Ke is there too, it becomes San Qi Jia Hui.

About 1 chart in 12 has Quan Lu Xun Feng.

The name "Quan Lu Xun Feng" isn't in the Quan Shu; the classics have a very similar entry, "Quan and Lu met at birth," with much stricter conditions.

What the classics say, and how we read it today

The section on noble patterns in volume one says:

Quan and Lu met at birth: the two stars guarding the Life Palace at Miao or Wang; at Xian it does not count.

The classics' version has two conditions: Hua Quan and Hua Lu both sit in the Life Palace, and the stars are at Miao or Wang; at Xian, it doesn't count. Xingge's Quan Lu Xun Feng loosens this to the San Fang Si Zheng and ignores brightness, a much wider set. If your chart is marked Quan Lu Xun Feng, you can take one more step yourself: are both in the Life Palace, and are both at Miao or Wang? If so, it is the classics' "Quan and Lu met at birth."

With Quan and Lu guarding the Wealth and Career Palaces, the ancients said, there is glory from birth. The Wealth Palace shows how money comes, the Career Palace how work gets done, so Quan and Lu there mean both earning and working come with resources and control.

Today, Quan Lu Xun Feng commonly looks like this:

Quan Lu Xun Feng versus San Qi Jia Hui

The difference is one Hua Ke. As the Hua Quan and Hua Ke lesson explains, Hua Ke is "being seen and recognized," and often brings helpers and reputation. Quan Lu Xun Feng has resources and strength and moves things forward, but its results aren't automatically noticed.

So the common reminder for people with Quan Lu Xun Feng is: once you've done it, make sure people know. Actively write up your results and explain them to others, to fill in the Hua Ke part.

Where Quan Lu Xun Feng tends to get stuck

First, being too forceful. Hua Quan's urge to lead plus Hua Lu's smoothness make it easy to want to decide everything yourself, leaving others no room to speak.

Second, taking on too much. Plenty of opportunities and the power to drive them makes it easy to run too many things at once.

Third, forgetting Hua Ji. If your birth-year Hua Ji isn't in the San Fang, it is certainly in another palace, and that palace is still where you put the most of yourself.

What strengthens it and what weakens it

• Strengthens: Hua Quan and Hua Lu both in the Life Palace, or both in the Wealth and Career Palaces, at Miao or Wang, which approaches the classics' "Quan and Lu met at birth." Zuo Fu, You Bi, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, Tian Kui or Tian Yue in the San Fang give you people helping to push.

How to check whether you have Quan Lu Xun Feng

1. Draw your chart and find the Life, Travel, Wealth and Career Palaces.
2. Look at whether any of their stars are marked "Lu" and "Quan."
3. With both but no "Ke," it is Quan Lu Xun Feng; with all three, San Qi Jia Hui.
