Zi Wei Dou Shu chart statistics
On this page
An Empty Palace (no main star) is the most common Life Palace in Zi Wei Dou Shu: 16.5% of 262,980 charts, roughly 1 in 6. Every number on this page comes from casting a chart for every day from January 1, 1950 to December 31, 2009, at every two-hour birth period, and counting.
Key numbers
- Empty Life Palace: 16.5% (about 1 in 6), more than any single main star.
- A chart has zero, two or four Empty Palaces, never any other number: zero in 17.6% of charts, two in 66.1%, four in 16.3%.
- Life Palace on the Sha Po Lang line: exactly 25.0%, one chart in four.
- Ji Yue Tong Liang: 12.5%, about one in eight.
- Jun Chen Qing Hui: 1.85%. Zi Wei and Tian Fu together in the Life Palace: 1.47%. Both are under 1 in 50.
- Life Palace star at Miao or Wang brightness: 53.4%. At Xian or Bu: 13.1%.
- Birth-year Hua Ji in the Life Palace: 8.61%, about 1 in 12.
How we counted
- Range: 1950-01-01 to 2009-12-31, exactly one sixty-year cycle, so every year stem-and-branch appears once.
- Twelve charts a day: one for each two-hour period (Zi, Chou, Yin … Hai). Late Zi counts as the next day, as on the rest of the site. 262,980 charts in all.
- Every day and every hour weighs the same. This is not a population survey. It does not account for more people being born in some years or at some hours. It answers: under the rules of the chart, how common is this combination?
- Gender doesn't matter here. Gender only sets the direction of the ten-year luck periods, not where the stars sit, so each chart was cast once.
- Rules: the same engine as the free chart, with star placement, brightness and the Four Transformations from the Zi Wei Dou Shu Quan Shu. See how Xingge casts a chart. Patterns are detected the same way as on chart readings.
Life Palace star: how common is each persona?
Xingge sorts charts into fifteen personas by the Life Palace main star (fourteen stars plus the Empty Palace). When two main stars share the Life Palace, the first one counts. That is why Zi Wei, Tian Ji, Tai Yang, Wu Qu, Tian Tong and Lian Zhen run about twice as high as the rest: they often bring a second star along.

Why Empty Palaces are so common
Fourteen main stars share twelve palaces, and they often pair up, which leaves other palaces empty. Zi Wei's position decides how many: none when Zi Wei sits in Yin or Shen (with Tian Fu), four when it sits in Si or Hai (with Qi Sha), and two in the other eight positions.
| Empty Palaces in the chart | Share |
|---|---|
| 0 | 17.6% |
| 2 | 66.1% |
| 4 | 16.3% |

Brightness of the Life Palace star
When two main stars share the Life Palace, the brighter one counts.
| Brightness | Share |
|---|---|
| Miao (strongest) | 34.2% |
| Wang (strong) | 19.2% |
| De (fair) | 8.30% |
| Ping (neutral) | 8.76% |
| Bu (weak) | 2.46% |
| Xian (weakest) | 10.7% |
| Empty Palace | 16.5% |
Birth-year Four Transformations
Each birth-year transformation lands on one star, so each one lands in the Life Palace in roughly one chart in twelve, and in the Life Palace's San Fang Si Zheng (Life, Wealth, Career and Travel Palaces) in about one in three.
| Transformation | In the Life Palace | In San Fang Si Zheng |
|---|---|---|
| Hua Lu (Transformation of Wealth) | 8.87% | 33.2% |
| Hua Quan (Transformation of Power) | 8.27% | 33.3% |
| Hua Ke (Transformation of Fame) | 8.35% | 33.6% |
| Hua Ji (Transformation of Obstruction) | 8.61% | 33.1% |
How many charts have each pattern
Life Palace patterns (read from the Life Palace and its San Fang Si Zheng) and combinations inside the Life Palace, detected the same way as in chart readings. A chart can have several patterns at once, so the shares don't add up to 100%.
Fixed shares
These are set directly by the rules, which is why they come out so even. The Body Palace follows the birth hour (born at Zi or Wu, it shares the Life Palace). The Life Master follows the Life Palace branch, the Body Master follows the birth-year branch, and the Five Elements Bureau follows the Life Palace stem and branch.

Common questions
What is the most common Life Palace in Zi Wei Dou Shu?
An Empty Life Palace (no main star), at 16.5%, about one chart in six. Among main stars, Zi Wei, Tian Ji, Tai Yang, Wu Qu, Tian Tong and Lian Zhen each lead about 8.33% of Life Palaces; the other eight are about 4% each.
How many people have a Sha Po Lang chart?
Exactly 25.0% of charts have Qi Sha, Po Jun or Tan Lang in the Life Palace (the other two then always sit in its trines). It is part of the chart's structure, not a rarity.
How rare is Jun Chen Qing Hui?
1.85%, about 1 chart in 54. It is counted when Zi Wei sits in the Life Palace and Zuo Fu and You Bi are both in its San Fang Si Zheng.
Do these shares match the real population?
Not exactly. Here every day and every hour weighs the same, while real births vary by year and by hour. Most combinations follow the day-and-hour cycles, so the difference is usually small.
